CHINA THREATENS TO SINK BRP SIERA MADRE
IN RESPONSE TO COURT RULING ON SOUTH CHINA SEA

July 8, 2016

China 'could tow away or sink' the BRP Siera Madre in response to the upcoming Philippine legal case against China at the Hague, State-run Global Times said in strongly-worded editorials on Friday.

"If the US and the Philippines act on impulse and carry out flagrant provocation,
China will not take a single step back. If the US and the Philippines scheme to play some tricks around Ren'ai Reef (Ayugin Shoal),
China could tow away or sink the 'stranded' old ship (BRP Siera Madre), and resolve the standoff once and for all."

They must be forgetting about our A-10s and F-18s based nearby. Well if they try, it would be easy to sweep off the cockroaches of the world away from the BRP Sierra Madre.

Philippine government sets aside PHP38 million for hull repairs on landing ship | IHS Jane's 360 - 20 July 2016

A pre-bid conference for the remediation works contract has been scheduled by the DND's Bids and Award Committee on 22 July at Naval Station Jose Francisco in Taguig City and the winning bidder will have to complete the service within 100 calendar days of the award.
Glad I read the entire article. For a while I thought they were repairing the BRP Sierra Madre.

Thanks MSantor and Hong Nam for the correction...

For so many years China has been waiting for BRP Sierra Madre to disintegrate and even offered some assistance for the removal of that ship away from the Ayungin shoal. And now that after the maritime case has been won in favor of the Philippines. We all know that resuming its repairs and maintenance will buy us more time, while we are waiting for additional assets to guard Ayungin shoal and other claimed territories. Most important is the safety of our personnel stationed in Sierra Madre, also one of the major concern why we need to resume its repair and maintenance ASAP.

But of course, one may ask How? and When? We all know that Chinese coastguard are still active in blocking our ships from resupplying BRP Sierra Madre. Using our existing air asset to drop supplies maybe one of the effective solution we can use, but we must keep in mind that it may also require "alot" of aviation fuel that "may become costly" for cash strapped AFP.

Du30 to AFP: Occupy all West PH Sea territories, I will raise the flag in Pag-asa | interaksyon

"We tried to be friends with everybody but we have to maintain our jurisdiction now at least (in the) areas...under control and I have ordered the Armed Forces to occupy all," the President said.

Duterte told journalists that there were about nine to 10 islands in the West Philippine Sea "where I must build bunkers or houses and make provisions for habitation."

The President added that he would replace the BRP Sierra Madre with a luxury liner so that Filipino soldiers stationed onboard the vessel would be able to enjoy and relax while guarding the territory.

1.) Friends with everybody ?!?!?

- Sure doesn't include Australia, the USA, and the EU. :headbang:

2.) A luxury liner ?!?!?

China's navy, coast guard 'harassed' Filipino troops on resupply mission on Ayungin — Alejano

Audrey Morallo (philstar.com) - May 30, 2018 - 5:01pm
MANILA, Philippines — An opposition lawmaker critical of President Rodrigo Duterte’s foreign policy on China and the dispute in the South China Sea said Wednesday that Filipino troops conducting resupply missions to personnel stationed on Ayungin Shoal were harassed by the Chinese navy.

Tensions in the hotly-disputed waters rose in the past weeks after China’s military landed a bomber capable of carrying nuclear-tipped missiles on one of its features in the South China Sea, effectively putting the whole Southeast Asia within Beijing’s reach.

It was also revealed that China installed missile systems on its other features, and these could potentially strike some parts of Palawan, a tourist island province west of Manila.

China chopper harasses PH rubber boat in Ayungin Shoal – lawmaker

Rappler

Quote:

May 31, 2018

The Philippine Navy was then conducting "a reprovisioning mission for our troops" at the BRP Sierra Madre in Ayungin Shoal.

"When the Philippine Navy ship launched a rubber boat to resupply BRP Sierra Madre, a chopper of PLAN hovered in a close and dangerous distance. The PLAN chopper was so close that seawater splash entered the rubber boat," Alejano said. ...

Cayetano answered: "I'm not saying it's not harassment. I'm saying harassment is a generic word and we're talking why it happened. The military does not report it as harassment. The military reports it factually kung ano (as it is). Harassment is ano eh (what), what's it, an adverb?" ...

"It's an incident. It's an incident," Cayetano said.

Cayetano said the first red line is China could not build in Scarborough Shoal. Second red line is China should not attempt to remove BRP Sierra Madre from Ayungin Shoal.

Another red line is resupply missions and repairs should not be harassed.

“Isa pang red line natin, walang kukuha ng natural resources doon on their own,” Cayetano said.

harassment noun, aggressive pressure or intimidation.

equivocation noun, the use of ambiguous language to conceal the truth or to avoid committing oneself; prevarication.
