Bandila, April 23, 2015, Huwebes http://mobile.abs-cbnnews.com/video/nation/04/23/15/carpio-strengthen-defense-instead-relying-us/ ------------------ This is very true. Finally, someone with a real sense. Kudos to Justice Carpio for sighting these issues, We need more people like you, hope you get all the support you need from the Filipino people, to rally behind you in your plain and simple, no brainer solution to our Country's territorial problems, unlike what other people in the govt, who are all mostly just turning a blind eye on these much technically grave issues, that are "Threats to National Security of the Country. They would rather concentrate on "Malampaya scam", "pabaon" again, which technically the reason why there's a scam or extra money to be stolen instead of using the money to spend and built our armed forces capabilities.. not to mention the flavor of the month, BBL. To me these are all distractions planned and placed in order to cover the real issues.. the art of Sun tzu at work. For a long time, I always try to give the US the benefit of the doubt, even up to now, but just like what Marcos said a long time ago, it goes something like: “We taught and we have learned our lessons well that we should never build our defenses on the shifting sands of mutual defense agreements, and it is time we build it on firmer foundations. For while we have faith in our allies, we should not be completely dependent upon them. For while we believe in their courage and their capability, they also have their own national interest that may sometime conflict with ours. For in matters of defense the guarantee of friends can be modified to suit their needs and interest, as the history of nations vividly show.” -Pres. Ferdinand E Marcos Maybe if Marcos were alive today, he might sing as a song "Di na natuto." PH will be forever be like this if we continue walking in this path, we really must learn how to stand on our own and only then we can reap what is truly ours. The US will still be US, they have their own interests, for or against us. Justice Carpio is right and everyone else in this forum know that the right and proper approach to these dilemmas is for us to arm and defend our own without relying on our allies for help. Of course we still need their help but for self defense, we cannot just put the burden on our allies. We need to stand on our own and acquire all the necessary equipment we need. We dont have to purchase a lot of it, what we only need is enough, enough to defend our own. |

Didn't your supreme court rule that certain funds - a substantial amount - (I forgot what it was called) couldn't be used for your AFP modernisation? It would probably help if they overturned that decision. And they also could hasten their ruling on whether the EDCA is constitutional or not. Why do they have to wait till later this year?? Then, you will know what to do next rather than keep things in limbo. Ruling against it now could force your military to start relying on themselves. Edited by Hong Nam, Apr 25 2015, 06:49 PM.

@hong, Bro, Maybe there are things they see like technicalities, constitutional matters etc. that us ordinary people don't see or understand. At least there's someone trying to scrutinize everything, making sure all is fair and just for the Country's interest. |

it is also much easier for the U.S. to help us if they notice we are serious with our military modernization. This is just common sense. Who wants to help someone who is not serious helping himself ? God helps those who help themselves. Frankly, foreigners may not yet know this, there are many filipinos who rely for doleouts or hand-me-downs from richer relatives and when richer relatives do not give them what they want they talk bad about richer relatives. now you see why, there are also filipinos who bash the U.S. if they do not give us more equipment. personally, i do not like and get irritated helping someone who is behaving like a beggar and not trying his best to improve himself. God helps those who help themselves. Edited by pachador, Apr 26 2015, 12:16 AM.
