Philippines says China rushing construction in disputed sea | AP - Yahoo! News
Quote:

Foreign Secretary Albert del Rosario said the Chinese construction is aimed at bolstering its claims to virtually the entire South China Sea. He called Beijing's claims "invalid and excessive and in violation of international law."

The Philippines and other governments which have territorial disputes with Beijing in the busy sea have been particularly concerned by massive Chinese land reclamation projects that have turned a number of previously submerged reefs in the Spratlys archipelago into artificial islands with buildings, runways and wharves.

US Admiral Says China 'Creating a Great Wall of Sand' in Sea

Associated Press | Mar 31, 2015 | by Rod McGuirk

CANBERRA, Australia — China is "creating a great wall of sand" through land reclamation in the South China Sea, causing serious concerns about its territorial intentions, the commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet said Tuesday.
Admiral Harry Harris Jr. told a naval conference in Australia that competing territorial claims by several nations in the South China Sea are "increasing regional tensions and the potential for miscalculation."

"But what's really drawing a lot of concern in the here and now is the unprecedented land reclamation currently being conducted by China," he said.

Yeah and what are gonna do about it. China government is ignoring protest and they will gonna get what they want, South China Sea today, tommorrow the World, we all see this coming from history. So much for the environmentalist where are they anyway?
Modernization should prioritize:

Patrol Ships with air/sub/ship detection, fast & lightly armed for Navy.
Surface Attack Aircraft with anti ship/sub attack capability for Airforce.
SAM with Radars, Close AA battery capable of shooting ground targets too for Army.
This triangle defense will work together and protect us from external threats.

China mounts detailed defense of South China Sea reclamation

By Sui-Lee Wee and Ben Blanchard

BEIJING (Reuters) - China on Thursday sketched out plans for the islands it is creating in the disputed South China Sea, saying they would be used for military defense as well as to provide civilian services that would benefit other countries.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying told a news briefing that the reclamation and building work in the Spratly archipelago of the South China Sea was needed partly because of the risk of typhoons in an area with a lot of shipping that is far from land.

The work involved "fairly massive" reclamation in the Spratley archipelago and upgrades to facilities in the Paracel Islands, he said.

The building in the Spratlys included better berthing space for ships, as well as what was presumed to be an airfield on the Fiery Cross Reef, Locklear, head of the U.S. Pacific Command, said in testimony to the House Armed Services Committee.

China building airstrip on Kagitingan Reef

Reuters
WASHINGTON - Recent satellite images show China has begun building its first airstrip in contested territory in the Spratly Islands in the South China Sea and may be working on another, a leading defense publication reported on Thursday.

IHS Jane's Defense Weekly said the images provided by Airbus Defence and Space taken on March 23 showed the construction work on reclaimed parts of Fiery Cross Reef (Kagitingan Reef) in the archipelago, territory China contests with the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei and Taiwan.

MANILA - The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has more proof of the “aggressive” Chinese reclamation in the disputed areas in the South China Sea, a move that it said should worry not just claimant-states but the entire world.

AFP Chief of Staff Gregorio Pio Catapang will reveal aerial photos on Monday morning, ahead of the opening of the Balikatan exercises between the Philippines and the United States.

totally agree, I sure hope that the only thing the govt is waiting for is the ITLOS ruling which will clearly specify the lines of demarcation. once the ruling is handed down, the bully cannot retaliate for our physical enforcement since we are enforcing withing ITLOS approved areas as belonging to ours.
However, if the govt still does nothing after the ITLOS ruling then not only were they wasting the money spent on high-powered american lawyers, we will lose the respect of other countries for not standing up, and the govt will be violating the constitution's provision that the citizens as represented by the govt is to uphold the sovereignty and patrimony of the country.
if the bully retaliates to our physical enforcement in our internationally recognized areas then it is much much easier for our allies to come to our aid and it is close to impossible for the bully to justify their retaliation. This is the reason why the bully was screaming and intimidating us when we brought the dispute to the united nations as represented by UNCLOS/ITLOS.
