I agree with you guys Wily n Goose! It seems Taiwan maybe playing a different game and just imagine how much US made firepower are in their disposal, if and when that day comes, "US just shot themselves to the foot", at the end of the day what ever happens blood is thicker than water for they are all related, all came from one tree, one root. Come to think of it.. It's basically the same with the Philippines right now, as to why just a Passive approach towards something that can spell our Country's doom if we don't really, "I mean really prepare" for the worse.
The Philippines and Vietnam are facing the same threats from China, actually ours is much worse, but look at how Vietnam prepares, look at how Vietnam stands firm against China, can you guys get the Picture???
Taiwan's slowly showing it's true colors..
Obvious naman eh, the Govt. before (nakipag agreement) or sell out, now naman talk talk lang (pero ayaw lumaban o ipaglaban at walang aksyon?) just wants to acquire Military equipments that are non lethal against Chicoms. :dunno:

Careful with the conclusions, it's not the Taiwan government talking but a Taiwanese individual.

Yes Sir Numbers, we can consider the caution and should have put "Maybe"?, "kasi last time parang nareport na they support China's claims to our Panatag Area?" but until they (Taiwan) acknowledge, respect our territorial rights with regards WPS the same way as we respect theirs, them not siding with China.. like I said magpipinsan iyan at magkaka dugo and they can switch side in an instant. :ssalute:

About the "approach".

Vietnam = Communist State -> aggressive military stance = bahala na magutom basta may armas, no choice comunista eh!

Philippines = Democratic Republic -> diplomatic and political maneuvers = dapat mahinahon, unahin ang dapat unahain e.g. education, infrastracture, health etc.

Another point.

Taiwan = Osama bin Ladin

US allies turned embittered enemies - parang ganun . . .

Taiwan wants to join talks on West PHL Sea Code of Conduct
August 2, 2012 8:44am
Taiwan wants to join talks of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) for a code of conduct that will address disputes in the West Philippine Sea (also called South China Sea).

James Chou, deputy director-general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Department of East Asian and Pacific Affairs, said disputes in the region should be resolved under multilateral frameworks.

Chou said any result achieved in such talks will be incomplete and "regrettable" if Taiwan cannot take part in the discussions, a report on Taiwan's Central News Agency quoted Chou as saying.

While Taiwan sometimes cannot be included in international mechanisms due to the One China Policy that recognizes only Beijing in diplomatic circles, the Taiwanese ministry said it has ensured Taiwan's voice was heard by the international community through different channels.

The CNA report said the Taiwan ministry has closely monitored the developments of the ASEAN's regional forum earlier this month.

During the forum, ASEAN decided to set the Code of the Conduct to resolve the dispute peacefully.

Taiwan is one of six claimants to the Spratly Islands in the West Philipine Sea area, the others being Brunei, China, Malaysia, Vietnam and the Philippines.

Aside from the Spratlys, the West Philippine Sea area also includes the Pratas Islands and Paracel Islands.

Chou said Taiwan stands firm on its sovereignty on the islands in the region and adheres to the principles of safeguarding its sovereignty, shelving disputes, rationality and peace, and joint exploration. — RSJ, GMA News

Taipei, Sept. 1 (CNA) Taiwan is determined to become a peacemaker in the South China Sea, President Ma Ying-jeou's top national security adviser said Friday during a visit to Taiping Island in the region.

"With our 60 years of experience in administering Taiping Island, we can serve as a humanitarian aid provider, anti-global warming practitioner and peacemaker in the region," declared National Security Council (NSC) Secretary-General Hu Wei-chen.

Hu and several other senior officials visited Taiping Island -- the largest isle of the Spratly Islands in the South China Sea -- Friday to reinforce the country's claim to the vast ocean area and the island chains there amid escalating territorial disputes among neighboring countries.
