that's good to know. Pero baka ang drawback nito hindi na maging seryoso ang pilipinas at umaasa nalang sa america sa pag depensa.

thats right alam na natin ang ugali nang politikos. I say the modernation must proceed without delay whatever happens. I say the people now should pressure the congress and senate to fast track the modernization or there will be people power 10 or whatever.

The modernization of the AFP is in full throttle. No turning back. The reason why the US is going to help right now is because they trust this present administration. Noynoy was true to his word that his governance will root out corruption one step at a time. A rumor is said that the PN is planning to buy it's first submarine from the US.

Manila: US obliged to defend Filipinos in Spratlys

MANILA, Philippines – Philippine officials say U.S. forces are obliged to help defend Filipino troops, ships or aircraft under a 1951 Mutual Defense Treaty if they come under attack in the disputed Spratly Islands in the South China Sea.

The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs says in a policy paper, which was seen by The Associated Press on Wednesday, that the treaty requires Washington to help defend Filipino forces if they come under attack in the Spratlys.

The potentially oil- and gas-rich Spratly Islands have long been regarded as one of Asia's possible flashpoints for conflict. China, the Philippines and Vietnam have been trading barbs and diplomatic protests recently over overlapping territorial claims, reigniting tension.

US, Philippines renew military partnership

The United States and the Philippines renewed their commitment under the Mutual Defense Treaty (MDT) as they commemorate Wednesday the 60th anniversary of the military agreement.

In a press conference in Malacanang on Wednesday, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said the alliance between US and the Philippines has helped the security of both countries, which enabled them to gain progress in many fronts.

The partnership strengthened democracy, improved the economy and increased ties with the people in both countries, she said.

Clinton, together with Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario signed the Manila Declaration renewing the commitment of both countries to the military pact. Clinton said the 60-year alliance under the MDT is not about the past but how the US and the Philippines could face the future together.

Starting last year, the US embarked on a campaign of more increased diplomacy, she said, inaugurating the first Philippine-US strategic dialogue in Manila and in June she welcomed the foreign affairs secretary in Washington.

Clinton said they are welcoming Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin and Secretary del Rosario in January in a two-plus-two format discussions in Washington, making it the first time four secretaries from both countries sit down together to take a comprehensive look at the partnership.

At the same, Clinton recognized that the Mutual Defense Treaty between the US and the Philippines has be updated and brought to the 21st century.

We should build very large placards on pag-asa and our other reefs that look like:

亲吻我们的肛门

They need to be large enough so that the Chinese Ziyuan sat's can see them from space!

while there is still the MDT with the US, its better strategy to continue the momentum of AFP modernization just in case the MDT will be delayed in case of conflict with external enemy. the nation should not keep on relying on MDT. Especially China is becoming more powerful and influential every year. I say having both is the best, have the MDT and try our luck and the same time keep on modernizing. thats 2 birds in one stone. Itong mga old school na akala nila the US is always there for us is living in the la la land. We don't want to wake up one day looking for the MDT and the US congress is still looking for it and waiting for a decision and debate.

Hitman, that I can agree with. Keep the MDT but push for modernization.
