Considering what's happening to America right now with regards to it's present problems, they're hands are tied up and China may take advantage of these situations..

The US is already getting the pressure from China for them to look after their investments, America right now is in NO position to get engage with any kind of Conflict, much more with China.. The only thing they can do to help the Philippines in case conflict arises in WPS is for them to supply/sell us with Military Hardware's that we need to protect ourselves, even then there's no guarantee that they can/will give us what we want...? :dunno:

This will be the possible likely scenario and I don't think the US Congress will sacrifice their Country's inner interests just to save us, there's high provability that they will not intervene directly for us against China, they (US) may just be oblige to support the Philippines because of the MDT, like how they do it with TAIWAN.

Regardless of all these, I still believe the US may/can help the Philippines behind the scenes in case a shooting war with China in WPS breakout, through Country Allies like JAPAN, Australia maybe INDIA that don't fancy China that much.... Maybe the recent Military Naval exercise in WPS/SCS of JAPAN and Australia with the US is meant for something like this scenario.... :armywink:

India is not a ally of USA for anyreason and why would They be considered to be in a war against china when phillipines doesn't share any close diplomatic ties with India.

Specially since anywar in b/w China or India will not remain to your quarter and will not only destruct china but even India will be behind years from now.
After alll Both nations got over 2 lakh missiles each.

No nation helps the other until there is some benefit. Phillipines will not be helped by USA in anycase but yes there will be a diplomatic pressure on china But the moment it takes on USA in terms of Military power that would be by 2025.

Till then they will continue to bully you after that they will over take all the natural resources you got though even you don't have much of resources but atleast better than china.

Vietnam did the right thing by awarding oilfields to India in a jv.
And when China tried to bully them and told them to go away no heed was paid to them.

Phillipines instead looking for china should start a closer ties with Russia/India as China
By including both these nation in their scheme of things they could easily make china thinks hundred times before doing anything to you. Provide oil blocks exploration to India let russia and india have a air base. In case you wish not to offend USA at the same time include India. 2-3 squadrons of Tejas and one of sukhoimki will be able to give you a airsuperiority around your region.
And buy lots of attacking choppers

Also this will make a understanding b/w vietnam and SE nations there and phillipines to act as one military alliance.
Ask USA for apache or old cobras as aid.

Buy LCH HAL Janmejay.
They have a long range and can operate to an altitude of 6000m and Helina missiles will be operated with them and will give potential advantage over any small naval vessels or old generation obsolete vessels that chinese still operate.
add some uavs from Israel or India .

You will be well protected.
Also you must not miss that there is taiwan korea and japan which will come up first and will definitely help you as its in their own interest .

But your politicians seems to be busy somewhere else i guess wake 'em up
USA will never be a part of this until Japan or India join in.

PH studies US offer to deploy spy planes to guard our EEZ/Borders & territories

By Manny Mogato, Reuters
Posted at 01/27/2012 7:10 PM | Updated as of 01/27/2012 9:40 PM

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippines is considering a US proposal to deploy surveillance aircraft on a temporary, rotating basis to enhance its ability to guard disputed areas in the South China Sea, Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin said on Friday.

Gazmin said ongoing talks in Washington on security ties between the two allies include plans to deploy more littoral combat ships and spy aircraft.

An expanded US military presence in the region should raise the Philippines' capability to deter border intrusions, he said.

"I would rather look at it from the positive point of view that there would be stability in the region, that we would have enough deterrent," Gazmin told reporters.

"Without a deterrent force, we can be easily pushed around, our territories will be violated. Now that we have a good neighbor on the block, we can no longer be bullied," he said, referring to the United States.

US and Philippine officials are discussing the expansion of military cooperation as the Philippines grapples with the growing assertiveness of China.

The talks with the Philippines, a US ally which voted to remove huge American naval and air bases 20 years ago, follow Washington's announcement of plans to set up a Marine base in northern Australia and possibly station warships in Singapore.

The Obama administration describes the moves as part of a "pivot" toward economically dynamic Asia designed to reassure allies who felt neglected during the Afghanistan and Iraq wars.

But China sees the deployments as part of a broader US attempt to encircle it as it grows into a major power.

The South China Sea could be a flash point.

China claims the entire sea, while the Philippines, Brunei, Malaysia, Vietnam and Taiwan all have claims to parts of the area believed to have rich deposits of oil and gas.

Protest

Gazmin confirmed a US offer to deploy surveillance aircraft in the Philippines but he said there was no plan for any new US bases. The Philippines has a constitutional ban on foreign military bases on its soil.

Gazmin said there would be more exercises with US forces and a rotating presence through port visits for exercises, repairs and resupply.

Since 2002, about 600 US commandos have been stationed in the south of the Philippines to help train and advise Philippine troops in fighting a small Islamist militant group with ties to al Qaeda.

A Philippine military source told Reuters the head of the US Pacific Command had proposed last August the deployment of P-3C Orion surveillance aircraft.

