Yes...but we need not rely on the US Forces to help us coz it would take a Congressional Approval for the US Forces to take action.... So its up to us to form our own Military Force to counter the Threat.

US Navy secretary concludes 'quiet' visit to Southeast Asia
Sam LaGrone JDW Staff Reporter
Washington, DC

Key Points
■US Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus has visited Southeast Asia on a little-publicised week-long trip to Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam

■The Mabus trip follows increasing tensions in Southeast Asia in the last year as a result of more aggressive Chinese navy power projection

The US Navy has concluded a year of outreach to Southeast Asian maritime nations with a little publicised visit by US Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus to Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam.

"Most of the US presence in the Western Pacific is naval and we have had a lot of attention paid to the Western Pacific and Southeast Asia this year," Mabus told Jane's in a 1 December interview shortly after his trip's conclusion on 28 November.

Mabus' trip is set against the backdrop of increasing tensions in the region stemming from long-running disputes between members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and China for mineral and navigation rights in the South China Sea.

The US has increased its naval engagement in the region. In 2010 the USN conducted joint military operations with Cambodia for the first time since the Vietnam War and also sent a warship to Vietnam to mark the 15th anniversary of normalisation of relations.

This year saw an increase in aggression from China's People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) in projecting power into the 1.3 million square miles of sea, of which China lays claim to 80 per cent.

In 2010 China elevated the sea to the level of "core national interest", putting it on a par with Taiwan and Tibet, as well as declaring additional naval enforcement in its exclusive economic zone; it also provocatively placed the Chinese flag on the ocean's floor off the coast of the Philippines.

Mabus said the US remains neutral in the territorial disputes between ASEAN and China but would look out for its interests, particularly in the realm of freedom of navigation in the region. He called for more engagement with China. "We would like more engagement with the PLAN and we would like more transparency in why they are doing what they're doing," Mabus said.

While in Thailand, Mabus met Minister of Defence Prawit Wongsuwan and Chief of Defense Forces General Songkitti Jaggabatara. He also met Singapore's Chief of Navy Rear Admiral Chew Men Leong and Vietnamese People's Navy Vice Admiral Nguyen Van Hien.

TO PRC: This isn't the 15th century where you can plant a flag on a piece of land (or body of water) and claim it as yours. :headbang:

Well going back, I think it's about time that our government should recognize this threat as well and finish the COIN problems ASAP. (suntok sa buwan) :headbang:

If P-Noy can't do it at his term, then he should atleast lead the way for the next administration. Like what he did for the PAF's modernization program of acquiring the new SF260's. :armycheers:

China and the U.S. are in different hemispheres. They do not share a land border, but are separated by the vastness of the ocean. As the Chinese saying goes the river water do not mix with water from wells.Unlike car tires and the road, there is little friction between the two nations.

y Associated Press, Published: June 17

MANILA, Philippines — President Benigno Aquino III insisted Friday that his country won’t be bullied by China in a territorial spat over the Spratly Islands and that Beijing should stop intruding into waters claimed by Manila.

Aquino also said in an interview with The Associated Press that a government-backed mission to scout Manila-claimed waters for oil and gas had turned up “very good” prospects, though he declined to elaborate. He said the Philippines reserved the right to explore its waters despite China’s rival claims.

Address Spratly Island to KALAYAAN ISLANDS, South China Sea to WESTERN PHILIPPINE SEA or Kanlurang Dagat ng Pilipinas.

enough with the warning. we need to construct military infrastructures to what we have left in west Palawan sea. Once China occupy these unoccupied ones, it will be very hard to evict them. No diplomatic protest will ever work just negotiations and protest that will last forever. We are running out of time here.

I Agree... Dapat may Lighthouse or Guard House structures dun sa mga areas that we owned. Hindi lang isang flag and marker but also a Marines to guard or minsan let the fishermen stay there while they are fishing the area...
