US insists missile defence targets Pyongyang, not Beijing http://ph.news.yahoo.com/us-insists-missile-defence-targets-pyongyang-not-beijing-075002097.html one of the commenter is... Mike Zwahzhal 21 hours ago But China CONTINUES to stupidly install their own mid-range and long-range MISSILES to target NOT ONLY Taiwan but includes Vietnam and PH. Does mid & long range missiles really a necessity if their target is Taiwan? This is another clear example of deceit in their statements, the way they are deceiving the whole world of their illegal claim of the WPS. It's blasphemy! CHINA HAS NO RIGHT TO DEMAND what is NOT FOR THEM! is that you mr.z?

we really need US Missile Shield here and that would gave us an upper hand about China's threat to bomb Philippines coz we don't agree with them... then we should strengthen our Military Defense Forces in both Navy and Air Force. reactivate the Military Reservist to do partial-active duty with very good incentives. Pursue self-reliance in shipbuilding in full acceleration in order to meet our defensive requirement...then continue research thru government program for Technology Universities to build indigenous-design Sonar, Radar and Missile systems.. |

Well said. It would be important to never forget the lessons of the past in relying too much on the USA for the defense or the country. The Filipinos must also have their own radar and missile systems under their control and integrated into the US system. When the funds become available. That is the only way to prevent the Philippines from being "naked" again. Never again!

got your point sir. what i'm trying to say here is that if China will attack us, they should be prepared for a war with the US because the MDT provisions will drag the US to a Philippine conflict.. |

As much as I want this to be true. There is still a lingering doubt in my mind if the U.S. will truly honor the MDF if attacks occur in the WPS. If they do, then BRAVO!. God Bless the Yanks! Question is.... How long will they take to get into action? During the first Gulf War in the 90's, Kuwait was invaded by Iraq in August and the coalition attack began in January the following year. Would it take 5 months if it happens to us? If by some miracle of logistics, the Yanquis manage to get their act in less than 2 weeks... What would be left of our limited military assets and facilities? Would the Pag-asa Island and the 4 islands under Philippine control still be flying the Philippine flag? I think not. The Philippines should be prepared. Start learning to stand up without relying on the USA. That's how the Philippines got into this mess in the first place. Norte American politics have a nice way of screwing things up. It doesn't matter if war is eminent or not. Just get ready. - IF YOU WANT PEACE, PREPARE FOR WAR - This should have been done years ago.

Wow i think this happen before world war 2 anyone remember our forefathers have the same problem we have a worse problem now but its Naval/Air assault no landings in manila or anyplace really except the our West Philippines islands so we have to fortify those areas and place long range batteries in Palawan too bad our batteries are 2nd priority our first is the Airforce and Navy major assets |

"No sacrifice is too great in the service of freedom." As long as we are not willing to provide an adequate, suitable and capable defense for this country, we will be oppressed, demeaned and dishonored. We will be the stepping mat of every country in this region,(Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile) Just because we are a very weak country militarily, we should not be taken advantage of by more powerful countries" (Senate committee on national defense and security chairman Panfilo Lacson) | |

REUTERS/Fatih Saribas/FilesEnlarge Photo The engine-less hulk of a vast (Reuters) - When Japanese activists scrambled ashore on a disputed island chain in the East China Sea this month, one of China's most hawkish military commentators proposed an uncharacteristically mild response. Retired Major General Luo Yuan suggested naming China's new aircraft carrier Diaoyu, after the Diaoyu islands in the East China Sea. It would demonstrate China's sovereignty over the islands known as the Senkakus in Japanese, he said. For a notable hardliner, it was one of the least bellicose reactions he has advocated throughout a series of territorial rows that have soured China's ties with its neighbors in recent months. More typical was General Luo's warning in April that the Chinese navy would "strike hard" if provoked during a dispute with the Philippines over Scarborough Shoal in the South China Sea. One possible reason for General Luo's restraint, military analysts say, is he knows it could be towards the end of the decade before China can actually deploy the new carrier to the disputed islands or any other trouble spot. Despite public anticipation in China that the carrier -- a refitted, Soviet-era vessel bought from Ukraine -- will soon become the flagship of a powerful navy, defense experts say it lacks the strike aircraft, weapons, electronics, training and logistical support it needs to become a fighting warship. "There is considerable uncertainty involved, but it could take anything from three to five years," said Carlo Kopp, the Melbourne, Australia based co-founder of Air Power Australia, an independent military think tank. SEA TRIALS The refitted carrier, commonly known by its original name, Varyag, returned to Dalian in northeast China last month after its ninth sea trial, according to reports in the official Chinese media. Some Chinese military researchers had speculated earlier that it would be commissioned into the navy this year. However, senior People's Liberation Army officers have played down these expectations, making it clear the 60,000-tonne carrier was far from operational readiness and would undergo an extensive schedule of trials and exercises. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- --- - - Good news Steeldust! Now we can heave a sigh of relief momentarily- for 3 to 5 yrs? Perhaps what delayed it was the inability of the J-15, a local version of the SU-33, with enough power to take from the ski jump ramp. The J-15 was fitted with a China made engine not the original Russian made which is more powerful. I having problem downloading the whole article. It is on Yahoo news today. Thanks. IF it is, then it's good news for everybody including the US. I truly hope so. BUT, what IF it isn't? Remember Sun Tzu's "When weak, appear to be strong. When strong, appear to be weak."? But then, the projected 3-5 years for the Varyag to be operational remains a speculation. Lots of military think tanks failed in their speculations in the past. It couldn't be different from now. |
