China to PH: Let’s be 'flexible, intelligent,' like the monkey

'The new year marks a new beginning. I sincerely hope and believe that through our joint efforts, we will continue to make new progress and open a new chapter of win-win cooperation,' says Chinese Ambassador Zhao Jianhua

February 03, 2016

MANILA, Philippines – China made an indirect call to the Philippines to be "flexible and intelligent" like the monkey, as depicted in Chinese astrology, to enjoy a “vigorous” 2016.

The problem is we think you are monkeying around with us. You already proved you can't be trusted when you agreed for both parties to leave Scarborough shoal. We left as agreed but you didn't. Show first you can be trusted and being flexible by leaving Scarborough shoal and we can go back to talking bilaterally. Otherwise, we know you are just all-talk and saying one thing and doing the opposite.

A double edged statement and a horrible choice of word: Monkey. And to execute monkey business with them, that won't do good. :brrt: :nono:

You already proved you can't be trusted when you agreed for both parties to leave Scarborough shoal.

The root of the problem - as they have done nothing to give you reason to trust them. An "agreement" is only an agreement if it benefits the Chinese government. Hell... even international law is ignored on a regular basis but eagerly quoted when it is to their advantage.

I just hope your politicians see this.

The Ministry of Whining/China's Foreign Ministry weighs in again:

China criticizes Philippines over South China Sea dispute
by AP
February 26, 2016

WASHINGTON — China on Thursday accused the Philippines of “political provocation” in seeking international arbitration over territorial claims in the South China Sea, driving home its intention to ignore the proceedings despite pressure from Washington.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said the decision by Philippine leaders to lodge a case with a tribunal in The Hague was “irresponsible to the Filipino people and the future of the Philippines.”

China has refused to participate in the arbitration process, which it has denounced as illegitimate. A ruling is expected later this year, after the tribunal decided last October that it could hear the case.

There's no guarantee China will do this on its own:

Palace urges China to go by int’l law
by Madel Sabater - Namit
March 1, 2016

Malacañang called on Beijing yesterday to respect international law, which will be the basis for the decision of the Arbitral Tribunal in the case filed by the Philippines against China over their territorial dispute in the West Philippine Sea/South China Sea.

Presidential Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. also stressed the Philippines’ position on abiding by the rule of law.

“We reiterate our position on the primacy of the rule of law,” Coloma said.

China is eager to quote international law when it suits them but ignores it when it doesn't. Things have always been that way with the "middle kingdom" and expecting it to change now is more like wishful thinking.

They can't get away from their "century of humiliation" mentality. They are heading down The Thucydides Trap at full speed - ironically leading themselves to another path of humiliation if things turn for the worse.

its almost certain that the very least that ITLOS will award the philippines is the oil/gas rich Recto(Reed Bank) bank as it is only 80 miles from palawan, and since we know currently, that Recto(Reed bank) http://uk.reuters.com/article/philippines-energy-southchinasea-idUKL3N0NV2BQ20140509 is the biggest treasure of all in the west philippine sea then all eyes will be on the Philippine government's will, and determination to secure this area for 2 reasons; it seems certain it will be awarded to us by ITLOS, and second, its physical proximity means that it is easier to secure as even the AFP's short-range offensive assets such as the Hueys, MD-520s, MPAC, various small patrol boats, etc can easily reach and loiter over Recto bank. The Recto Bank's gas/oil reserves are reportedly up to 20 Trillion cubic feet or more, that's 6 times bigger than the Malampaya gas field.

@Pachador,

Regardless, The present Govt. should have prioritized acquiring formidable Military Equipments for PN and PAF in order to form a Task Force WPS, (Along side AFPM plans) that can handle further territory grabbing threats or intrusions in the area. Whether all of these Military Hardwares will be acquired through (FMS),(EDA), Secondhand or Brandnew, or for Interim etc.

Option 1 As (Initial) AA/ AS Missile Defense Systems for existing PN Ships, PF's Class, Jacinto Class and others..

Option 2: Acquiisition of Interim Assets like : (2-3) Maestrales or the likes, (1) Pohang's, (12) MPACs (missile armed) (2 )more SSVs, (8-12) AH AW 109's or W3W Anaconda type, combined with either (8) AMX's or (8-12) Super Tucano, (2-4) KFIR 2000.

The Aquino Govt. could have been much wiser to plan something along side the filing of ITLOS cases against China, anticipating the aftermath as well, if the ruling favours PH in the end.
But, It seems they really don't have plans for all of these, but only maybe, everything is just tailored to suite in Beijing's favour from the start.

History will judge the outcome of all of these illegal acts against the Philippines, internal and external forces combined.

My point is.. It's as CLEAR as a Crystal that what's happening in WPS, particularly right now in Jackson Atoll, China is trying to kill the re-supply for all the rest of PH controlled territories in KIG, not to mention including the livelihood of all the local Filipino Fishermen in the Country that's been fishing in those areas almost all their lives.

I am really very gutted at the reaction and way of thinking of some of our Presidential Candidates, Mar Roxas in particular, when he said that one of the solution is to give "Pautang" to the Filipino Fishermen, when the real BIG problem is that local Filipino Fishermen and the whole Country are continuously being robbed by CHINA in WPS of their livelihood. "Itong TUWID DAW NA DAAN Nila?" is meant to be the BEST option for the Filipino People and the Country..??? This is more like "TUWID NA DAAN para sa China."
