Taiwan and Kalayaan island group have more concerns at the moment than does the Philippines. China certainly has the power to project it's military might.
The fact that Japan plays a crucial role in the stability of the region and serves as a sort of checkmate for China's ambitions in the interim.

The quality of the Chinese-made hardware still leaves much to desire. Way back in the late 1980's, a company decided to import brand-new buses from China. After a few years, the buses ceased to run while 2nd-hand buses from Japan that were a decade older were still running though they had become smoke belchers.

If you are trying to start a taxi fleet, would you rather buy three Chinese-made Cherry cars or two Toyota Corollas?

If you are starting an airline, would you rather buy brand-new Chinese passenger jets or would you buy 2nd-hand but well maintained Airbuses or Boeings? (Yes, I know that China does not yet produce passenger jets but this is just an example).

Same case for military equipment. I'd rather buy 2nd-hand F-16's from the US rather than brand-new J-9's or J-10's.

the U.S.-PHILS Defense Mutual Treaty is still in effect right? this is our trump card.

if indeed that happens, the U.S. won't hesitate with its very itchy hands to launch an operation shock and awe.

the best thing our government do is to establish another treaty with Australia and Japan similar to U.S-PHIL Defense Mutual Treaty and make a pacific defense cooperation in the pacific.

Yeah I bought a pair of speakers for my laptop and it looked good, plugged it in when I got home and it lasted an entire 48 hours then burned out. Guess what, it was cheap and nice looking but Made In China. Should have known better but in my haste to save money ended up having to buy a Sony Pair.

Wouldn't it be safer to procure equipment from a country with which we have a defense pact?

We pay a premium for US equipment for a reason. The Chinese are still relatively new to the aircraft manufacturing game, and even have to procure engines from Russia.

The Chinese-made bullpups are rather . . . interesting. However, I wouldn't want to strain our logistical chain with unfamiliar equipment.

your right sir! SAFETY FIRST! :ssalute:

Unless they're 'seeking death' like the NPAs and suicide bombers of Hamas!!
"Provocation is a valid defense against homicide"- Canadian Law on MSantor who 'cough, cough..', passes by my company room with a cup of coffee, waits for me in the bus shelter together with his friends and provoke me, and has been stalking me in forums like army.ca, navy.ca, timawa.net, militaryforums.com... He indeed is 'SEEKING DEATH' - Holy Bible.
