They are upset because there is nothing they can do but to dislodge those squatters! Hahaha. It really upsets their plan of securing the Reed Bank and the rest of the potential drilling close by. I believe further East of Ayugin is Sabina Shoal and there will be drilling in the area within the next few months. That hampers their cabbage strategy. Let us see what their next intimidation will be.As I have said let us be cool, calm and collected. Let the Chicoms fire the first shot. Let us go on our business ways of going around supplying and checking our troops. "Manigas sila" (tough) Edited by Santi Kampilan, Jun 21 2013, 11:00 PM.

The sooner our political leadership wakes up and accepts the grim reality of the bully's vewpoint, the sooner , the political leadership can accelerate and enlarge the AFP's arms buildup to be decently credible. China cannot accept Philippines' seizure of Ren'ai Reef: FM spokeswoman Xinhua | 2013-6-21 17:37:12 By Agencies The Philippines' seizure of Ren'ai Reef(Ayungin shoal) in the South China Sea is unacceptable to China, a Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said Friday. Spokeswoman Hua Chunying said at a regular press briefing that China's determination and will to safeguard its national sovereignty is unswerving. China has indisputable sovereignty over the Nansha Islands and its surrounding waters, which include Ren'ai Reef, she said. The comments came after a Philippine security official said Wednesday that the country had deployed a fresh batch of marines and supplies to Ren'ai Reef. The spokeswoman urged the Philippines to cease all provocative acts and work together with China to safeguard peace and stability in the South China Sea. |

Second Thomas Shoal Likely the Next Flashpoint in the South China Sea http://www.jamestown.org/programs/chinabrief/single/?tx_ttnews%5Btt_news%5D=41054&cHash=a7d10c92688430f1274bb09b95b18bcf#.UcWzvtDn_Dc June 21, 2013 01:23 AM Age: 14 hrs By: Bonnie S. Glaser, Alison Szalwinski Second Thomas Shoal, a low tide coral reef located 105 nautical miles from the Philippines Palawan Island, is likely to become the next flashpoint in the South China Sea. The shoal which is 15 kilometers long and five kilometers wide and is known as Ayungin in the Philippines and Renai Reef in China—is a strategic gateway to deposits of coveted oil and natural gas in Reed Bank and is claimed by the Philippines to be within its 200 mile exclusive economic zone (Taipei Times, May 30). In early May, Manila lodged an official protest over the patrols around Second Thomas Shoal of two Chinese surveillance ships and a naval frigate that it charged were blocking Philippine ships from delivering supplies to troops deployed at the shoal (Manila Times, June 2). In 1999, the Philippines deliberately ran aground the BRP Sierra Madre, a World War II-era landing transport ship, on the shoal to establish a presence on the island; the ship has served as a Philippine base hosting approximately 10 marines since that time. Manila claims that ships sent to the shoal carry provisions for the troops and that it has no intention to build further infrastructure on the shoal (Malaya, June 5; Philippine Star, May 22; May 17). |

World View: China and Philippines Close to Confrontation in South China Sea http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Peace/2013/06/21/22-Jun-13-World-View-China-and-Philippines-close-to-new-confrontation-in-South-China-Sea John J. Xenakis 22 Jun 2013, 11:15 AM PDT China appears to be on the military path to seize the Ayungin Shoal / Renai Reef from the Philippines, following the military strategy that was stunningly successful last year in seizing the Scarborough Shoal from the Philippines. The Chinese sent a fleet of warships into the region to challenge Filipino ships. At one point, the Philippine Navy had two ships facing off against 90 Chinese vessels. The United States brokered a negotiated settlement where both sides would withdraw their vessels. The Philippines complied, but the Chinese reneged and instead took complete control of an island historically the territory of the Philippines. The United States expressed outrage at the Chinese subterfuge but took no other action. Chinese experts praised the operation as an adroit exercise of Chinese power and are now encouraging the government to follow a similar strategy to seize the Ayungin Shoal. They are counting on the fact that the U.S. will, once again, take no action except to express outrage. However, the Filipinos will not fall for a similar subterfuge this time and there may be a military confrontation, even though the Philippine navy is substantially inferior to the emerging blue-water Chinese navy. Manila keeps eye on Beijing in South China Sea 2013/07/14 MANILA – The Philippines is keeping vigilant in light of China’s “clear intent” to beef up its military presence in the South China Sea, particularly in a shoal located inside the Philippines’ 200-nautical-mile exclusive economic zone, according to classified Philippine government papers seen by Kyodo News. . . . Since February, the Philippine military has noted an increase in sightings of Chinese maritime law enforcement vessels and Chinese navy ships in the vicinity of Second Thomas Shoal, about 105 nautical miles off the coast of the Philippines’ westernmost island province of Palawan. . . . Philippine security officials have vowed to protect the shoal at any cost. China’s aggressive presence in the area, the Philippine government paper said, has prompted Manila to draw up a “contingency plan” for fear that China might resort to a blockade or even seizure of the shoal by force. The contingency plan includes an “urgent upgrading” of the military’s equipment, naval and air assets that will boost the military’s capability in that part of the disputed sea. “We do not want a repeat of Scarborough Shoal,” the document said, referring to China’s occupation last year of the shoal, a large coral reef located 124 nautical miles off the coast of Luzon Island, the main island of the Philippines. AFP chief confirms illegal activities of Chinese fishers in Ayungin By: Jaime Sinapit, InterAksyon.com August 28, 2013 6:09 PM MANILA, Philippines - A case of state-backed poaching? Chinese Navy and maritime surveillance ships have been seen escorting Chinese fishing boats carrying out illegal activities in the Ayungin Reef in Kalayaan Island Group, Palawan, Armed Forces Chief of Staff Gen. Emmanuel Bautista has confirmed. The illegal activities have been going on despite the presence of a Philippine Marines detachment in the area, something Beijing has consistently protested, claiming Ayungin is part of its territory. “We continue to maintain a detachment at the Ayungin [Reef] and we also observed the continuous presence of Chinese Maritime Surveillance (CMS) ships in the vicinity of the [reef] ranging from two to five miles away,” Bautista said at the Manila Overseas Press Club (MPOC) forum Tuesday night at the Intercontinental Hotel in Makati City. http://www.interaksyon.com/article/69567/afp-chief-confirms-illegal-activities-of-chinese-fishers-in-ayungin |
