3:13 PM | Saturday, April 4th, 2015

DIGOS CITY – Police authorities in Davao del Sur were investigating the motive of Good Friday’s attack by armed men on the house of Malalag town Vice Mayor Anselmo Mejias Sr.

Mejias was injured in the 6:56 p.m. attack that also saw two of the attackers dead and another one severely injured.

Senior Supt. Michael John Dubria, Davao del Sur police director, said the vice mayor was inside his house at Purok Lumbia in Barangay Poblacion when three armed men arrived on foot and immediately opened fire.

DAVAO DEL SUR -- Two siblings were killed after they were allegedly shot by a local government official in Davao del Sur last Friday.

The victims were identified as Romy Peñafiel and Roger Peñafiel.

Based on investigation, Malalag, Davao del Sur Vice Mayor Anselmo Mejias, Sr. was watering his plants when the brothers arrived and fired at him.

Mejias sustained a gunshot wound on his leg. He argued that he only retaliated after the two victims shot him.

A certain Raymond Alipayo was also injured in the incident. He said it was Mejias who first fired at the victims.

Authorities said Mejias was one of the suspects in the killing of one of the victims' brothers last March.

Investigation on the incident is ongoing. -- report from Claire Cornelio, ABS-CBN News Southern Mindanao

only in the Philippines when you can see a sitting politician being a suspect in a murder case and is not jailed for the crime while in litigation(or is it?) as compared to ordinary citizen rotting in jail while waiting for the verdict of their case....

There is no such things as what you have said Mr. Grammy 32. There are circumstances or legal requirements to be considered before a suspect/or accused can be detained under our criminal justice system. In the case in question,
it is probably that the Vice Mayor has posted bail while the case is being heard on the merits by the court. We cannot generalize similarity of all cases because they are treated according to it's merits. If others are already
rotting in jail, they are already sentenced prisoners or those who are serving their respective penalties relevant to the crime committed or those who opted not to post bail and remain detained pending resolution of their cases
by the court.
