imo, these chinese fishermen are not part of the fleet they usually unleash. they only called help when they were caught. theyre more of the illegal poacher type. unfortunately, seems they could be in cahoots with some fil fishermen who wants easy money. they dont care whether the turtles they are catching are endangered or not. as some news articles indicate, they usually do their deal in the high seas to avoid detection. unfortunately for them there are SBUs patrolling the area congrats to the SBU who apprehended these good-for-nothing folks and shame on you pinoys who deal with these "magnanakaws" btw, is there any way that the penalties be upgraded? be stiffer? like confiscation of their boats and gear plus imprisonment even if they pay the fines? upgrade the fines as well, maybe like $1 million per crew? then after a few apprehensions, we can buy more bigger and faster boats to chase after these robbers. the poachers dont care about the fines and penalties as their govt is backing them. maybe with upgraded fines / punishment / penalties, they think twice about entering our territory Edited by dewey, May 8 2014, 09:45 AM.

US voices concern on Chinese poachers in West Philippine Sea (philstar.com) | Updated May 8, 2014 - 9:29am MANILA, Philippines — The United States expressed concern over the latest maritime incident in the disputed West Philippine Sea which involved Chinese fishing vessels carrying endangered marine wildlife. In a press briefing, State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said they have seen reports that Philippine police have seized Chinese and Filipino fishing boats carrying illegally harvested sea turtles near Half Moon Shoal, an area very close to Palawan and locally known as Hasa-Hasa shoal. "Given the United States works with the international community to combat wildlife trafficking, we are concerned that the vessels appear to be engaged in direct harvest of endangered species of sea turtles," Psaki said. The American official, however, refused to weigh in beyond the environmental issue of the recent incident. She urged China and the Philippines to "work together diplomatically" to resolve the matter. The Philippines said Wednesday authorities seized a Chinese fishing boat with 11 crewmembers and carrying more or less 500 turtles and a local vessel more or less 40 turtles. Philippine maritime police Chief Superintendent Noel Vargas said the Chinese and Filipino fishermen will face charges of violating Philippine laws prohibiting catches of endangered sea turtles. The Department of Foreign Affairs said authorities seized the fishing boat and arrested its crew to enforce maritime laws and to uphold sovereign rights over the country's exclusive economic zone. "Relevant authorities in Palawan will address the case in a just, humane and expeditious manner," the DFA said in a statement. China, which earlier said via state media that officials lost contact with the 11 fishermen, demanded the immediate release of the Chinese boat and its crew. Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying said the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines have lodged representations with the Philippine side. She said China has "indisputable sovereignty over the contested shoal, which is claimed by the Asian giant as part of the Nansha island chain, known internationally as the Spratly Islands. <snipped> Hua warned the Philippines against taking any "further provocative action." |

PNP Public Information Office Twitter account MANILA, Philippines — Authorities on Thursday released the photos of the Chinese fishing vessel intercepted in the West Philippine Sea. The vessel called Qiongquionghai 09063 was seized by the Philippine authorities on Tuesday near Half Moon shoal locally known as Hasa-Hasa shoal, which is about 60 nautical miles from mainland Palawan. Eleven crewmembers on board were arrested and about 500 sea turtles were also confiscated from the vessel. A local fishing boat carrying five Filipinos was also intercepted. The released photo showed some of the seized marine wildlife. ![]() The latest spat in the increasing tensions in the disputed South China Sea prompted the Chinese Foreign Ministry to urge the Philippines to stop making "provocative" acts. But Malacañang defended the Philippine authorities who nabbed the Chinese poachers, saying they were only performing their duty. "The action taken by the Philippine National Police yesterday in apprehending a foreign fishing vessel and a local fishing boat is in accordance with its duty to enforce environmental protection and wildlife conservation laws while upholding Philippine sovereign rights over our Exclusive Economic Zone," Presidential Communication Operations Office head Herminio Coloma Jr. said in a televised press briefing. He reiterated the statement of the Department of Foreign Affairs that the case will be addressed in "a just, humane and expeditious manner." The United States has aired its concern over the environmental implication of the incident. |

That's a very provocative statement mate. Now don't you go provoking them. You wouldn't want any more provocations from them. As they think you always act provocatively and provocativeness isn't a very nice quality in a person. |

Who would have thought that it only takes local PNP Maritime squad to arrest and capture those "Chinese Poachers" "Trawlers", "Intruders".. Maybe they can try apprehend "CMS White ships", with the help of PCG, PN combi, next time they venture inside our EEZ territories illegally and tow n impound them to Ulugan bay Puerto Princesa PN/ US base.

Gammy is right! 3 out of 4 use the root word "provocative". I think it's time they find a new word to use.
Cheers to The Provocative Republic of China!!!

PH Govt. should tell China to "Practice what you Preach!" learn to obey and respect their Neighbors rights, Sovereignty, the International Laws, Rules, Norms and so on.
Who knows, maybe the US is trying to find out if Beijing will bite the bullet? When they do, this could also mean a chance for US to preempt China's Economy from overtaking their's, in case if trouble arises in SCS- WPS. Enter Sanctions ala "Russia/ Ukraine Crisis" or much worse the sinking of their beloved "Shi Lang" Carrier group together with their mad plans and ambitions by just through "limited" Naval showdown with a few PN ships and just half of the 7th fleet??? Only if they try to continue with their favourite PROVOCATIVE actions..China is on the losing end here, whatever they do, they don't have the means to justify all their illegal claims, acts, except through by way of coercion, bullying their small neighbors by force.
