Palace to China: Take responsibility and answer for impact of reclamation work in West Philippine Sea
By Leslie D. Venzon

MANILA, July 2 (PNA) - Malacanang urged China Thursday to take responsibility and answer for the impact of its reclamation activities in the West Philippine Sea in line with its agreement with other Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) members to maintain the existing features of the sea.

Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. stressed that the growing world public opinion against China’s reclamation activities is an indication of the truth believed by many countries and individuals in the global community.

Coloma said China should be responsible for that it declared under the “Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea”, an agreement it signed with other ASEAN members in 2002 indicating the need to maintain the existing features of the sea.

He noted that China’s reclamation activities clearly violate its own declaration under the 2002 agreement.

Carpio: Even if PH wins case vs China, struggle will continue

But Carpio said even if the Philippines win its case, getting China to comply could become an intergeneration struggle.

“If we win, all those reclamations of China are illegal and China has no right to stay there and China must vacate; but of course that’s the big problem how to enforce the ruling,” Carpio said in a television interview over GMA News TV’s “State of the Nation.”

Manila finds marker with Chinese writing, buoys near Recto Bank - sources
By Manuel Mogato, Reuters

* Buoys stretched "as far as eye could see" - Philippine sailor
* Chinese naval ship emerged when sailors tried to remove buoys

PUERTO PRINCESA, Philippines - The Philippine navy recently found a large steel marker bearing Chinese inscriptions and hundreds of yellow buoys in waters near the Reed Bank, an area of the South China Sea where Manila has long explored for oil and gas, Philippine naval sources said.

One source, a sailor, told Reuters he was on a fishing boat being used by the navy that discovered the rubber buoys and the floating steel marker at the end of May. The buoys stretched "as far as the eye could see", the sailor said.

Efforts to remove the buoys were thwarted by the sudden appearance of a Chinese naval patrol vessel, prompting the Philippine boat to flee, the sailor said in an interview in Puerto Princesa, capital of Palawan province, the Philippine military's jumping off point to the disputed South China Sea. It was unclear what the Chinese inscriptions on the steel marker said.

The discovery was confirmed by two senior Philippine naval officials. One said the buoys were still there when the navy checked in the middle of June, although the steel marker was gone. No attempt was made to remove the buoys, he said.

The three sources declined to be identified because they were not authorised to speak to the media.

Will force protection equipment and night fighting devices be of any use here? I said it before and I will say it again now... and apologise anew for any offence that may be taken, although it was never my intention.

^This is bullocks!!!

What Philippines needs to do is to deploy MPACs (with mothership and PN/ PAF escorts) to tow those bouys away or just shoot sink n blow them away to kingdom come.

If the Philippines classifies "Reed Bank" as part of it's EEZ territories, they should send everything at their disposal and be ready for anything.. for this is the only way to repel any China advancement in those areas. PH and AFP must show some resolve, as if like there's a Chinese invasion of the Philippines.
This time around, there won't be any stand off, but a warning shot and followed by a shooting war if they disregard.

This is also the only way, to show to them and to the World, "Enough is Enough!" You are not taking away any inch of this particular area without blood shed.

I really can't see the point of this PNoy government avoiding to do what is right, when the thieves are already entering PH jurisdiction?? This won't put our UN case against China in jeopardy if we fight back to protect and defend our territories...

This absolutely looks like "Benta" to China and some of the pips here are right from the start, regardless of PNoy's "as if" initiatives, fighting for PH case filling and the super soft and delayed efforts of trying to achieve "kuno", a credible defense for the armed force of Ph modernization (show off)?

As we can all see, the only thing that's advancing and accomplishing things at a superfast pace is CHINA!

anybody saw the WPS docu by the DFA? the 2nd part on its kalayaan island leg? from that island, they monitored big foreign fishing vessels. so what the navy did? get on their RHIB drive out to sea and politely asked the boat to leave... you know the reason why? navy said its because "my friend, no fishing, Philippine territory..."

the navy didn't went there to apprehend... the mission is to politely ask intruders to please leave. now these are just foreign fishing vessel. what more if a foreign coast guard went there?

they keep saying that they guarding the best they can the territory... but its just so NOT true. no guard would let somebody loot in his area.

to be politically correct is to say they are monitoring the area... listing what has been looted by the Chinese, Vietnamese and Taiwanese. then reporting them back to headquarters.

their achievements is quantified by... sirs, a fewer foreign fishing vessels looted the Philippine territory this month than last month. wow what an achievement... a the navy deserves a medal?

this status quo that malacanan and the DFA is promoting as our approach is degrading our militaries/navies ability to fight. sadly, this is the strongest we can be... the next president would probably take a more milder approach as now.

Google Maps urged to remove Chinese reference to shoal

By Janvic Mateo, The Philippine Star

MANILA - Filipino netizens are urging technology giant Google to remove from its maps service a Chinese reference to the disputed Panatag (Scarborough) Shoal in the West Philippine Sea.

A Change.Org petition said Google Maps has identified the shoal, located off the coast of Zambales, as part of China’s Zhongsha Islands – a group of submerged reefs and shoals in the area being claimed by several countries, including the Philippines. Panatag Shoal is within the Philippines’ 200-nautical mile exclusive economic zone (EEZ).

“China’s sweeping claim of South China Sea under their nine-dash line purportedly historical boundary is illegal and is creating tension among nations,” read the petition (http://chn.ge/1LXhtSk), which had over 400 supporters as of yesterday.

PH cheers growing outcry over South China Sea

MANILA -- The Philippines on Sunday hailed what it termed growing international support for its efforts to counter China's claims to most of the South China Sea.

The comments from a presidential spokesman came as the US Pacific Fleet released photographs of its commander in a surveillance flight over the sea, where tension is rising between Manila and Beijing.

Herminio Coloma, spokesman for President Benigno Aquino III, said that "there are additional voices supporting our move for a peaceful resolution to the debate over... the South China Sea."

He said many nations agreed that the dispute "must go through legal process as signatories to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea".

China wants bilateral talks with Philippines

Posted at 07/23/2015 4:56 AM

China hopes that the Philippines will drop its case before the United Nations Tribunal on the Law of the Sea. The Chinese ambassador to Manila issued the statement a day before the deadline for the Philippines to submit written arguments to the U.N. Tribunal in the Netherlands. The ambassador said bilateral talks are still the best option for resolving the maritime dispute. - ANC, The World Tonight, July 22, 2015

Filipino fishermen remove Chinese buoys near disputed shoal, officials say
Sun Jul 26, 2015 6:12am EDT

MANILA (Reuters) - Filipino fishermen found several buoys with Chinese markings near the disputed Scarborough Shoal and towed the devices back to shore northwest of the capital, Manila, Philippines officials said on Sunday.

China seized control of the rocky outcrop in the South China Sea in 2012 after a three-month stand-off with Philippine coast guard ships, preventing Filipino fishermen from getting near their traditional fishing grounds.

The shoal is about 125 nautical miles (230 km) west of the Philippines.

"Yes, there are buoys there," said Desiree Edora, mayor of Masinloc town, which has jurisdiction over Scarborough Shoal.
