With Roxas, about 16 police officials stood for a moment in front of the casket and simultaneously raised their right hands to give her a salute.

“We gave her the highest honor for uniformed personnel. All police officials here gave Mae-Mae (Kristel) a hand salute to recognize her sacrifices,” Roxas told reporters.

While doing volunteer work for the Catholic Relief Services’ organizing team for Pope Francis’ visit to Tacloban City on January 17, an accident claimed Padasas’ life so soon.
Strong winds dislodged a steel scaffold, which carried heavy speakers that amplified Pope Francis’ words during Mass, and hit Kristel, killing her instantly.

Roxas and the police officials gave cash assistance of undisclosed amount to the victim’s mother, Judy, who just returned to the country from Hong Kong to mourn her only daughter’s death.
