Malaysia's probably fortifying their islands so the Chinese cant plant flags everywhere.

If China attacks, were gone. It would take billions of pesos to defend the islands against a chinese attack. Thats why the Philippines should start now in modernization, but not to a point that we'll buy anything available thats at least more "modern" than our current ships, like the recent Hamilton acquisition, which I think is a bad buy. There are other vessels, better and more modern than that 40 year old cutter that can be used as "training" or "transition" ships.

Wag ka nang umsa sa pilipinas, dahil ang mga opisyal nila walang utak at disiplina sa paghawak ng mga perang pambili ng mga bagong kagamitan. Magugunaw na ang mundo, di parin sila makakahwak ng F16! :lollol:

Nah, they wouldn't do anything about it. But then, given our governments history of being china's bitch, people there are probably pissing their pants while trying to find a way to "appease" the chinese.

Air Force to repair Rancudo field
By Jaime Laude (The Philippine Star) Updated March 24, 2011 12:00 AM Comments (8)

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Air Force (PAF) has been given the go-signal by Malacañang to spearhead the repair and rehabilitation of the damaged Rancudo Airfield in Pag-Asa, the biggest island being occupied by Filipino troops in the hotly contested Spratly Islands in the South China Sea.

Camp Aguinaldo insiders said President Aquino has directed various government agencies, including the Department of Energy (DOE), to pool their resources for the initial release of P8 billion in order to bankroll the repairs of dilapidated military infrastructure in the Kalayaan Island Group (KIG).

Among the Spratlys’ six claimant countries – the Philippines, China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Taiwan and Brunei – the Philippines is lagging behind in terms of military fortification in the area, with China and Vietnam conducting aggressive development in their respective occupied islands, reefs and shoals in that part of the South China Sea.

Military sources bared that part of the P8 billion as well as future fund releases for the KIG would go to concreting of the 1,553-meter Rancudo Air Field and the procurement of long range patrol aircraft and patrol vessels.

Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) vessels have been dispatched to the area to provide security to civilian vessels conducting research and seismic studies in the KIG in line with the government’s ongoing oil exploration within the Palawan Sea.

This was after the March 7 Reed Bank incident, where two Chinese gunboats harassed a research vessel commissioned by DOE.

“The security concerns out there in the Spratlys are already alarming,” a source from Camp Aguinaldo said.

He added that no less than President Aquino, in his recent meeting with top defense and military officials, aired his concern over the prevailing state of existing military infrastructure and facilities in the KIG.

Meantime, Lt. Col. Ernesto Okol, Air Force spokesman, confirmed that there are existing development plans for Rancudo Airfield but he could not say when these will be implemented

Military leaves security issue in Spratlys to DFA
By Jaime Laude (The Philippine Star) Updated March 26, 2011 12:00 AM Comments (1) View comments

MANILA, Philippines - The military is keeping quiet over the unfolding security developments in the Spratlys.

Brig. Gen. Jose Mabanta, Armed Forces spokesman, said the matter is now within the domain of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

“It has become the concern of the DFA,” Mabanta said when sought for comment on the P8 billion that Malacañang has earmarked for military infrastructure in the Kalayaan group of islands.

It was learned that President Aquino has ordered the initial release of P8 billion for the immediate repairs of military facilities to include the rehabilitation of the Rancudo Airfield at Pag-Asa island.

This amount is on top of the other funding sources which the national government has allotted for military projects in Kalayaan group.

In a military report, claimant countries, except for the Philippines, have been aggressively and continuously establishing their foothold in their occupied islets, shoals and reefs in that part of South China Sea.

“If we want to gain respect of others, first we must show them that we are respectable,” said a Camp Aguinaldo insider as he underscored an urgent need for the military to reassess its position in the Kalayaan island group.

He pointed out that the “do nothing” policy being enforced by the military in the Spratlys for the past several years has left the country in a very disadvantageous position.

The “do nothing” policy, due mainly to the country’s lack of a credible air and sea fighting force, has been largely viewed by past leaderships as an effective military strategy to defuse the possible breaking out of hostilities in the region among forces of claimant countries.

Except for Brunei, all the claimant countries – the Philippines, China, Taiwan, Vietnam and Malaysia – have deployed forward troops in the region.

A naval officer who formerly commanded one of the two gunboats assigned to patrol the Kalayaan islands had to apply this strategy to avoid confrontation with intruding Chinese gunboats.

“The strategy was very effective,” the naval officer said.

“We never moved against them and they never moved against us. My orders coming from higher headquarters then was to challenge the Chinese gunboats but judgment call dictated that it would be suicide for me and my men if I will do so.” He said his gunboat has the capability to engage the Chinese intruders.

“If push comes to shove, may laban,” he said.

Pero ano ang panama ng barko natin sa mga missile-firing capable na mga Chinese vessels.” (We can fight but we’re no match for the missile-firing capable Chinese vessels).

He had to order his escort vessel to withdraw to a more comfortable distance though ready to pick them up from the sea in the event their vessel is sunk by the Chinese vessels, the naval officer said.

China warns vs oil exploration

China warned yesterday against any oil exploration without its consent in waters it claims in the South China Sea after the Philippines announced plans for possible drilling.

The Department of Energy said Wednesday that UK-based Forum Energy had completed a seismic survey for the Reed Bank, near the disputed Spratly Islands.

The Spratlys are called the Nansha Islands in Chinese and claimed by China.

Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Jiang Yu told reporters China holds indisputable sovereignty over the Nansha Islands and adjacent waters.

