![]() MANILA, Philippines - Food deliveries don’t usually come by plane, but this was certainly no ordinary food delivery. Yesterday, a blue Navy Islander plane dropped packs of Jollibee's popular Chicken Joy and Jolly Peach Mango pies to the Marine troops at Ayungin Shoal. 5 Chinese vessels deployed near shoal Jaime Laude - The Philippine Star 05/04/2014 11:30 AM PUERTO PRINCESA, Palawan - China has deployed five vessels - a survey ship, a frigate and three surveillance vessels - close to Ayungin Shoal in the West Philippine Sea. A Philippine Air Force (PAF) Nomad plane saw the Chinese deployment while delivering provisions to the Marine troops on the BRP Sierra Madre at Ayungin Shoal. The STAR joined yesterday's airdrop operations and saw several Chinese ships in the area. The Chinese vessels include two surveillance ships with Bow No. 3111 and 3102; XiangYonghong 10, a survey ship; a Jianghu-V Class frigate, and one unmarked white ship from their forward naval station at Panganiban Reef. PH PM, PN, PCG and PAF should be ready, red alert at all times, on the lookout for a possible retaliation against our PM Soldiers stationed in Ayungin shoal from PROC, the PH Govt. and the AFP must devise plans to secure, protect and reinforce our PM Soldiers deployed in the area. I think it will be better for AFP-PAF to deploy some armed air assets like S-211's, OV-10 Broncos w/ rockets and gunpods or some newly acquired Hueys modified into gunships, w/ rockets, 50 cal. MG's and MD520 MG's that can maybe? docked, deployed on the BRP. Sierra Madre as additional air support. While all of these may still look outnumbered and outgunned, it is far better than just having 7 helpless PM soldiers against an armada of PLAN. Besides it's better to have more PH Assets at risk, under threat, in a way and also to give more weight in order to ignite our MDT with the US.

School kids receive letters from soldiers in loneliest outpost By Redempto D. Anda Inquirer Southern Luzon Sunday, May 18th, 2014 ![]() PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Philippines - What do soldiers in the country's loneliest outpost do to kill time? They write letters to schoolchildren. "We are extremely touched by your letters, knowing it's not just our families praying for our safety but the entire Filipino people." - Sgt. Wilmer Murillo, Marine Battalion Landing Team 12 The Western Command (Wescom) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines declined to narrate how they were able to receive the letters from the soldiers on Ayungin with the Chinese naval blockade in place. Recent reports indicate that at least five Chinese naval vessels have been keeping an eye on the disputed reef. "That is classified information," Wescom spokesperson Lt. Cheryl Tindog told the Inquirer. Inquirer |

New life for old PH ship in disputed Ayungin shoal By Kim Arveen Patria Good Vibes - 4 hours ago ![]() Amid disputes in the West Philippine Sea, a dilapidated ship occupied by a handful of Marines seems to be the only thing that stands between the Philippines and China. Things may soon change, however, as a group hopes to give new life to the old ship by turning it into a garden which may also provide sustenance for men posted there. An online community called "It's No Fun in Pag-asa" is leading efforts aimed at boosting the morale of military men stationed in the border with China, as well as residents there. The same group, led by activist Carlos Celdran is now pushing for the conversion of BRP Sierra Madre into a garden - possibly one where Marines can grow vegetables. "We have the vision of turning it into a garden whether it will be a vegetable garden is still under study. It's hard for them to get access to food in the area so a vegetable garden, if ever, would really of help in the well-being of soldiers in the ship. I am sure that we are going to ask help in sending construction materials and other supplies to the ship since it is highly inaccessible," an architect involved in the effort told Yahoo Philippines. The architect, who requested anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the project, added that if vegetables can indeed be grown in the ship, it can serve as food source for soldiers. Yahoo News |

if this pushes thru, i wont be surprised with (moronic) phl media asking something like: "are those garden aimed at china?" and then dfa will respond: "those garden are not in any way aimed at china..." and the idiotic (chinese) state newspaper will run an editorial with a headline: "second thomas shoal and its provocative garden"

I think our filipino culture, and emotional mindset permeates government decision-making and press releases. The frequent apologetic tone of DFA reminds me of the filipino(and asian?) trait of "baka magalit" o "nakikiramdaman", in english, overthinking what the other side is feeling, and hence, being apologetic about one's actions even if you are not at fault. ,but that is not surprising since we are the most emotional country in the world which also has its advantage in that if it came down to a fight, we should not be surprised if we will fight to the last man even if the odds are insurmountable because if we are clinical or logical in our decision-making then we would not have responded the way we respond to the bully(which is why they are surprised)

This incident occurred August 1 when they visited BRP Sierra Madre in Ayungin Shoal to bring supplies to troops deployed on the said ship. Officials of the Kalayaan Municipal Office also went to Ayungin Shoal to prepare the upcoming visit of Kalayaan Mayor. The said China Coast Guard vessel is CCG vessel #3111 a 70-meter surveillance ship. The municipal officials were forced to pass by shallow waters where the large vessel of Chinese Coast Guard is unable to follow. Kalayaan executive assistant Joey Vincent Rabanal said that freedom of innocent passage is being deprived by the Chinese government.
