Corruption in philippines we got it from spain... Few are honest! Get out in the service and study nursing and go abroad. You will make lots of money.

Better yet, marry a nurse and go the US.

why blame spain? indonesia was a dutch colony and its also corrupt yet netherlands is a clean country now, also spain, malaysia and singapore former british colonies virtually little corruption, thailand was never a colony but also high corruption...

think over this

The SAF is an armed force , not a civilian corporation. Its mission is to defeat its enemies, ruthlessly and completely. Its an instrument of controlled fury, designed to visit death and destruction of its foes...soldiers must have steel in their souls ..must learn in war to kill and not to flinch, to destroy and not to feel pity, to be a flaming sword in the righteous cause of national survival.

What the Spanish colonizers did is just one of the many factors involved here.

Nonetheless, if they had not colonized the Philippines, our country could have bred a much less number of corrupt leaders.

The Filipinos that time weren't like the Singaporeans who did not show any resistance at all to their colonizers. Hence, there was no need to bribe them.

Here, you have to do something to gather your pool of local supporters that time.

Thailand may have some corrupt leaders but i disagree that they are worse than ours.

They have the mightiest Air Force in the region and that alone shows that patriotism still overshadows greed.

Their economy is better than ours and that also proves that they still have a lesser number of corrupt men or that their number is still manageable.

Just one squadron of RSAF F-16 will destroy all of RTAF assets. No contest.

This I agree with, I think Thailand is much better, especially if their next round of purchases comes around, it will be better than the RSAF F-16 mind you.

Also, I always have my reservations about conscripted armed forces

hahahaha..mind you but rsaf is not sleeping either...our next generation fighter is coming soon..aand please don't compare rtaf's f16s against our f16s, the level of sophistication of our f16s are way waay higher than thailand's f16s...its like night and day..

conscripted yes bec sg has no luxury for all volunteer force but level of training and equipment standard is top rate and comparable to first world volunteer military..

Whatever, I still like Thailand and the Thais. They are much more polite and humble. Besides, Singapore can not even beat the Indians on air to air gunnery, that says a lot about aircrew skills. That means the RSAF can not even properly tangle with the IAF in an airwar. And I would not be surprised as they have already weighed and measured the F16s of Pakistan. Sophistication is character not the equipment.

In my military career I have met outstanding officers, all graduates of SAFTI. All of them have impressed me with their intelligence, warmth and humility with just a tint of pride being a member of a proud service.

I have trained with officers of the Singaporean Army and I can say with an absolute sense of certainty that they are among the finest and most humble allied officers I have had the privilege of being associated with.

I do hope you are not a real Singaporean. If you are, perhaps a little humility, tact and diplomacy would do you good.

We have a saying, translated in English, "never call a bald man, bald."
