Don't vote for Justin. He'll just let the budget balance itself. And Mulcair is a populist dickhead.

Obama Keystone Decision Caught in Undertow of Canadian Election

Canada’s election in October has become yet another event shaping the seven-year saga of the Keystone XL pipeline, one that may lead the Obama administration to delay announcing a decision to approve or reject the $8 billion project.

Putting a decision on hold would give the U.S. and Canada a chance to reset a strained relationship, said David Wilkins, a former U.S. ambassador to Canada. On the other hand, a decision in the midst of Canada’s 11-week election campaign could be seen as political interference.

In other news, since it seems that the longer election campaign and all negative news on the Duffy trial are starting to affect the polls on Harper and the Tories, the Liberals have decided to focus their efforts against the NDP:

Trailing in polls, Canada opposition Liberals attack main rivals

OTTAWA (Reuters) - Canada's once-popular opposition Liberals, who are trailing in third place ahead of an Oct 19 election, shifted their fire to the first-place New Democratic Party on Wednesday as the two center-left rivals battle to defeat the ruling Conservatives.
Liberal leader Justin Trudeau said the NDP, which has a narrow lead in recent opinion polls, was misleading voters with promises to increase spending while balancing the budget.
The Liberals and NDP are both battling to win over center-left voters to defeat Prime Minister Stephen Harper, whose Conservatives are seeking a rare fourth consecutive term after nine years in power.
Vote-splitting between the Liberals and NDP helped the Conservatives win the last election, in 2011.

Justin Trudeau with his usual fear-mongering about a law that's supposed to protect all Canadian citizens:

Justin Trudeau vows to repeal '2-tiered' citizenship law

In an accompanying news release, Trudeau said his government would repeal the Conservative government's controversial Strengthening Canadian Citizenship Act, saying it "devalues Canadian citizenship by creating two classes of citizenship."
"Liberals will guarantee that all Canadians' fundamental rights are respected as guided by the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms," the statement said.
The act became law in June 2014. While several elements of the law remain controversial, a provision that came into effect in May of this year expands the grounds on which the federal government can strip dual nationals of their Canadian citizenship, even if they were born in Canada.

As the marathon federal election campaign passes its halfway mark, it appears that Stephen Harper’s Conservatives are losing support while Tom Mulcair’s New Democrats have pulled into the lead. And Justin Trudeau’s Liberals are close behind the NDP.
According to the new nightly tracking from Nanos Research -- conducted for CTV News and The Globe and Mail -- if an election were held over the Labour Day weekend, it would be a two-way race between the NDP and the Liberals.
The latest survey shows each party’s support at:
• NDP: 32.7 per cent (up 2.3 pertage points from last week)
• Conservatives: 26.2 per cent (down 2.3 points from last week)
• Liberals: 30.8 per cent (up 0.6 percentage points from last week)

Federal leaders' debate: 5 things to watch for tonight
Stephen Harper, Tom Mulcair and Justin Trudeau to square off in Calgary for debate on economy

CBC News Posted: Sep 17, 2015 11:00 AM ET Last Updated: Sep 17, 2015 2:00 PM ET

If the economy is the No. 1 issue on the minds of most Canadians, then the stakes are high for tonight's debate.

Voters, either through watching the event, reading the news stories or viewing the video clips, could very well make up their minds based on the performances of Conservative Party Leader Stephen Harper, NDP Leader Tom Mulcair and Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau.

Canadian PM, on campaign offensive, bashes rivals over economy
Thu Sep 17, 2015 10:56pm EDT

By David Ljunggren and Randall Palmer

OTTAWA (Reuters) - Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, taking the offensive after an election campaign marred by setbacks and missteps, told a televised debate on Thursday that his rivals' plans for increased taxes and deficits would badly damage the economy.

With polls showing a tight three-way race ahead of the Oct. 19 vote, Harper needs to break away from his two center-left opponents if his Conservatives are to extend their near 10-year term in office.

In contrast to debates in past elections, where Harper was the main target, his rivals spent as much time attacking each other as they did taking jabs at the prime minister.

Standing inside one of the country’s foremost symbols of its openness to the world – the so-called “Gateway to Canada” – Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau said Sunday he’d consider airlifting Syrian refugees in order to fulfill his pledge to welcome 25,000 asylum seekers by Jan. 1.

Hundreds of boisterous supporters came to hear him speak at Halifax’s Pier 21, the former immigration depot that welcomed over one million immigrants and refugees between 1928 and 1971.

“For me, it’s always a humbling and an incredibly deep privilege to be able to stand here at Pier 21,” he said on a stage overlooking the Halifax port.

“It’s a place that touches me deeply.”
