the usual feed back i read on the net and elsewhere.. is that you get what you pay for.. it's good if you know exactly what you need, example like the AA-11 archer (R-73) short range AAM. but the usual complaints is 'poor costumer support'..ie lack of spares, etc. you be the judge. |

The Poles are quite adept at incorporating new Euro and US components on existing Russian platforms. The Israelis too. Now whatever happened with that proposed acquisition of Polish defense equipment.... |

Definitely! The AFP must find other sources rather than all US made hardware. Since the US more often than not sells "half baked" goodies to the Philippines at outrageous prices, then go Russian or other suppliers. Like most of our fellow PDFF members have said in this thread that they cost cheaper but have the same or if not better performance. My wishlist for Russian Hardware? Tanks: BMP30 tank looks good but at 30+ tons can this cross long bridges. I know it is amphibous but how deep can it ford and for how long. Aircraft: Hind Helicopters would be very good for the airforce and army. Su-35 looks good lot cheaper than the F-16 If the problem would be resupplying or spareparts, why not get a license from the Russian Manufacturer and do them in the Philippines. Filipinos, I believe are one of the most ingenious race on earth its just the Philippines lack funds for training and technology but given these I am 100% sure this can become a reality and minimize the reliance from the original suppliers. But again will the Russian agree to this deal. |

Never heard of a BMP-30 tank But there is a BMP-3 IFV. It is amphibious, weights about 18 tons, armed with a 100mm main gun along with a 30 mm cannon and a 7.62 machinegun. Basic model has about 35mm of armor. Its able to carry 7 troops (+3 crew). ![]() Heres another BMP type vehicle. The interesting thing about it is that its developed from the chasis of a T-72 or T-55. BMP-T ![]() Last point: Su-35 35 million USD per plane F-16 25 million USD per plane NOTE: Cost of new plane |

Thanks Havoc for correcting me. I meant BMP-3 not BMP30, sorry for the typo. Thanks also for the info on the tank. Yes this one is good for the AFP considering it weighs just 18 tons and also made from a proven chassis of the T55. Its low silhoutte makes it a hard target to hit. It would be interesting to see this tank sporting a tropical camoflage scheme. We are all accustomed seeing this type of tank with the dark green scheme as with all Russian tanks. Does the F16 really cost that much now? I've read that its about $40 mil now due to the decline of the peso and that is why the AFP could not afford them anymore. Maybe that price $25 mil pas the price back in 1997 but correct me if I am wrong. Looking at the design of the Su-35, it looks more fearsome than the F16.