More talks are due in Washington in March.

Left-wing Philippine groups are planning to hold protests outside the US embassy in Manila on Saturday to denounce what they describe as the "treacherous" negotiations with the United States.

"They say that they will not bring back the US bases but the proposal aims for virtual basing just the same," Renato Reyes, secretary-general of left-wing Bayan (Nation) group, said in a statement.

The Philippines hosted major US military facilities with tens of thousands of airmen and sailors for nearly a century until 1992 when US forces pulled out after a vote in the Philippine Senate to terminate the bases treaty.

In 1998, the Philippines and the United States signed a Visiting Forces Agreement that allows US troops to visit for exercises and rest and recreation.

Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda also said the talks would not include the creation of any new US bases.

This is one of the cheaper way to monitor our border territories against intrusions at the same time without endangering our PAF Pilots lives, they should consider acquiring a few of these as part of AFPM, hope they will deploy Predator MQ-1 armed versions since we don't have fighter capability yet, we can use it to bug off MRF bogey intrusions while we wait for our MRF's...

If they pursue these plans then it only means one thing, CWS in Palawan is up and running or they may station AC in WPS on a temporary basis.

It's going to be a battle of the fittest, this will definitely raise tensions and protests from Beijing and some little actions in the air definitely!

Think their trying to test the waters or respond and anticipate the soon commissioning of the Shi-lang AC...

In some way it's a good idea for us with regards to saving our Pilot's lives a bit cheaper considering these things can loiter overhead for 14 hours, fly up to 400 nautical miles (740 km) to a target, then return to base.

The only thing that worries me is that the idea, timing of the proposal? It's too early for us coz we're not ready yet to defend our Country in case Beijing tries to call the bluff and us getting caught up in the middle like a catch basin without anything... :armyskeptic:

But the insults and the threats we should respond in kind.

I agree with you.... during Cory Administration when the PAF F5 jets patrolling the WPS locates a Chinese floating marker or buoys. Our F5s will respond to it in kind by " STRAFING THE MARKERS with its twin 20mm Cannons " like a Target practice.

The plan is indeed inexpensive for the philippines but would rather further encourage the philippines to be more dependent from united states instead of us learning how to be more self-reliant and totally independent.

If only china would stop their BS all out claims in WPS then there will be peace in the region.

Also, the philippines should try harder to keep americans away from building another military base. Because once they do it again then the philippines will forever be a hand-me-down nation. However, a joint military base could be more safer while both the US and the philippines are sharing the military facilities including with other allies if possible. The AFP should also be given full access to any advance weaponries and other military assets at the base. This way the philippines will be forced to buy and be trained with the latest gadgets, MRF's, warships, and other weaponries that are available.

thats right... and can we not make our own unmanned drones? Mapua can probably build one made of cheap materials and parts. as long as it can clearly bring back images and fly long long distance for couple of hours. lahat na lang ba imported?

China should punish Philippines over US military offer - China state media

http://www.interaksyon.com/article/23117/c...ina-state-media

BEIJING -- China should impose "sanctions" against the Philippines after it offered to allow more US troops on its soil, state media said Sunday, amid growing tensions over disputed waters in the South China Sea.

Manila said Friday it planned to hold more joint exercises and to let more US troops rotate through the Southeast Asian country -- an offer welcomed by the United States as it seeks to expand its military power in Asia.

China has not yet officially responded to the announcement, which was made during the country's week-long holiday for the Lunar New Year. The foreign ministry on Sunday did not immediately respond to AFP requests for comment.

But an editorial in the Global Times, known for its nationalistic stance, said Beijing "must respond" to the move by using its "leverage to cut economic activities" between the Philippines and other Southeast Asian countries.

China also should consider "cooling down" business links with its smaller neighbor, according to the editorial published in the Chinese and English versions of the newspaper.

"It should show China's neighbouring areas that balancing China by siding with the US is not a good choice," it said.

"Well-measured sanctions against the Philippines will make it ponder the choice of losing a friend such as China and being a vain partner with the US."

China and the Philippines, along with Vietnam, have rival claims to parts of the South China Sea, home to some of the world's most important shipping lanes and believed to hold vast deposits of fossil fuels.

Taiwan, Brunei, and Malaysia also have claims in the South China Sea.

Manila and Hanoi complained repeatedly last year of what they said were increasingly aggressive acts by China in the decades-long rift.

The alleged acts, which included a Chinese naval ship reportedly firing warning shots at Filipino fishermen, fuelled fears among some nations in the region about China as its military and political strength grows.

The US has been looking to increase its military presence across the Asia Pacific in a strategic shift that has angered China.

US President Barack Obama said in November the United States would deploy up to 2,500 Marines to northern Australia. The following month a US admiral wrote that the US expected to station several combat ships in Singapore.

china is an export-driven economy, we buy from them more than we sell to them so how can they impose sanction us, by not selling their mostly low-quality & knock off products?
