This special meeting was initially taken up in the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat last February 27 in Vientiane and was proposed to China, with the purpose of discussing concerns of ASEAN Member States on the South China Sea.

Summary of Justice Carpio's Presentation on W. Phil Sea Issues

Quote:

EXPLANATION

The key points simply suggests that China's claims in the area, specifically it's nine-dash claims are vague and pointless, citing concerns that there were questionable basis as per Chinese points were concerned. These things also pointed hegemony across claimant states by the Chinese which suggests that their actions were concerning in the part of the security and stability as per status quo into that area. Not also to mention that Taiwan's past and present actions also determine the Communist Chinese ones such as the fact that the Kwomintang party's maps and documents in the 1920s do not have the South China Sea/West Philippine Sea into there helm with the exception of Itu Aba which predetermination as per UNCLOS basis as to what kind of features are there in the area whether they maybe rocks, shoals or self-sustaining islands that entitled to have its own Exclusive Economic Zone. It also reaffirms the stance among claimants to the mere fact that Philippines submit a case in the arbitration court which it will determine the outcome of the claims which will make or break the territorial standing into that area.
Never assume unless it is highly stated.

After all this time of being so sympathetic to China... offering a self-imposed "shut up" from a man who doesn't want to shut up... Widodo offering China an strong Indonesian wall in the Spratlys, outdoing his proposed heroic stunt of jetskiing with the flag... Carpio insinuating impeachment on a leader who will sell WPS... seem somebody folded up to the real realities... I think advisers have told him to shut up because its no use depending China now while our case is still being heard in Hague and while some pitiful Filipino + American activists do the cat and mouse dance with the Chinese in the Scarborough.

Practically no data/judgement yet to manipulate or the timing is awfully not right.

Dutertes' words are all leaning or leading to bilateral and economic talks with China from the very beginning so if the arbitration leans towards our claims, Duterte will just pass it by or more likely ignore it, then Justice Carpio can start the process of impeaching him... IMO

It is as simple as that you allowed a thief enter your house and you allow him to get whatever he wants and he can come back whenever he wants!

That is OURS!!! :patrioticpinoy:

Hague court to rule July 12 in South China Sea case
By: Jo Biddle and Jan Hennop, Agence France-Presse
June 30, 2016 12:24 AM

THE HAGUE, NETHERLANDS - A little-known international tribunal will early next month step into a bitter dispute over the South China Sea, handing down a ruling which risks further inflaming tensions between Southeast Asian nations and China.

The Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) -- the world's oldest international tribunal for the peaceful resolution of disputes between nations -- said Wednesday it will rule on July 12 in the highly-watched case brought by the Philippines challenging China's claims to much of the strategic waterway.

Manila lodged the suit against Beijing in early 2013, saying that after 17 years of negotiations it had exhausted all political and diplomatic avenues to settle the dispute.

But Beijing, angered by Manila's move, has refused to participate in any hearings and said it will not comply with any decisions by the tribunal based in The Hague.

Beijing to reject Hague ruling on PH's South China Sea case
By: Agence France-Presse
June 30, 2016 11:41 AM

BEIJING -- Beijing will reject any ruling by an international tribunal in a contentious case brought by the Philippines over the South China Sea, the foreign ministry said, as tensions mount over the disputed waters.

The United Nations-backed Permanent Court of Arbitration said Wednesday it will rule on July 12 in a closely watched case challenging China's claims to much of the strategic waterway.

Beijing has consistently rejected the tribunal's right to hear the case and has taken no part in the proceedings, mounting a diplomatic and propaganda drive to try to undermine its authority.

Ahead of key court ruling on South China Sea issue, Beijing in propaganda overdrive
By: Greg Torode and Mike Collett-White, Reuters

HONG KONG/LONDON - As an international tribunal prepares to rule on Beijing's territorial claims in the South China Sea, officials in Washington, Tokyo and Southeast Asia are on tenterhooks.

Yet, in the words of one senior Chinese official, Beijing does not care.

On July 12, the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague will rule on a case brought by the Philippines against China over its territorial claims and actions across the disputed waters and vital global trade route.

Thank you, President Obvious! But obviously you don't value modernizing the AFP enough to prepare the Philippines for such an external defense contingency.

Duterte on West Philippine Sea dispute: 'We are not prepared to go to war'
By: Jelly F. Musico, Philippines News Agency
July 6, 2016 2:52 AM

MANILA -- In front of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) troops, President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday said he will hold bilateral talks with China if the Philippines will get favorable ruling from international arbitral tribunal, saying the country is not prepared to go to war.

”If it is favorable to us, let’s talk. We are not prepared to go to war. War is a dirty word now but we will proceed accordingly after we shall have the copy of the arbitral judgment,” President Duterte said in his speech during the 69th PAF Anniversary at the Clark Air Base in Mabalacat, Pampanga.

The Philippines is waiting for the ruling of the Permanent Court of Arbitration under the United Nations on the merit of the arbitration case filed by the Philippines against China’s territorial claim at the the West Philippine Sea, a part of South China Sea.
