This is a step by step approach by China, so what's next total closure of the entire WPS from non allies? If that's the case then we should all prepare for war! This is very dangerous indeed this is what China has become after tasting tremendous growth and wealth it grapples for more.

Palace aide says no permit needed to fish in high seas

MANILA, Philippines – Filipinos do not need to ask China’s permission to fish in the West Philippine Sea.

“I think that goes without saying, and we’ve done it in the past,” one of President Aquino’s spokespersons said Saturday in reaction to new Chinese restrictions on fishing in disputed portions of the South China Sea, which include the Philippines’ 327-kilometers exclusive economic zone.

China fires back at US for criticism on fishing curbs in South China Sea
Megha Rajagopalan, Reuters
January 10, 2014 10:41 PM

"China has the right and responsibility to regulate the relevant islands and reefs as well as non-biological resources" according to international and domestic law. For more than 30 years, China's relevant fisheries laws and regulations have been consistently implemented in a normal way, and have never caused any tension. If someone feels the need to say that technical amendments to local fisheries regulations implemented many years ago will cause tensions in the region and pose a threat to regional stability, then I can only say that if this does not stem from a lack of basic common sense, then it must be due to an ulterior motive."

- Hua Chunying, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman

How can you reason with people like this? Achieving peace is an uphill battle when you are dealing with an imbecile. Sadly, You are dealing with a whole bunch of them - the whole government. Tragically, that would make the opposite inevitable in your case.

Palace: Phl won’t accept China sea law

Quote:

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippines will not recognize China’s new fisheries regulation which encroaches on the country’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ) and on international waters, Malacañang said yesterday.

The Palace also assured local fishermen of protection if they venture into high seas covered by international laws.

“I think that goes without saying and we have done it in the past,” deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said over radio dzRB.

Vietnam, through Foreign Ministry spokesman Luong Thanh Nghi, also condemned Beijing’s new fisheries rule, calling it “illegal and invalid.”

“Vietnam demands that China abolish the above said erroneous acts, and practically contribute to the maintenance of peace and stability in the region,” he said.

Valte said Filipino fishermen have the right to operate in the high seas because “no one, under customary international law, not a single state can subject the high seas to its sovereignty.”

If they do that they'll be shooting themselves in the foot! (China will make a mistake that is harmful to it self)

I don't think they'll do it. The key was the US telling them that it is provocative and dangerous and they were furious as you see in the post of Hong before yours. The same thing happened to the Chinese passports and their boarding of ships they tried to implement last year. It never materialized.

Well, we'll see. The Chinese are becoming increasingly audacious every day this crisis passes, their audacity fueled by their own military supremacy in the region, or at least, their delusion of it.

Chinese troops to seize Zhongye Island back from the Philippines in 2014
POSTED BY CHANKAIYEE2 ⋅ JANUARY 11, 2014

The following report is a translation from Chinese media. The views do not necessarily reflect those of China Daily Mail.

Relying on US support, the Philippines is so arrogant as to announce in the New Year that it will increase its navy and air force deployment at Zhongye Island, a Chinese island that it has illegally occupied for years.

It will be an intolerable insult to China

According to experts, the Chinese navy has drawn a detailed combat plan to seize the island and the battle will be restricted within the South China Sea.

The battle is aimed at recovery of the island stolen by the Philippines from China.

There will be no invasion into Filipino territories.

A report in the Philippines Star confirmed the Philippines military buildup on the island.

The more impt. those FA-50s are going to be in the future. Not only are they going to be used for training but it actually has anti-shipping capability in the form of AGM-65G. Even the AIM-9L is more than enough for air patrols. Rules of engagement during peacetime won't allow casual use of BVR missiles anyway. So, all those people saying it's going to be useless and all we can do is to watch obviously do not know what they are saying. In fact, the FA-50s are most likely going to be our "workhorse" with the front-line MRFs being reserved for more impt. missions and reserved for actual battle or war.
