**more about the sabotage claims...

Vietnam in sabotage claim against Chinese boats

Quote:

Vietnam's state-run energy giant PetroVietnam accused Chinese fishing vessels of sabotaging one of its boats, state media said Tuesday, the latest clash in the disputed waters of the South China Sea.

Geological survey vessel, the Binh Minh 2, was operating in Vietnamese territorial waters Friday when it was approached by a number of Chinese fishing vessels, Vietnam News reported.

The boats "ran up behind the Binh Minh 2, cutting the Vietnamese ship's seismic cables... Many Chinese vessels were operating in the area", company official Pham Viet Dung was quoted as saying in the report.

Dung, who is the deputy head of the exploration and exploitation department of PetroVietnam, added that the vessel's operation was restored to normal on Saturday.

The South China Sea is strategically significant, home to some of the world's most important shipping lanes and believed to be rich in resources. Vietnam has begun exploring for oil in what it claims as its territorial waters.

Dung said PetroVietnam objected to the Chinese boats' actions and said Hanoi must "ask Chinese citizens to respect Vietnam's sovereignty".

This is the second such incident in 18 months, with Chinese vessels accused of cutting the cables of the Binh Minh 2 in May last year, prompting Hanoi to demand compensation from Beijing.

India and Vietnam has responded appropriately with China's aggression. How about us? What are our response? Hope the higher ups are considering making a possible move immediately after the typhoon passes like I suggested in the other thread if the opportunity presents itself.

China-Vietnam war in the SCS before the year ends? So these Chinese fishing boats are not really fishing boats.

"With a land area of 12 hectares, Pugad Island is the sixth largest island in the disputed region aside from being the highest point at four meters above sea level."

Off topic but i hope that our military with local officials on the island are drawing up (or already done so) plans to put up elevated and reinforced shelters in view of the progressively rising sea level and worsening storms that will hit the area in the forseeable future. Saan sila tatakbo (especially the civilians on Pagasa) in case tamaan sila ng matinding storm surges? they will just be swept out to sea.

Sana these structures will be built along with improvement of the wharf and landing strip.

nothing new there.. thats why its more fun in the philippines <sarcasm> :lollol: as a people, generally speaking, karamihan sa ating mga kababayan ay mahilig sa sosyalan, partys, kainan, inuman, walang self-discipline. its more fun in the philippine ika nga. too much fun means lack of seriousness in life until the last minute. is the last-minute emergency purchases of AFP weapons that should have been done decades ago just one more symptom of "its more fun in the philippines' ??? hehehe

I agree though i don't think Marcos would even like the moved by the commanding officer, i bet those soldiers acted alone without any permissions from the President. After all it was the president himself who ordered to occupy all those islets. Did the commander invited all his troops? We'll never know...

I wonder what have happened to that stup-d commander's fate who let his troops abandoned the Pugad Island.
