Like one of the things i heard from those given youtube video links, it is being claimed that china and taiwan's relationship are getting a lot better now and it will be a nightmare for everyone if they reunited one day. True or not it has to be taken seriously. That's why i think this is the reason why the americans are slowly realizing the importance of philippines and US relationship in the future, and they do care a lot about the shipping lanes in the disputed islands with thousands of tonnage of ships and cargos being transported along that area going to different parts of asian countries with their allies. |

Phl to Taiwan: Recto bank ours MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang maintained yesterday that Recto Bank off Palawan is within Philippine territory and oil exploration in the area is non-negotiable with other claimants to the nearby disputed Spratly Islands. “The Recto Bank is not part of the Spratlys. So under international law, Recto Bank is an integral continental shelf of Palawan. So our position has always been the same. If it’s disputed we are willing to talk to you, but if it’s not disputed, what is ours is ours,” presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda said. Taiwan protested on Tuesday the plan of the Philippines to explore oil and gas in disputed waters in the West Philippine Sea (South China Sea) where the Taiwanese have also staked their sovereignty over several islets and reefs. The Philippines considers Taiwan as part of China under its one-China policy. Manila only maintains economic relations with Taipei. The oil- and gas-rich Spratly Islands is being claimed in whole or in part by the Philippines, Brunei, Taiwan China, Vietnam and Malaysia. “Recto Bank (also known as Reed Bank) is part of the Spratly Islands and we reject any claim or occupation by any means of the islands and the surrounding waters,” the Taiwanese foreign ministry said in a statement. According to the ministry, the Philippines is planning to accept bidding to explore and drill for oil and gas in the Reed Bank. “Our position is the same regardless of whoever the claimants are. Recto Bank is part of our territory,” Lacierda said. He said the Palace also agreed with the Department of National Defense’s statement that “the Philippines has sovereignty and jurisdiction over the Kalayaan Island Group,” the area being claimed by the Philippines in the disputed Spratlys. orig web thank u at nagkalakas loob na kau

^^Thats one impressive statement from RP government. Taiwan is one of the countries that the philippines should not be afraid of because they are being supplied by american military assets, and i think the US would not allow Taiwan to use their weapons against any US allies. What is ours is ours. Taiwan should shut up and evacuate their military tools around Recto Banks if there is any. |

Pacific big enough for all of us, says China envoy to PH MANILA, Philippines - The Chinese ambassador to the Philippines on Wednesday moved to calm growing fears of armed confrontation in the Pacific, where the two countries are locked in a tense territorial row. The Philippines has responded to what it perceives as heightened Chinese aggressiveness by calling for stepped up military ties with the United States. And it will hold a large-scale military exercise with the US next month on the main island of Luzon and in Palawan, an island on the Philippines' southwest coast facing the South China Sea. But Ma Keqing said any such military ties were an internal matter for the Philippines, and that for now China was willing to jointly develop disputed areas in the South China Sea. "The Pacific is large enough for the US and China. We hope that the US will take a constructive role to make this region more peaceful and stable," the ambassador told reporters. "It's up to you: military, economic (ties) with other countries. It's a basic principle not to intervene with other's affairs. Every country adopts its policy according to its national conditions." China and the Philippines, along with Taiwan, Vietnam, Malaysia and Brunei have competing claims over large parts of the South China Sea including the Spratly islands. The territorial dispute over the waters, which are believed to sit atop vast deposits of gas and oil, has for decades been regarded as one of Asia's potential military flashpoints. Tensions rose last year after the Philippines accused China of aggressive actions including an incident where Chinese vessels fired on Filipino fishermen and harassed an oil exploration vessel in its waters. The Philippines responded by calling for stepped-up military ties with the United States, triggering an angry response from China. However, the ambassador played down the spat and said that while no government could compromise on territorial integrity, the two countries could resort to "joint cooperation" to develop the disputed area until a final decision on the issue. Ma also said the 11.2 percent increase in China's military budget should not be a concern since its defence spending as a proportion of its total budget will still be lower than the United States, Russia, India or Brazil. orignial web |

Good. This means that China is not willing to go tit-for-tat against the PH with the US backing her up. Now is high time to develop our resources rapidly or as fast as we can. Drill baby drill! The new revenues should enable our AFP to truly modernize now provided they stop siphoning the resources again. We hope that Pnoy can truly transform the mindset of the top leadership not just in his administration but the AFP itself. Can that happen? Getting rid of corruption is a tall order but minimizing is doable. Well, when the money starts pouring in and the new assets start coming in, their ability to maintain and keep those precious and hard earned military assets will determine their future. Next time around, US will not give us anything including the National Security Cutters anymore when its up for retirement because of our ineptness and lackadaisical mentality. Hopefully this is the beginning of the end of us begging for military handouts if we truly want to transform ourselves in becoming a great nation come 2050. |

the hell with China, you know, we should just go ahead and drill within our EEZ and the rest of them can go to hell even Taiwan. If they start and make a move the AFP can count on me to serve again with my AK and Glock 22. |

Don't believe this news. Most probably, China is just doing some cooling down propaganda to cool tensions but I doubt they will be cooling down their military aggressiveness. |

China will not use force in Spratlys, says new envoy China does not intend to invade or use its military might to interfere in the affairs of any of its neighbors, including the Philippines and four other countries claiming ownership of the Spratlys in the West Philippine Sea (South China Sea), Beijing’s new ambassador to Manila said Thursday. “We have no ambition or ability to pose a threat to other countries … What we want to do is to protect China’s interests, protect its borders and sovereignty. That’s all,” Ambassador Ma Keqing told a news conference held Thursday at her residence in Dasmariñas Village, Makati City. Asked about the US plan to increase its military presence in the region, Ma said “China has responded very calmly” to the issue. “The Asia-Pacific is wide enough to accommodate (both) the US and China,” she said. Ma, who assumed her post only two months ago, noted the 11.2-percent increase in China’s military budget this year might have “aroused suspicions” among other countries about its real intentions. She emphasized that China’s military policy was “purely defensive in nature.” She pointed out that the growth in China’s military budget had been “very minimal” for a long time. “We increased the growth just to compensate for the previous years of neglecting the military budget,” she said. Ma said the bulk of military expenditures had been used “for logistics, for improvement of the officers’ well-being, to increase wages and so on. It was only in the last few years we used the increase in budget to purchase hardware for the military.” The military budget was “only 1.3 percent of the total (government) budget,” she stressed, pointing out that it was much lower than that of the United States, United Kingdom, Russia, India and Brazil. “So with such a military budget, I believe the Chinese Army will not pose any threat to other countries,” she said. whole article is here |
