this is a non issue at all. it applies to all. poachers and trespassers should be caught and sent to jail. it doesnt matter if they are chinese. the fact that they are caught inside our territory with an illegal cargo. hence they were apprehended. end of discussion

is that hard to understand??? no need for translators :brrt:

tapos, sabay nyo nang i-deport yang mga pinoy na nag bebenta sa mga intsik ng endangered species sa laot

No shots fired, no premeditation or provocation in Chinese poachers' arrest - PH maritime police
Beverly Natividad, News5
May 8, 2014

MANILA - Contrary to Beijing's claims, no shots were fired by Philippine authorities who apprehended 11 Chinese poachers caught off Palawan on May 6, and the maritime police strictly followed standard protocols for apprehension. The arrest, moreover, was not meant to provoke tension with China because it followed a five-day operation against illegal fishing after residents tipped off authorities about the flurry of activities by foreign vessels in southern Palawan.

Last May 6, the maritime police tailed a local vessel and saw its crew in the act of transferring endangered species to a foreign vessel, which turned out to be Chinese. Authorities apprehended both vessels.

Philippine police said the boat and its crew were seized for hunting sea turtles, which are protected under local laws.

Hua said the Philippines' actions were illegal as they had entered Chinese waters to seize the boat and its crew."We once more demand the Philippines immediately release them unconditionally ... China reserves the right to take further action," she said, without elaborating

yes, thats true and has been ongoing for a while now. previously, when the PN had few assets specially in the 1990s, the bully fishermen used to harvest marine species even closer to shore, but now that PN/PCG/PNP police operates at a higher tempo with more assets, the bully fishermen have contracted the harvesting to local fishermen-usually moro fishermen in the southern end of palawan - to harvest the species then meet the bully at a planned meeting point offshore where the local fishermen will transfer the marine species to the bully fishing boat.
in addition to this, there are bully migrant businessmen/merchants in palawan serving as "lookouts", bribe greasers/facilitators ,etc for the bully govt.

Philippines Detains Chinese Fishermen in South China Sea
Simone Orendain
Last updated on: May 07, 2014 7:14 AM

MANILA - Philippine National Police officials say authorities have arrested a group of fishermen in a Chinese vessel in contested waters of the South China Sea.

Philippine National Police Maritime Group Chief Noel Vargas says officers of his unit in Palawan province arrested Chinese and Filipino fishermen Wednesday at Half-Moon Shoal.

"There are locals, the Filipino fishermen involved and there is a fishing boat with a Chinese crew also involved,. So the PNP team apprehended this crew together with the boats."

Vargas says both the Philippine and Chinese vessels had close to 500 sea turtles in them. Catching sea turtles is banned in the Philippines.

Vargas says the 15 people arrested would be charged once they arrived in Palawan province. He says the trip back to Palawan is taking longer than expected because one of the vessels "is broken" and needs to be towed. Vargas says details are still sketchy on the circumstances that led to their arrest.

China to take 'further actions' on arrested Sino fishermen
By: Pots de Leon, InterAksyon.com
May 12, 2014 5:43 PM

MANILA - A foreign ministry spokesperson is said to have announced at a press conference held in China that the Chinese government will soon take further actions regarding the arrest of Chinese fishermen caught in possession of hundreds of marine turtles in Hasa-Hasa Shoal last week.

Hasa-Hasa Shoal of the Kalayaan Island Group is situated within the Philippines' exclusive economic zone (EEZ).

The Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying added that the Philippine action to detain their fishermen are "illegal and invalid" and that "China will reserve the right to take further actions," Hua said in a transcript posted on its official web site.

Hua also reiterated China's call for the Philippine government to release their fishermen "unconditionally".

"We urge once again the Philippine side to release unconditionally the Chinese boat and its crew, protect the safety and property of Chinese citizens and refrain from taking similar actions in the future," Hua added.

Philippines charges Chinese caught in disputed sea
Associated Press
JIM GOMEZ

MANILA, Philippines (AP) - The Philippines charged nine Chinese fishermen Monday with poaching more than 500 endangered sea turtles at a disputed South China Sea shoal despite China's demand for them to be immediately freed.

Prosecutor Allen Ross Rodriguez said two other arrested Chinese were minors and would be sent home. The nine Chinese have been charged with violating two provisions of the Philippine fisheries code, including illegally harvesting 555 endangered turtles, before a special environmental court in western Palawan province.

Five Filipino fishermen were caught separately near Half Moon Shoal, about 110 kilometers (70 miles) from Palawan province, with about 70 turtles in their boat. Criminal complaints have also been filed against them for illegally catching the turtles, but they sought the services of Filipino lawyers and were not immediately indicted.

The fishermen face up to 20 years in prison and fines of up to $2,300 each. They can post bail but cannot not leave the Philippines because of immigration law violations after failing to show travel documents.

The turtles recovered alive by police have been returned to the sea, officials said, but TV footages of the dead turtles, some of them apparently butchered and lying in pools of blood on the fishing boat's deck, have sparked condemnations.
