Unfortunately, based on a survey, the main national priority is still inflation, jobs, poverty, salaries, etc. Defending national territories scored low.

If you can't have a bigger slice of the budget for defense spending, the next best thing is to bake a much bigger economic pie.
One thing the govt and majority of politicians doesn't realize... a better defense, more investors then all things will follow . . . . .
More investors, better economy.
Better economy, more jobs.
More jobs, better salary.
Better salary, better education.
Better education, more knowledge.

China installs cruise missiles on South China Sea outposts-CNBC report
Reuters

Posted at May 03 2018 08:25 AM

WASHINGTON - China has installed anti-ship cruise missiles and surface-to-air missile systems on three of its outposts in the South China Sea, US news network CNBC reported on Wednesday, citing sources with direct knowledge of US intelligence reports.

The move, if confirmed, would mark the first Chinese missile deployments in the Spratly Islands, where several Asian countries including Vietnam and Taiwan have rival claims.

Patricia Lourdes Viray (philstar.com) - May 3, 2018 - 11:15am

MANILA, Philippines — Beijing has quietly moved forward to dominating airspace control over the West Philippine Sea or the South China Sea as it deploys missile systems on its "big three" islands, a report confirmed.

CNBC reported that China quietly deployed anti-ship cruise missiles and surface-to-air missiles on Fiery Cross Reef, Mischief Reef and Subi Reef in the Spratly Islands.

These three features in the Spratly Islands are also being claimed by Manila.

This should be a REDLINE regardless
of our weakness.

Negotiating to a bully from a point of weakness will never bear fruit.

Sometimes sacrifices are needed in order to be heard and to make a point.

So where the heck is that Russian connection that they are bragging about..??

- (10) Anti Ship Shore batteries
- (10) S 300 Missile Systems
- (20-30) Tunguska AA tanks

^Are just a few of the Russian Defense equipments we can acquire ASAP n can be delivered quickly, in order to show that we mean business in protectng our Country and territories.

If you had been following the Philippine-Russian defense relations thread, you would realize that the current administration has already gotten these ff. items from Putin:

-Ural trucks
-AK-103 rifles

Plus other aid.

But as I said, discussions about Russian acquisitions should be on that other thread.

China: Missiles in Spratlys target no one
Patricia Lourdes Viray (philstar.com) - May 4, 2018 - 11:11am

MANILA, Philippines — Downplaying reports that Beijing has installed missile system in the Spratly Islands, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said that such deployment "targets no one."

CNBC earlier reported that Beijing has quietly deployed anti-ship cruise missiles and surface-to-air missiles on Fiery Cross Reef, Mischief Reef and Subi Reef in the West Philippine Sea or South China Sea.

Insisting indisputable sovereignty over the Spratly Islands in the contested waters, Beijing reiterated that the defense facilities were meant to "safeguard China's sovereignty and security."

What China is doing is what JAPAN did from after in 1930's. And our president kept maintaining silence. Ay, lawyer nga pala sya. A lawyer who does not understand and does not want to implement law. A Lawyer who sold the Philippines to China for his own pride.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying's Regular Press Conference on May 3, 2018

Q: According to the US media, China for the first time deployed missile system in the Nansha Islands. Can you confirm that?

A: China has indisputable sovereignty over the Nansha Islands and the adjacent waters. Our peaceful construction activities on the Nansha Islands, including the deployment of necessary national defense facilities, are meant to safeguard China's sovereignty and security, which is also the rights a sovereign state is entitled to. The relevant deployment targets no one. Anyone with no invasive intention will find no reason to worry about this. We hope that the relevant party could view this matter in an objective and calm way. I must stress that China is a big country in terms of trade, and also a staunch champion of regional peace and stability. We will continue to work with all countries to maintain peace and stability in the South China Sea.

How far can China’s long-range missiles reach in the South China Sea?
By: Mike Yeo   1 hour ago

MELBOURNE, Australia ― China’s deployment of long-range missiles to its artificial islands in the disputed South China Sea would further consolidate and enhance the country’s physical control over the region and further complicate the movement of American military assets through the area, according to an Asian maritime security expert.

Collin Koh, a research fellow at the Maritime Security Programme at Singapore’s S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, also called the deployment yet another indication that China is serious about ramping up activities on the disputed Spratly Islands.

He said he expects to see the future rotational deployment of high-powered assets like fighter jets and bombers to the air bases there, in time to come as part of China’s strategy of creeping control in the strategic waters.

MANILA - Malacañang on Friday aired concern over China’s reported deployment of missiles in the disputed South China Sea even as it downplayed its implications, citing the renewed friendship between Manila and Beijing.

“We are concerned with the reported China’s missile deployments over the contested areas in the West Philippine Sea,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a statement.
