USS Wasp Amphibious Assault ship? is USN retiring one of this might Amphibious Assault ship? Also this is better than possible acquisition of Spain's Aircraft Carrier...
Nice to dream but, I doubt if the Philippines can or have the will to afford it. It will not be prudent nor wise.

Philippine Activity on Ren'ai Reef Draws Chinese Caution

http://www.globaltimes.cn/content/783645.shtml#.UZ-zm9Dn_Dc

Global Times | 2013-5-23 0:13:01
By Chang Meng and Qiu Yongzheng

Chinese navy and marine surveillance forces are closely monitoring activities conducted by the Philippines on a vessel stranded on the Ren'ai Reef in the South China Sea, a source close to the matter told the Global Times. The Philippines filed a protest with the Chinese embassy in Manila Tuesday that the recent presence of a Chinese warship and two marine surveillance vessels near the reef was "illegal and proactive."

Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Hong Lei responded Wednesday that the Ren'ai Reef is part of China's Nansha Islands, and that China has indisputable sovereignty over them and their adjacent waters, adding that Chinese ships are entitled to regularly patrol there.

The Philippines sent three military vessels on May 9 after spotting the Chinese ships. The source also told the Global Times that the Philippine vessels carried a large amount of construction materials to repair a worn-out warship that has been stranded there since May 9, 1999 due to an alleged leak at the bottom, adding that the country has been sending garrison soldiers to gain de facto control to the reef and refused to withdraw the ship.

PH Heightens Naval Patrol in Ayungin

http://manilastandardtoday.com/2013/05/25/ph-heightens-naval-patrol-in-ayungin/

By Francisco Tuyay | Posted on May. 25, 2013 at 12:02am

The Philippine Navy dispatched two ships on Friday in a Philippine-occupied territory in Spratlys in an effort to increase its patrol presence in the face of the continued encroachment of Chinese vessels within the countrys 200-autical mile, exclusive economic zone.At the same time, the Navy likewise sent provisions to military detachments stationed within the Kalayaan Island Group in Spratlys, a group of islands which is comprised of seven islets and three reefs.

The Navy ordered the deployment of the patrol ships to monitor the reported presence of a Chinese warship and two fishing vessels in Ayungin.A highly-placed source from the Navy declined to name the two ships, but confirmed that they were moving towards Spratlys. The ships, the source said, sailed from their home port in Fort San Felipe in Cavite City. The China frigate was last seen by navy surveillance planes on May 14, at five nautical miles or eight kilometers from Ayungin, but recent reports had indicated that the warship was now only three nautical miles near the reef.

Gazmin, Chinese envoy hold talks to ease tensions over Ayungin boat sightings
By: Jaime Sinapit, Interaksyon.com
May 29, 2013 5:20 PM

MANILA, Philippines – Amid rising tension caused by more boat sightings by either side in past days in the West Philippine Sea (WPS), Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin and Chinese Ambassador Ma Keqing met at Camp Aguinaldo Wednesday, vowing to step up “cooperation” and “exchanges” this year.

In an ambush interview, Gazmin said the Chinese side appeared alarmed that Philippine military boats near Ayungin Reef, where Chinese vessels have been sighted the past three weeks, might have been there because Manila is building new structures on the site, one of three reefs and seven islets that compose the municipality of Kalayaan Island Group (KIG) in Palawan.

Gazmin said he assured Ambassador Ma no structures were being built, and that the boats were there to re-supply the Filipino soldiers assigned in the area.

For his part, the Navy Flag Officer in Command, Vice Admiral Jose Luis Alano said they will not pull out the Marines from Ayungin.

“As far as we are concerned the re-provision will be going on to be able to sustain our people who are deployed in western Philippines,” he said.

“[We have] to ensure that we will be able to provide the necessary facilities for the safety and habitation of our personnel, particularly [those] deployed in hazardous and difficult areas, and this is one of the things that we are trying to do.”

Referring to the Navy’s regular sovereignty patrols in the West Philippine Sea, Alano stressed,“The ship is always an extension of the territory of a nation. It flies the national flag from sunrise to sunset.”

Palace: China not in a position to tell us what to do in Ayungin Shoal

“They will not be in any position to dictate what we do with what properly belongs to the country,” deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said at a briefing.

Valte added that the government has even asked China to leave the shoal, located in the West Philippine Sea, as it is located within the country’s continental shelf.

“At least from the point of view of our government, we have repeatedly asked them to leave. We have also made the necessary representation through the proper channels, we keep reiterating the need for them to leave given that that particular area belongs to this country,” she said.

Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin earlier denied reports that the Philippine ship en route to the Ayungin Shoal was deployed for construction purposes. He said the BRP Sierra Madre was going to replenish food and water supplies of the Filipino soldiers stationed there.

Manila Monitoring Chinese Shoal Moves

http://www.janes.com/products/janes/defence-security-report.aspx?ID=1065979766&channel=defence

By Michael Cohen and James Hardy
6/3/2013

A Philippine military spokesman told IHS Jane's on 30 May that its navy was monitoring 17 Chinese-flagged fishing vessels near a Philippine-held reef in the South China Sea close to scene of alleged harassment of a Philippine vessel by Chinese paramilitary vessels."Of the 17 vessels, 10 were seen fishing [and] the rest transited through the area" near the Ayungin Shoal (Second Thomas Reef), said Major Ramon Zagala, chief of the Philippine Armed Forces Public Affairs Office.

The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs filed a formal diplomatic complaint with China after a 17 May incident in which China Marine Surveillance (CMS) vessels allegedly harassed a small Philippine-flagged inter-island ferry. Philippine officials said the CMS vessels came within 100 feet of the local government ferry, which supplies the small fishing village on Kalayaan (Pag-Asa) Island.Colonel Edgard Arevalo, navy spokesman for West Philippine Sea issues, said no additional Chinese ships have been sighted except for two CMS vessels that arrived near Ayungin Shoal on the weekend of 25-26 May.

I really hate it when people don't read back.

Mister, how do you suppose we should do, send our ships and be blown to kingdom come?

I have repeated this statement many times in person, and this might be the first time I'll say it here;

WE.WILL.NOT.GIVE.CHINA.A.REASON.FOR.WAR.

Shameful it may be, it is better than loosing all of the limited pieces we have for nothing. Your anger is not misplaced, dear forumer, but the reason most probably is.