“Any activities by countries or companies to explore for oil or gas in the sea waters in China’s jurisdiction without the permission of the Chinese government will constitute a violation of China’s sovereignty and... will be illegal and invalid,” she said.

Jiang did not make any direct reference to the Philippines or Forum Energy, nor did she say the survey area was actually in waters under Chinese jurisdiction.

Chinese embassy officials earlier requested a copy of the Forum Energy announcement.

On Wednesday, Forum Energy said it used the survey data to evaluate the commercial potential of the block and to “help identify the best location for possible appraisal wells to be drilled.”

The Reed Bank lies about 150 kilometers east of the Spratlys, which are claimed in whole or in part by Brunei, Malaysia, Taiwan, Vietnam, the Philippines and China.

The AFP PN should relieve that coward Philippine Navy officer of his duties for being incompetent and dismissed from service! Just let that "Gaylord f_cker" set up his own beauty parlor!!!

"Mapapatakot ka ba diyan sa mga hinayupak na iyan...... Bring it on!"

(Alam kasi nila kulang tayo sa pang depensa kasi,) let's pressure Congress to fast track and approve the last Tranche of the MRV Project and use the $2B USD Credit Facility from S.Korea.

We need to do it fast, we really need to get INTERIM MRFs, and maybe the quickest thing to do are to refit the PN's soon to arrive WHEC 715 with missiles and Sonar,ASW capabilty and deploy (1) S-70 helicopter equipped with machine guns and "Sea Skua" air to surface missiles and order more of these missiles and try to modify and install some on our SF-260s and stationed them in Pag asa Island.

I think somethings going to happen once they start that Oil Exploration in Reed bank so they better be prepared before anything else.....

"Let's act before it's too late!" This is a Wake up call!

Just imagine what more can happen once China's "Varyag" Aircraft Carrier is out.... anytime 2011!!!!

Chinese SU-33s reaping the Philippine Airspace!!! What can we do??? :wow: :headbang: :crawling:

china is too far away from the Spratly's and they are claiming these group of island there's. we all knew that these island had a vast untouched resources yet to be found, it was alarming that china had occupied some island on Phil EEZ , near palawan & in a near future occupied more because of our incapability to protect them. AFP should start to re armed our troops with modern equipments to prevent these treats and to protect our own sovereignty.

but the problem is our government and including the AFP seem not really interested of modernizing the AFP, they have shown no concern at all and we all know that it has been like this for decades. Our government is inutil. All they care about is how to make more money for themselves as shown recently by the pabaon scandal. So when China gets her 1st aircraft carrier then they can seize any islets there that they want there is really nothing we can do even the US will not do anything or go to shooting war with China just for a islet from us. I was a former member of the PA and I saw it first hand the poor state of our logistics and the corruption associated with that. We are the ones who has nothing but to be blamed for. I thought the people power uprisings will change all this but nothing too changed as far as corruption. Just look at the investigation now going on the pabaon scandal, had anyone went to jail yet? as long as we have a government that is inutil or a joke then no country will respect us and will even bully us and get away with it. The PN also need a few submarines to be more effective in external defense because China has hundreds of submarines and they can easily sunk any PN ships patrolling in the disputed Spratley islands. Submarines will be very effective against a strong Navy when it comes to war at sea. Just look at how North Korea sunk that modern frigate of South Korean Navy. No one even knows who did it. The AFP should also deploy and station more troops in unoccupied islets and build some structures there and anti aircraft guns. that way no one can come and claim it like China and Vietnam did. If its not occupied sure anyone can just land there and put their flag and say its now theirs. Again the AFP should have thought about this long time ago. Right now I know we only have troops at one bigger islands. Other claimants like Malaysia and Vietnam and China have already troops and billeting and other logistics in their islands. Because once occupied it will be more difficult to seize without shooting each other. So what did our AFP brass have been doing in the past? corruption instead of fortiying these part of our border. Our government has no vision or is not aggressive when it comes to defense. Even our Sabah claim is now gone. Malaysia now has build a large naval base in Sabah and they too owns some submarines, and with Malaysia alone as a potential adversary, I think we cannot beat them when it comes to a war because they have a better modern armed forces than ours.

I fully agree with you Bro. Hitman!

If you think about it they said the first People Power liberated us from a Dictator???

But really none of them who were even the ones that initiated it, made a difference up to present, all those anti Marcos before who are now elected government officials or have positions in the government now are just relaxing and taking it easy.....

I DON'T THINK THIS WILL HAPPEN UNDER A MARCOS RULE!!!

Sad to say.........

You Bro. as a former Soldier was our AFP better before during Marcos time? or after Marcos? :salute:

I don't exactly know the present state of the AFP now. But during the Marcos regime, I think the AFP was better because they were paid better than the civilian sector and Marcos took care of us however, there were corruption too but, there were some good things Marcos has done in the or for the AFP as far as modernization. He created the SRDP (self reliance defense program) where he tap local manufacturing of some our defense needs, he also started the Santa Barbara project where he had Filipino rocket scientists develop a locally made rockets and missiles like the Bong Bong 1 and II, then he even have the aviation project that was killed after the he was overthrown where in they were developing a locally made chopper. He also initiated the local assembly and production of M16s in Bataan now still in existence. So if marcos was not overthrown, we would probably have a better well equipped AFP and a thriving local defense industry including our own missiles. I don't want to be politically here but I heard that Bong Marcos is eying to run for president in the next election. He maybe the man we need to turn around the country and gain our respect again and have strong well equipped AFP. Bong Marcos seem to be aggressive and have a better vision for the country. He is also highly intelligent and well educated.
