Israeli, I'm not advocating that we go Chinese, what I'm saying is why wait for U.S. made equipment if we could get from other sources that could at least "deter" these threat using "unreliable" Chinese technology, but still is giving us sleepless nights. Why can't our leaders have that sleepless nights themselves? :headbang:

hmmmmmmmmm... okay.

maybe its time for the Philippines to consider going Russian or French. otherwise, our leaders will forever be stuck into this mentality that anything American is better than the rest.

...or maybe our leaders can't get kickbacks from deals that are non-American. :nono: :demon:

No offence to anyone here, but the PRC/mainland China is too focused on its own "internal" problems, such as Taiwan, Xinjiang and Tibet in order to maintain the vital stability needed to ensure inherent economic growth. I don't think the PLA/ Jie Fang Jun will ever try to invade Luzon and any other Philippine island because of several reasons:

1.) PLA amphibious forces are too small in number- in both "Marine" brigades and number of amphibious ships-these are not even enough to invade Taiwan either!

2.) the PLAAF still does not have the air-to-air refuelling capability to allow its Su-27s to reach Luzon.

3.) The PLA knows very well not to invade and occupy a country where popular resentment/opinion will go against them, as they did when they invaded Vietnam in 1979- and lost over 40,000 men (David Shambaugh, Modernizing the People's Liberation Army, UC Berkeley Press) and withdrew

4.) They probably also learned from the Imperial Japanese Army's own disastrous occupation of the Philippine islands during World War II

Thus, China is too focused on consolidating its economic power and securing a nationalistic base in order to expand. We, in the Philippines, on the other hand, should not treat the Chinese as our outright enemy but as the regional power they deserve to be treated as- we will gain more in the process.

"Xian Zai Mian Huo...Wo Men Ying Gai Xiao Xin" in order to dispel disaster- we must observe caution

Like it or not, China will be a world power-even America has gradually accepted that- in spite of what its conservatives think.

Chill out bro.

Given the ongoing disputes, China is a potential adversary. Even other ASEAN countries keep that in mind. Just because it is not imminent, it doesn't mean that we shouldn't keep the spear sharp.

Lived in Taiwan for 3.5 years. Nobody has a monopoly on racism. Besides, what's racist about talking about possibilities?

MSantor: China does not need aerial tankers for its Sukhois. the Su-30MKKs can fly from Hainan, bomb Manila and fly back to Hainan without the need for aerial refueling. the Su-30MKKs are simply the best long-range multi-role fighters in the Western Pacific as of the moment. :headbang:

also, China already started its "occupation" of the Philippines by placing troops on Philippine-OWNED islands in the Spratlys. :drunk:

ADROTH,

Ni Zhu zai Tai Wan, dui bu dui? Ni shi zai na li zhu?

(Geez I wish I could type in characters in this foruminstead)

Perhaps racism is the wrong word- I just that whenever I go back to ManilaI encounter some xenophobic Filipinos- like some provincianos I noticed talking "smack" about some Westerners at some mall I was at.

I am not applying that most Filipinos like that- given the Hispanic telenovela craze and the Chinovela craze after that. Hehe...

It's just that I don't think the PLA sees any inherent value in landing troops in the Philippine islands- the Spratlys excluded of course. If China expands somewhere in the near future (beyond Taiwan and its current borders), I think it will probably head North or West to the former Soviet Republics- I think Kazakhstan has oil.

Just to entertain the possibility you guys brought up- (that the Chinese will go on in a expansionist surge throughout East and Southeast Asia like the Imperial Japanese Army once did in its "Nan Shin" drive in WWII)- I think that will happen in the 2030s or anytime later, when Chinese economic power is more secure and they are a more prominent world power. We might see Chinese carrier battlegroups patrolling everywhere from the Strait of Malacca to the US West Coast. :btt:

Even the new Su-30MKK2 has less combat radius than F-15s. The Japanese has a big number of them albeit primarily for interceptors, the South Koreans are about to get deliveries of 40, the Singaporeans might get them, the PAF is going to get them secondhand in 10 years... :devilwink:
