You hit it right to the head, sir Hong! These businessmen sometimes (if not all of the times) only think about money and money and mo money. |

If the world doesn't expect China to actually use the Varyag, then what do they expect? Another hotel? ![]() Would make a nice artificial coral reef. It only seems right since they have destroyed your coral reefs, atolls, and fish habitats. Maybe it's time they give back to nature.

i don't think war is imminent, we're not in that stage yet.. where we are right now is in the preparation, albeit very slowly. it takes years before we can get the hardware. and once we have the minimum number of credible warships and fighters, we'll not stop there. we can't fight them with just a certain number of ships and planes, they're just so big and powerful so we have to be wise in fighting a war that may or may never come. they have the capability to stage a limited and even a full scale sea-borne invasion and frontal assault, so in the foreseeable future we have to develop a force that can stop, if not repel, this kind of attack, so i agree with the study of a senior fellow of FPRI. we can't fight China toe-to-toe. art of war, we'll fight them where they won't. how? let the generals think about it |

Sir Goose: Sorry, but in a war, one or both belligerents doesn't need to be prepared to wage one. In our case, China wouldn't advise us to strengthen our AFP as it will have a detrimental effect on the balance that is on their favor! Just look at how wars started. The other side were always "surprised" of the events unfolding right before their eyes. Take for example Poland in 1939. They have an idea that war is coming YET they don't expect it to come on September 1 that year! They were taken aback eventhough they've been strengthening and modernizing their forces for years! Do you think Poland will be beaten that easily should they knew the date of German's invasion? Other wars that I knew (and I may be lacking on this as well, mea culpa) that never went well for the invaders were the Greek wars from Persian invasions; and Finland during the winter war vs Russia when the latter prepared too much and eventually lost it's surprise virtue. Serious preparations, prompt reactions and steadfast resolutions helped the "defending" side stemmed the tide or even halted and frustrated the opfor. Yeah, for some war is not imminent. Only the Chicom's territorial grabbings will certainly be. Now that's the question whether our leaders will protect and stand for our territorial sovereignty or not. |

![]() Totally a new game changer!- The former carrier Varyag (aka Shi Lang or Liu HuaQing?) The carrier Varyag underwent its last, the 7th sea trial carrying with it several J-15 fighter jets involved in landing and take off. It was the longest sea trial for 25 days. the trials for the ship and jets involved ski jump for takeoff and 3 lines of cables/arresters to slow down/stop the aircraft when they land. The J-15 with folded wings was based on the Russia's SU-33 fighter. The earlier proposed sale from Russia of the SU-33s failed due to copy right problems with China. |

It's doesn't have to be a laborious "invasion" It could be instead what the west calls, "Gunboat Diplomacy"; China stationing surface ships at Hainan because of "security factors" and sending subs at Spratlys "to ensure China's sovereignty over the region". Basically, when that happens, we're at a lose-lose situation. We do nothing, nothing good happens for us. We do something, we provide China a reason for protracted and even open warfare. |

Napoleon Bonaparte once told one of his trusted officers that he wanted trees to be planted at the roadside in all of France so his troops could enjoy the shade while marching. His officer was clearly puzzled since trees would take at least 20 years to provide some sort of shade. Napoleon quickly understood what the officer was thinking and said: "All the reason why we have to start planting now." |

DFA chief: PHL ready to send back ships to Panatag once weather improves By MICHAELA DEL CALLAR August 24, 2012 12:02pm The Philippines will send back ships it pulled out from the disputed Panatag (Scarborough) Shoal or Bajo de Masinloc once the weather improves, Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario said. President Benigno Aquino III ordered the withdrawal of two Philippine vessels in June, easing a tense standoff that erupted in April 10. "We’re waiting for better conditions," Del Rosario told reporters during the Eid El Fitr reception at the Department of Foreign Affairs Thursday evening. "I think the President believes that this is not the proper time because of the very bad weather," he said. At least three Chinese vessels have been sighted at the shoal by the Philippine Navy in its latest reconnaissance flight over the area, Del Rosario said. Barriers set up by China at the mouth of the shoal to block the entry of any Philippine vessel that will attempt to enter the lagoon have remained, he added... Full Story at GMA News |
