Chinese foiled from occupying island
By Francisco Tuyay | Posted on May. 18, 2013 at 12:02am | 3,718 views

Philippine Navy ships used “bashing maneuvers” to drive away three fishing boats from mainland China that tried to occupy an island off Palawan in the West Philippine Sea on Tuesday, military sources said.

The fishing boats were in the vicinity of Ayungin Reef, also known as the Second Thomas Reef, when the Philippine Navy ships arrived and made “circling maneuvers” that forced the Chinese to move out, the source said.

“They were forced to back-off several miles from Ayungin Reef after our ships arrived in the area,” said the source who spoke to the Manila Standard on condition of anonymity.

Relax lang guys I have a bad feeling about this, I think Ayungin Reef is not really their target of invasion since they are very much exposed by doing that, diversionary tactics kumbaga. I think what they are really up to is Reed bank, considering the value of those reefs and what they can offer - duda lang naman ako pero kung may mga members sana ng PCG o Navy na magco-confirm na may assets tayo dun na nagbabantay I might get a feeling of relief, anybody who could answer this?

PHL vows defense of exclusive zone in South China Sea
Sunday, 19 May 2013

The Philippines owns its exclusive economic zone (EEZ) in the South China Sea and is duty-bound to protect it even as Manila and other parties try to help ensure unhampered access even to disputed waters there by all countries.

Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose L. Cuisia made this statement during the annual Meeting of the World Affairs Council of Greater Hampton Roads on Friday (Washington time).

- "It is essential that the Philippines work with other countries to guarantee freedom of navigation in the South China Sea, where an estimated $1.3 trillion in US trade flows through annually."

- "When another country declares that it owns about 75 percent of what the Philippines owns as exclusive economic zone, we are duty bound to stand up and protect it."

- "When another country stations its boats on a shoal that is a mere 120 miles from our mainland and more than 400 miles from theirs, the Philippines cannot just keep quiet."

According to the Philippine ambassador, it has become more imperative for Manila to build a minimum credible defense posture to serve as deterrent to any aggressive action that may be taken against the Philippines.

Well said! I am in total agreement with him. Question is: When will this attempt to build a "minimum defense posture" be started? - and I am not talking about the planning stage, as it doesn't count. We all know talk is cheap, but it's the deed that brings home the results.

Oh, soon, not very soon (that means not for another year at least), but soon. I like the rumors floating around in the European and American Tor forums.

It's still rumors. (And I couldn't hotlink it to you, because you have to use Tor. It's not even listed on TORDIR.) But from what I've been hearing, PH has "scouted" for the following;
Quote:

Philippine Military attaches have been sent to Europe, specifically Britain and Germany, to scout for the following military assets;
*Exocet
*Penguin Missile
*Roland missile

And in American forums;

Quote:

^ ey GGKnox, I just saw some PAF air force pukes yesterday to look at good 'ol American weaponry. Don't worry, I positively confirmed their patches. Looks like you lose at our bet (for now). Couldn't get close much, but I heard that they were looking at twin-tailed and single-engine aircrafts at LM. Of course I'm not so sure, but that's what the chiefs told me.
(GGKnox was me, and LM means Lockheed-Martin)

Hong, if you want replies, do it via PM
