Perhaps the Chinese think they have a lead on the location of US subs in the South China Sea? Futile, given how quiet US subs are.

China deploys new anti-submarine aircraft to fringes of South China Sea
By: Mike Yeo, June 22, 2017 (Photo Credit: DigitalGlobe)
MELBOURNE, Australia — China has deployed its newest anti-submarine aircraft and stepped up unmanned aircraft deployments to Hainan island on the fringes of the South China Sea, according to satellite imagery obtained by Defense News.

Satellite photos taken on May 10 and May 20 by commercial satellite imagery company DigitalGlobe showed four Shaanxi Y-8Q turboprop aircraft with its distinctive magnetic anomaly detector boom parked on the ground at Lingshui Air Base in the southeastern part of China’s Hainan island.

The satellite pass from May 10 also showed three Harbin BZK-005 high-altitude, long-range UAVs at the base. This is the largest number of BZK-005s to have been seen at Lingshui since they were first noted in 2016. The drones have also previously been observed at the Chinese air base at nearby Woody Island, in the disputed Paracel Islands.

US Subs may be quiet, however, we/US must ont underestimate Chinese technology. Either they have been acquired from Russia, or these where stolen from their hacking to US. Note that J-20, and a Catamaran ship has extreme similarities to US Tech. Wat if source codes for radar systems hav also been stolen by them? It will be wrong to underestimate an opponent.

China reportedly threatens Vietnam into ending energy exploration in South China Sea
Nyshka Chandran,CNBC 41 minutes ago

Vietnam stopped a company from exploring for energy in contested waters of the South China Sea after taking threats from Beijing, the BBC reported early on Monday.

Talisman-Vietnam, a subsidiary of Spanish energy firm Repsol , commenced gas-drilling operations in an area about 400 kilometers off Vietnam's coast earlier this month, but Hanoi has since ordered Repsol to leave the zone, the BBC said, citing an unnamed source.

Last week, Beijing warned Hanoi that it would attack Vietnamese bases in the Spratly Islands if drilling continued, the BBC continued.

China Opens First Movie Theater On Disputed South China Sea Island
Shubham Kishore,International Business Times 12 hours ago

In another move to assert control over the South China Sea territory, Beijing opened a high-tech movie theater in Sansha, a city on the disputed Yongxing Island, also known as Woody Island.

More than 200 residents and soldiers on the island watched the Chinese movie, “The Eternity of Jio Yulu,” at the theater on Saturday, China’s state-owned Xinhua news agency reported. The report said the new cinema hall is equipped with all advanced projection equipment including the latest 4K digital projectors and 3D perforated screen.

“The cinema will show at least one film every day, so residents and soldiers on Yongxing Island can enjoy films simultaneously with moviegoers across the country," said Gu Xiaojing, general manager of Hainan Media Croup, which runs the cinema, was quoted as saying in the report.

I wish PH have the capacity to do the same against China as well.

They can and are able to do this if they want to, given the fact that they just share borders just a stones throw away..
Although Vietnam has the capacity to bite them back, calling Beijing's bluff would be a Suicide on their part and China is taking advantage of these situations.

Regarding PH, SCS EEZ Territories, they will have to travel a long way...

The Philippines will need BIG TIME Security like a Missile Shield of some sort, Anti ship and Anti Air Mobile shore based platforms + AIR POWER and Missile Equipped Warships if it want's to start OG Explo inside the PH-WPS Territories.

LET'S JUST HOPE ALL HIS PLANS (AFP Modernization) WILL COME TOGETHER.. :armywink:

Come to think of it.. I think I'm beginning to see what PDU30's game plan is... :patrioticpinoy:

Under this current administration, I don't exactly trust its appeasing stance toward China and its distrust towards US sources such as this think tank.

Philippines: No reports of island building in disputed sea prior to ASEAN meeting
By Patricia Lourdes Viray (philstar.com) | Updated August 11, 2017 - 3:13pm

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines on Friday stressed that it has not received reports of China's recent land reclamation activities in the South China Sea prior to the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting (AMM) in Manila.

The statement came after a Washington-based think tank released satellite imagery that Beijing has not stopped reclaiming features in the contested waters.

"While there have been land reclamation activities that have taken place in the Paracels in the previous months based on the AMTI (Asia Maritime Transparency Initiative) report, the same report did not indicate that such activity was taking place just prior to the AMM," the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said in a statement.

The department assured the public that such reports will be carefully studied, verified and handled accordingly.

Satellite images show Chinese ships near Pag-asa island: US think tank
ABS-CBN News

Posted at Aug 18 2017 01:40 PM | Updated as of Aug 18 2017 08:30 PM

MANILA (UPDATE) - Satellite images taken by an American think tank this month confirmed the presence of Chinese ships near Pag-asa island in the disputed South China Sea.

Images taken last August 13 by the Asia Maritime Transparency Initiative (AMTI) of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) showed 9 Chinese fishing vessels and 2 Chinese Navy ships near Pag-asa island, part of Kalayaan town in Palawan that is home to a military detachment and a village.

AMTI said Thursday it is impossible to know if the ships are affiliated with China's maritime militia, but it noted that at least 2 of the ships appeared to be fishing with nets in the water.

Photos show 11 Chinese ships around Pag-asa Island
By: Nikko Dizon - Reporter / @NikkoDizonINQ
Philippine Daily Inquirer / 07:25 AM August 20, 2017

New satellite pictures released by a US think tank provided photographic evidence of Supreme Court Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio’s warning against a Chinese invasion in Philippine territorial waters.

Amti said there were nine Chinese civilian and two government vessels near Pag-asa. It said there could possibly be more Chinese ships in the area which had not been captured by satellite pictures because of cloud cover.

“One possible explanation for the flotilla’s sudden and provocative appearance is that Beijing wanted to dissuade Manila from planned construction on Thitu,” Amti said, calling Pag-asa by its English name.

Amti said the Chinese vessels appeared in the area after the Philippine government announced plans to spend at least $32 million to upgrade facilities in Pag-asa, including a beaching ramp, desalination machines and “long overdue repairs to the islet’s crumbling runway.”
