Name any politician who is not Macchaevellian. All of them are. If I would put his place on mine, I'll do it too. So that I can sleep soundly at night, Sir. (Private First Class ___ reporting for duty Sirs!!

Niccolo Machiavelli's writings, especially The Prince, advocated for the consolidation of power through any means. May it be subversion, blackmail, division, etc. so that one entity can have a firm grasp on power. That's how he lent his services to Lorenzo de Medici during the Renaissance.

To say that all politicians are Machiavellians is a bit too general. Otherwise a lot of us would be under dicators running socialist states so they could solidify their control.

Besides, I'm quite sure that a lot of politicians don't even read such classics. They're too embroiled in their self-serving gimmicks. And if they would've read it, they could be more successful in those terms. Most of them are satisfied magpacute at tumanggap ng suhol. No plans whatsoever. Hate to be mean, but most Flip politicians aren't deserving. Just a bunch of imcompetent amateurs who can't agree on anything even if their lives depended on it. Got the masses to blame for that. If they didn't get swayed by their pangako for a better future and voted for them, then it wouldn't be a problem.

I am not saying completely Macchaevellian but apply some of his teachings on how to handle the affairs of the state. Every politician is a Machaevellian in one way or another.

I am thankful that you criticized my postings, reaper. Now Putin knows that I care for him same way as he cares to sell us at bargain prices 300 of their surface-to-air missiles that can decimate 300 NPA camps scattered all over the Philippines. Maybe because of my lip service he is willing to donate 40, 000 Kalashnikovs and AK-47s to the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

"Don't link me to my past". These were the words of Victor corpus when he was accused of communist loyalties. Putin should had said it too. Plus that "Anybody who wants a return to the Old Soviet Union(like the members of the Partido Komunista ng Pilipinas and Alex Boncayao Brigades) is completely out his mind". I think statements like that from Putin is good enough assurance that he is pro-capitalist inspite of his ex-KGBs appointees. Let's not push him back to the Left.

And that is not the issue nowadays, reaper. The issue is could we get hold of those Russian airplanes and "PT-boats" at bargain prices while we pledge allegiance to the US Constitution.

If we're going Russian it would be best if we do joint work with them with shelved or future projects. That way it would be far easier and cost-effective to adapt the design to fit possible Western systems than on existing ones.

But besides weapon and space research, what good areas do the Russians excel? What about medicine? We could certainly use a good yet affordable medicines for our people. And maybe MREs which would be of great help for disaster relief efforts.
Command is about authority, about appointment to a position. Effective leadership is different. It must be learned and practiced in order for it to rise to the level of art. You must love those you lead before you can be an effective leader. You can certainly command without that sense of commitment but you cannot lead without it; and without leadership, command is a hollow experience. .. a vacuum often filled with mistrust and ignorance.

here's my take on the issue as to whether the Philippine military should get Russian-made stuff or not...

regardless of the origin (US, Europe, Russia, India, Israel, South Africa and China, to name a few), what is important is that such product satisfies the needs of the Philippine military and helps enhance its capabilities as an armed force.

although it will be a long, hard shot for the Western-oriented AFP to acquaint itself with Russian-made stuff, wouldn't it be more practical for the Philippine military to join the flow of countries in the region- Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand (considers getting Su-30MKs), Vietnam and China, among others- that are now considering products made in Russia or ex-Soviet bloc countries such as Poland and the Czech Republic given the fact that military products coming from Russia and ex-Soviet bloc states are somewhat at par with their Western counterparts and that they are relatively cheap compared to those made in the US or Europe.

lastly, i do not believe that the Americans would get offended by us getting Russian stuff using OUR OWN MONEY. instead, it should spur a friendly competition between American and Russian firms in efforts to win the weapons and equipment tenders in the Philippines. just imagine a close-fight competition between Sukhoi's Su-30MK2 Flanker and Lockheed Martin's F-16E/F Block 60 to win the Philippine Air Force's next-generation multi-role fighter competition. :armywink:

p.s.: if we do get Russian-made stuff, we must make sure that we also get the right to license-manufacture both the weapons and equipment and the spare parts that go with them here in the Philippines.

I don't think the AFP can decimate NPA campswith 300 surface to air missiles... :armywink:

I totally agree with israeli. as Russian hardware is cheaper and has the same quality as western goods,we#d better go for them. The Us seeing it's losing a customer would possibly try to make their goods more attractive to us ba bargaining for example.
Going for Russia is the right way folks.

MSantor is not a man of sound reason. Savages have always preferred the club for they know that they are powerless against the pen. But who is the greater fool - the savage or the one that gives him power? May Truth rebuke you.

Totally agree with you on that one. Everybody has the propensity to be a Machiavellian since that is what it takes to run things in the Philippines' circus of a government.

Hopefully AK-74s with the 5.45mm 'poison' rounds. Just as rugged and reliable as the AK-47.

Now... where to get the money? Or... how to siphon funds earmarked for other pockets?

Lets wait for this year how does the TOP RUSSIAN officials will effect and influence some of our current military hardware purchase. Moscow is sending its top officials here. We might also see Putin coming to manila if the meeting will be fruitful after their visit.

Let us send our Russian speaking daughters to Manila then and serenade Putin in Russian and Filipino. The great man Putin (who garnered 85 percent of the vote this last Presidential elections) and his beautiful honest wife deserve to be welcomed with a gala of superstars actors and actresses, a in bountiful banquet hall ( man, buffet, adobo, pusit, etc.). Let's bring her over to a fashion show. Pitoy's! Cory, Imelda, Susan roces will be there. A great fiesta! Man, let's bring him to Boracay!
