Shall we go Russian?

The best that I could think of for now are those Russian underwater rifles and those rocket motored torpedoes. But those are for the Navy. No idea on how good Russian body armors are but don't like their helmets (well, if its really cheap or free I wouldn't mind those be used by our troops).
Command is about authority, about appointment to a position. Effective leadership is different. It must be learned and practiced in order for it to rise to the level of art. You must love those you lead before you can be an effective leader. You can certainly command without that sense of commitment but you cannot lead without it; and without leadership, command is a hollow experience. .. a vacuum often filled with mistrust and ignorance.

You guys say what you want about Russian hardware, Russian chicks are still among the hottest.

Seriously though, The only thing Russian I'll ever take would be the AK; maybe the the Hind too. Most others would be a measure of desperation. The Israelis know this only too well (which is why they modify the captured Russian stuff by mating it with Western technology).

If we need to go on the cheap, best take Czech or Polish: combination of Russian ruggedness and Western refinement.

Improvising is a better term than desperation.

Although Russian materiel has advantages in survivability and ruggedness (They're actually more suited to Flips who generally don't maintain their stuff as well as most other 'Western' forces), Uncle Sam wouldn't take those purchases lightly.

Reaper, Uncle Sam doesn't care about the Philippines, as some cynical, conservative d*ckwads on other parts of this forum are always apt to point out.

JUSMAG is keeping the AFP weak by making them focus on COIN. A weak Philippines gives them a partial justification to intervene in Southeast Asia in that area if and when the US public does care.

Russian equipment is a good idea. We have Traditionally Non-East bloc nations like Malaysia using the MiG29 as well as India using the Su30 on the Air Force front.

On the Naval front, we could use some Grishna frigates though they're old.

On the land forces front, we could get finally get some SAMs since I doubt those PMC Bofors could shoot down anything modern nowadays. A battalion of Tungushkas would do nicely as well as 800 SA7s launchers +reloads spread out to AFP stations all over the islands.

With that train of thought, that means that I also really shouldn't care 'bout the Philippines since I'm in the heartland (close to it anyway), right?

But rhetorics aside...

Most of the military equipment that the AFP has purchased are from the U.S. The U.S. gives the best deals, the most surplus equipment (although a lot of people claim that they're crap; hey, beggars can't be choosers), and they also fund a lot of AFP acquisitions.

Nevertheless, they do tend to concentrate on anti-terrorism. But that's because terrorism is the biggest threat that the P.I. and the U.S. faces. There's not going to be a military confrontation between the P.I. and any other country (in my opinion anyway), it's just not worth it nowadays. Maybe a little show of force, build-ups, but no major escalation. How many millions of dollars does Uncle Sam give in aid?

People are then gonna point out the Spratly's. They took our islands! They took our islands! As far as I know there are also other countries who claim that they have legitimate rights to the Spratlys because of proximity like Malaysia and the P.I. and others wanna use historical facts and primary discovery like China and Taiwan (the same reason for the P.I.'s claim to Sabah).

Can't even keep a prop driven Herc flying, much less advanced, twin-enginged air-superiority fighters like the Flankers.

Am I just biased towards the U.S. since they took me in? Or am I just narrow minded? Who knows... and frankly, who cares.

I for one don't buy that "JUSMAG keeps us in the dark" line of thought. Truth be told, even if there were no JUSMAG, we won't be able to buy Russian equipment even if it were cheap and available. We simply can't afford their wares, given the state of our finances now and the new economic savvy of the Russians. Besides, whatever the Russians have now, they produce only for themselves and limit their exports to older models. Hence, unless you're some oil-rich country with good credit standing, the Russians won't sell you their BMP-3, BTR-90, Flanker, or Fulcrum. They'd let you have the monkey-model T-55 with jubjub engine that only the Africans would admire.

We can buy our arms in Russia withoutt offending our US masters. We put our allegiance to USA in paper. VFA agreements. And so many defense-pacts we have and had had with USA.We can even amend our constitution and call on the framers to bring back the US bases The problem lies in the way we balance our act. Russia is now a capitalist country. The voters elected a pro-capitalist governments under the leadership of Putin whom I quote as saying, "Anybody who wants a return to the Old Soviet Union is completely out of his mind. God forbid, if NPA achieves an irreversible strategic stalemate, we can have a defense pact with Russia aside from those we have with ASEAN and India. Aside from US planes roaring their way to NPA territory and bombing their enclaves we can have Russian Navy warships in the coastal towns of Cagayan, Leyte etc firing missiles on the NPAs. As long as our allegiance USA is emphasized, renewed and assured, we can ask help from the Russians.Oh, if the Iraq war is justified under international law and will lay a precedent, oh, i tell you, Russian anti-communists are all itching to fire on Sison and his NPA. And when buying arms, let Mossad broker the deals. They're good at it. LOL

Funny, Putin, the ex-KGB operative, has been accused of consolidating his power behind the scenes by installing a lot of his ex-KGB buddies on a broad range of political and military seats.
