Pnoy has done what he can do democratically to modernize our Military, more than any administration before him, but he is not a dictator who decides everything. The man is president but still has to follow the law. It's congress who holds the power of the purse in our government. And for some strange reason, they still don't think that Defending the West Phil. Sea is of utmost importance. And everything the Military requires to defend our territories cost money. when the President found a way to use the Malampaya funds to fund it's own security, the clowns found a way to legally stop it and even threatened Pnoy of imprisonment after his term. And now that Pnoy is confirming the ownership of our western territories through UNCLOS, for other friendly country's to have better reason to help us defend our own. some people are still trying to find angles to prove that it was a wrong move. as if China wouldn't have change it's island stealing ways if we didn't. For me, blaming Pnoy for our slow AFP Modernization is barking the wrong tree.

China slams 'futile' PH occupation of disputed island

Reuters
Posted at 05/12/2015 7:04 PM

BEIJING - China rebuked the Philippines on Tuesday for taking journalists to a disputed island in the South China Sea, dismissing its occupation as "futile and illegal" in the latest war of words between the two sides.

China claims 90 percent of the South China Sea, which is believed to be rich in oil and gas. Its claims overlap with those of Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam and Taiwan.

The Philippines took foreign and local journalists this week to Thitu Island, the biggest island occupied by Manila in the region.

What's a Chinese reporter doing on Pag-asa Island? | abs-cbn news

AFP Western Command chief Vice Admiral Alexander Lopez said: “We took that as an opportunity, a chance to belie the allegations of China that we are doing reclamation activities in Pag-asa.”

He said it will now be up to the Chinese reporter what she would do with what she saw, “whether [she] will be part of the objective reporting or be part of the deception being done by China.”

AFP officials, led by chief Gen. Gregorio Catapang, set foot on Pag-asa this week to “establish the fact” that the island is part of Palawan and thus part of the Philippines. Officials are planning to turn the place into a tourism area.

Beijing says PH, US 'exaggerate China threat' in sea row

Reuters
Posted at 05/15/2015 6:01 PM
BEIJING - China's Foreign Ministry accused the Philippines on Friday of working together with the United States to "exaggerate the China threat" over a disputed shoal in the South China Sea.

Beijing stepped up its criticism of Manila a day before U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is due to visit China, where he is expected to raise Washington's commitment to ensuring freedom of navigation and flight in the South China Sea.

Security concerns have deepened internationally about Beijing's maritime ambitions in the South China Sea.

Why Fil-Am group calls for Chinese-made goods boycott

ABS-CBN North America News Bureau

REDWOOD CITY, California – The US Pinoys for Good Governance (USP4GG) is urging Filipinos all over the world to boycott products made in China as a form of protest to China's so-called bullying in areas also claimed by the Philippines.

The USP4GG boycott includes big U.S. companies like Walmart, Target, and Apple which sell Chinese-made products.

"We know that this is a difficult thing to ask people to stop buying products from China but this has to be done eventually. But this is an important thing to express to the Filipino people that China is engaged in aggressive behavior," said Ted Laguatan, legal counsel for USP4GG.

China gives ‘gentle reminder’ to Phl, warns small nations | Philstar via Yahoo! news

“Here is a gentle reminder to the Philippines: China will not bully small countries, meanwhile, small countries shall not make trouble willfully and endlessly. We hope that the Philippine side would stop instigation and provocation and come back to the right track of resolving issues through negotiation and consultation,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said.

“I can feel the restlessness and rashness of some people from the Philippines on issues of the South China Sea,” she said.
She said China’s relevant position has been made clear on multiple occasions.

The official said China’s construction on maritime features of the Spratly Islands is to better fulfill China’s international responsibilities and obligations in maritime search and rescue, disaster prevention and mitigation, marine science and research, meteorological observation, protection of the ecological environment, safety of navigation, fishery production] and services[/b.

Beware China's Strategic Doublespeak

China's latest statement of military strategy is full of doublespeak that whitewashes new and assertive content
through self-contradictory statements and ambiguous phrases.

Van Jackson
May 29, 2015

On China's recently released white paper, China's Military Strategy:

- Instead of offensive military attacks and first strikes, China talks of "active defense" and "preparation for military struggle."

- The white paper states that "Peace, development, cooperation and mutual benefit have become an irresistible tide of the times," while decrying "new threats from hegemonism, power politics and neo-interventionism."

- It describes China's external environment as "generally favorable," yet the entire paper is about how it intends to cope with challenges to its expanding interests, requiring a larger and more diverse military force structure than ever.

- China says "it will never seek hegemony or expansion," yet the white paper unquestionably describes a need to project military power globally to protect global interests, and that "China's armed forces will remain a staunch force for maintaining world peace."

- And on the South China Sea, China claims its "offshore neighbors take provocative actions and reinforce their military presence... that they have illegally occupied," even as it constructs what increasingly looks like airstrips and military bases in legally contested waters.

Chinese doublespeak, especially on military matters, is hardly new. But the consequence of it is to reinforce fissures in Asia, driving a wedge between those who find it inconvenient to acknowledge Chinese assertiveness and those who believe they may one day be on the receiving end of Chinese ambitions.
