It is acceptable to post foreign military movements within the area of the Spratleys/West Philippine Sea at this section since they are still within the topic.

Other foreign military movements or updates should be posted in the World Military News section of our forum.

The islet looks very developed already, almost a resort.

Fort those of you that do not know yet, Song Tu Tay was once ours - we called it Isla Pugad before the Vietnamese occupied it after duping Marcos Martial Law Soldiers into abandoning their posts by inviting them to a party on another island. :armyLol:

Vietnam Reveals New Drone for Patrolling the South China Sea

The drone prototype will conduct flight tests over the South China Sea in 2016.

December 28, 2015

Vietnam revealed its largest indigenous high-altitude long endurance unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) this December, IHS Jane’s Defense Weekly reports. According to local media reports, the prototype was completed at the beginning of November and will commence test flights over the South China Sea in the summer of 2016.

The prototype is a joint project of Vietnam’s Academy of Science and Industry and the Ministry of Public Security. The new UAV, designated HS-6L, will perform both civilian and military tasks, judging from the aircraft’s design features.

Vietnamese media reports that the unarmed UAV prototype sports a Rotax 914 engine and a 22-meter wingspan. It has a range of up to 4,000 kilometers as well as an endurance of up to 35 hours. It will be equipped with unspecified optical and radar surveillance systems.

IHS Jane’s Defense Weekly notes that the Vietnam may have received design assistance from Belarus, given that the unveiling of the aircraft coincided with the visit of the chairman of the Belarus Academy of Science.

Vietnam PM says country not pursuing military buildup in South China Sea
By: Martin Petty and Mai Nguyen, Reuters
May 25, 2016 6:48 PM

Vietnam Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said on Wednesday his country was not pursuing a military buildup over the South China Sea and would seek only peaceful means to solve disputes, with no use of force.

Speaking in an interview with several foreign journalists, Phuc said the situation in the South China Sea had recently grown in complexity and Vietnam needed regional friends and strategic partners to ensure peace and no disruption of maritime trade.

Phuc, who took office last month, said a key priority for Vietnam was managing its spiraling public debt and keeping the ratio below 65 percent of gross domestic product, and maintaining annual growth of 6.5-7 percent.

Vietnam detains activists after South China Sea ruling
By: Agence France-Presse
July 17, 2016 12:45 PM

HANOI - Scores of activists were detained in Vietnam's capital Sunday as they gathered to protest against China after it rejected a recent international ruling that dismissed its claims to much of the South China Sea.

Anti-Chinese sentiment runs deep in communist Vietnam but the country's authoritarian rulers move swiftly to tamp down expressions of public anger, fearful that allowing such protests might embolden criticism of their rule.

Activists had used social media to call for protests in Hanoi on Sunday in the wake of this week's ruling by the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) in The Hague which found there was no legal basis for Beijing's claims to vast swathes of the South China Sea.

Vietnam rejects Chinese passports with nine-dash line

The Straits Times/Asia News Network
July 18th, 2016

Vietnamese border officials are refusing to stamp new Chinese passports featuring the nine-dash line that represents China’s claim on most of the South China Sea.

According to a report by Vietnamese media group Tuoi Tre News on Saturday, holders of these passports are, instead, issued with a separate on-arrival visa. This is to avoid inadvertently recognizing China’s claim.

Exclusive: Vietnam moves new rocket launchers into disputed South China Sea - sources
HONG KONG | BY GREG TORODE

(...SNIPPED)

Foreign officials and military analysts believe the launchers form part of Vietnam's state-of-art EXTRA rocket artillery system recently acquired from Israel.

EXTRA rounds are highly accurate up to a range of 150 km (93 miles), with different 150 kg (330 lb) warheads that can carry high explosives or bomblets to attack multiple targets simultaneously. Operated with targeting drones, they could strike both ships and land targets.

That puts China's 3,000-metre runways and installations on Subi, Fiery Cross and Mischief Reef within range of many of Vietnam's tightly clustered holdings on 21 islands and reefs.
