BRP Sierra Madre set to be repaired By Francisco Tuyay | Mar. 23, 2014 at 12:01am A SECURITY official on Saturday bared a plan to repair the grounded Philippine Navy ship “BRP Sierra Madre which ran aground the Ayungin Shoal in 1999. The official, who asked not to be identified for lack of authority to speak on the matter, said the Sierra Madre (PS-57), a tank landing ship, needs immediate repair because it is already falling apart although it houses several Marines who serve as security at the shoal. “There is no plan to put up any structures in Ayungin Shoal,” the official said. “What we are doing there is conducting repairs inside the ship to keep it from disintegrating.” ... “We will not leave because it’s ours,” the security official said even as he assured that troops deployed in Ayungin as well as those manning military outpost in the Kalayaan Island Group will continue to receive the needed provisions despite the presence of Chinese ships. https://anc.yahoo.com/news/ayungin-bound-ph-navy-boat-initially-blocked-by-chinese-ship-072658143.html PH vessel brings supplies to Ayungin despite being blocked by Chinese ships UPDATE 4—8:45 p.m) Two Chinese Coast Guard vessels have blocked a Philippine civilian ship twice while it was en route to bring supplies and troops to the Ayungin Shoal, an area disputed by Manila and Beijing. It was earlier reported that the ship belonged to the Philippine Navy. At around one p.m. on Saturday afternoon, two “large white ships”—later identified as belonging to the Chinese Coast Guard—have blocked the front and rear of the civilian vessel which carried several media representatives, members of the Philippine Navy, and supplies, ABS-CBN News correspondent Chiara Zambrano told ANC in an interview three hours after the incident. After the first of the two Chinese vessels moved to the rear of the civilian vessel, the second—which was the faster one—“pulled up and blocked the [vessel's] front path,” said Zambrano, who is one of the media representatives onboard the boat. another option in re-supplying our sea outpost faster and probably less hassle from Chinese coastguard. PH Navy or airforce should invest and buy more Seaplanes like the Dornier. The factory I believe is at Subic.... check out this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4THHTczGD9k |
