Manila's troublemaking by CHINADAILY.com.cn At a time when the relevant countries have been pulling together to push forward the implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea and tensions in the area have generally eased, the Philippines has chosen once again to be a troublemaker. The Philippines should assume direct responsibility for the fresh flare-up of the South China Sea issue, as the Philippine government has invited major foreign oil companies to invest in exploration in 15 offshore oil and gas areas in the South China Sea. The Philippines should bear in mind that a number of the 15 areas are under Chinese maritime jurisdiction and it does not have the right to invite foreign enterprises to bid for service contracts there. China has indisputable sovereignty over the Nansha Islands and adjacent waters and it is unlawful for any country or company to explore oil and gas in areas under Chinese jurisdiction without the permission of the Chinese government. Unfortunately, China's protests seem to be falling on deaf ears and the Philippines seems intent on following its own course, despite the fact that last July, China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations adopted an agreement on the Guidelines on the Implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea. China has always tried to bear in mind the overall situation and made efforts to promote cooperation with other South China Sea countries to find a peaceful solution to the disputes. But if any country thinks it can take advantage of China's desire to maintain peace and stability in the region, which benefits all countries, and attempts to encroach on China's legitimate interests, they will be sorely disappointed. China will steadfastly safeguard its territorial sovereignty. It will take time to achieve a peaceful resolution to the South China Sea disputes and all parties must gradually build up mutual trust through pragmatic cooperation. This will lay the groundwork for further negotiations. The Philippines should refrain from moves that complicate or aggravate the disputes, adhere to the spirit of the declaration and make determined efforts to promote peace and stability in the South China Sea. Those that make irresponsible unilateral actions will only eat the bitter fruit of their own behavior in the end. |

the u.s. might owe china trillions of dollar, but this you fail to see, if ever we found oil deposits in our territory, the u.s. would be willing to go to another war just to protect us hence that would automatically cancel all the debt and freeze all of china's assets in u.s. hands furthermore the u.s. will get most of western europe behind it's back maybe say that if china gets all the oil your doomed but if we u.s. get the oil we will share it like what we did in saudi arabia where corporation like shell and the like may particiate like shell. (sad to say we cant protect ourselves at present conditions) my opinion sound far fetched but look at history, great war - u.s. is in depression/recession; world war 2 - u.s. is not in the state of depression or recession but actually profited in the early part of the war but still they joined anyway due to the attack on pearl harbor. desert storm- to protect saudi arabia enduring freedom- 911 incident. operation flashpoint PHILIPPINES- who knows |

dont mind him. thanks for the extra news, AS SOME OF US KNOWS any article that came out of china has the blessings of their communist government(dahil walang freedom of expression sa china and all forms of media are controlled) hence this would be great intelligence and a marker as to when might the chinese attack us or what their next step would be. yes china might attack us, why cause their communist government is brilliantly s t u p i d, my basis as to ther stupidity is their absurd 9 dash line claim. ot- china recently said that it was there explorers who discovered continental north america as evidenced by the wooden anchors found somewhere in the u.s., YEAH RIGHT! WHAT ARE THEY TRYING TO PROVE OR SAY THIS TIME THAT AMERICA IS THEIRS OR JUST TRYING TO DEFACE COLUMBUS OF HIS ACHIEVEMENT.(will search the article and news piece shown in the u.s.) |

Thanks! :) In the case of them discovering america, Why didn't they conquer it when they had the chance? They had their chance and did not grab it so there is in no way that they can actually do something now. :) sorry for them. |

il be more happy if they are gonna pay us with military goods per year like a squadron of F16 blk 50 or 2 OHP its just much better to be paid in good rather than millions of dollar.(dont forget we got to much LOLONGS in our country)paying in cash is ok as well, but a small cash amount +military assets will be much better.besides the staying of military personnel is prohibited,so we need to wait if PNOY will go for CHACHA(IF HE REALLY GOT THE BALLS TO DO THAT maraming marami syang makakalaban im just crossing my fingers). If our President has the balls of MARCOS il be damn and will support him all the way,but by looks of whats happening locally(cabinet members on scandals like YAMAS ex NBI MAGDULA and many more.the only guy that got fired is magdula reset is still on his cabinet>correct me if my spelling is incorrect) |

Defense chief belittles China protest of Philippine oil exploration invitations MANILA, Philippines—Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin on Thursday dismissed China’s protestations over the Philippine government’s invitation to major foreign oil companies to invest in fuel exploration near Palawan in the West Philippine Sea, saying the offshore areas were well within the country’s territory. In an interview at Camp Aguinaldo, Gazmin also said he saw no reason for fresh tensions to build up over the disputed waters. “I don’t think so. I don’t think so,” Gazmin said in answer to a question whether the Philippine move might strain relations with China. “Now, if they get angry, we cannot control their emotions. But then, we still stick to the fact that these [areas] are within our territory. It is ours. Like our President said, ‘what is ours is ours.’ That’s very definite,” he told reporters. Gazmin said he did not see any particular need to step up patrols in the West Philippine Sea (South China Sea), although “we will continue to maintain our patrols in the area.” He said foreign oil companies should rest assured that their operations would be secure should they accept the Philippine invitation. “Of course, the investors would not come here if they weren’t assured of their safety. We are doing all that we can in order to protect what’s ours,” Gazmin said. Energy Secretary Jose Almendras earlier said the Philippine government had invited major foreign oil companies to invest in fuel exploration in two offshore areas northwest of Palawan province within the country’s 200-nautical-mile exclusive economic zone. But when asked to comment, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said the offshore areas were under China’s jurisdiction. The Philippines and China traded barbs early last year over repeated incursions by the latter into the former’s territory, including an incident in which two Chinese vessels allegedly harassed a Philippine exploration ship at Reed Bank, prompting the Philippines to send planes and Coast Guard ships to the area. This was followed by a string of other incidents over the next few months that drew protests from the Philippines. China then issued strong words warning the Philippines about its statements. At the heart of the dispute is competing claims over the Spratly group of islands, a reputedly oil-rich chain of tiny islands and reefs located near Palawan. The chain is claimed wholly by China, and partly by the Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei, Vietnam and Taiwan. orig web |

if we can negotiate for billions of dollars (or military assets e.g. p3 orion) along with technology help so our country can be self reliant and use the weapons developed to sell to other countries and to america which will help them financially (both cost effective and effective weapons just like the Swedish jas 39 gripen). as the first payment. and then they pay us yearly because they are using our resources. |
