Born in Pangasinan to Ilocos Sur natives, he immigrated to Salinas, California in the 1960s. His father was a Corporal in the 57th Infantry (PS) during World War II and, after the surrender of USAFFE to the Japanese, was subjected to the Bataan Death March; in the Korean War, the older Soriano again became a prisoner of war ("POW"). During this time, young Edward and the rest of his family moved from Guam back to the Philippines.[2] His father later retired as a Major. It was his father's service that inspired Edward Soriano to join the military after graduation from Salinas High School.

Dr. Eleanor Concepcion "Connie" Mariano is a physician, the first Filipino-American to reach the rank of Rear Admiral in the United States Navy, the first graduate of the Uniformed Services University of Medicine to reach flag officer status and the first woman to be the director of the White House Medical Unit.

Mariano was born at the Sangley Point Naval Base in Cavite City, Philippines in 1955. Two years later, her parents arrived in the United States. Her father served in the navy as a steward and eventually retired with the rank of Master Chief.

Pictured with him is a Pinoy member of the Canadian Air demonstration squadron, the Snowbirds, whom he met at an airshow at a US airbase in Alaska. His position is the Public Affairs Officer of the unit.

His rank says two stripes- which means he is a Canadian Forces Air Command Captain. (US equivalent of O-3/USAF Captain or British RAF/Aussie RAAF Squadron leader/OF-3)

Major John Cabigas USAF here is one of the closest we have to a Filipino Astronaut. He is an instructor pilot for the U2 Spy Plane.

He has actually brought Top Gear co-presentor James May to the upper reaches of our atmosphere for the BBC Special James May at the Edge of Space:
