This is what CHINA should do;

Excerpts from Hong Nam,
Quote:

Countries set aside territorial disputes and share resources through joint development and management.

..And this is the only best way forward towards PEACE in KIG/ Spratly Islands, but at the same time respecting Mainland EEZ's of all Country claimants with regards to UNCLOS.

If China were able to learn and embrace all of these with sincerity earlier, they could have overtaken the US Economy a long time ago... maybe :dunno:

You are right. That's what China should do.

Nothing worth having is easy and it doesn't really require sacrifice. It only requires people to listen. However, getting them to listen is no easy task.

All China has managed to do is too alienate themselves even further. Had they not pushed your country so hard; had they maintained the status quo; continuing on their "peaceful rise," there would have been no request for arbitration. Now they have to taste the bitter fruit of what they had planted.

They are the cause of their own undoing.

PH presents 'triple action plan' as South China Sea row clouds China-ASEAN meet
By: Agence France-Presse
August 9, 2014 12:00 PM

(...SNIPPED)

Philippine 'triple action plan'

A separate statement from the Department of Foreign Affairs on Saturday said Del Rosario presented a proposed "triple action plan" that contains "contains immediate, intermediate and final approaches to address the provocative and destabilizing activities in the region without prejudice to existing territorial claims."

Del Rosario outlined the plan:

"On an immediate basis, ASEAN, in demonstration of its leadership, must call for a cessation of activities that escalate tension, pursuant to Article 5 of the ASEAN-China Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea;"

"On an intermediate basis, to manage further tension, ASEAN and China should continue urgently working for a full and effective implementation of the DOC and the expeditious conclusion of a Code of Conduct;" and

"Finally, through arbitration, which is consistent with the DOC, there will be a clarification of entitlements to bring the disputes to a final and enduring resolution in accordance with international law, particularly UNCLOS (United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea)."

Beijing claims sovereignty over almost the entire sea, including waters, islands, reefs, shoals and rocky outcrops nearer to other countries.

US tries to cool sea tensions at Asia security summit
By: Agence France Presse
August 10, 2014 7:22 PM

NAYPYIDAW - The United States sought to ease maritime tensions as Asian and global powers gathered for security talks Sunday, but said that it did not want to "confront" China over its strategy in the region.

US Secretary of State John Kerry is pushing for an agreement to end all acts that risk further inflaming relations between Beijing and its Southeast Asian neighbours, following several tense encounters in the contested South China Sea this year.

Washington's top diplomat is touring the region despite a slew of major international crises in other parts of the world as the US looks to reinvigorate alliances in the Asia-Pacific as part of President Barack Obama's "pivot" east.

Observers say sea disputes will dominate the ASEAN Regional Forum in Myanmar's capital Naypyidaw on Sunday, which brings together Southeast Asian foreign ministers and key partners, including the US, Australia, China, India, Japan, South Korea, Russia and the European Union.

PH hits China over sea plan: 'We're humoring ourselves'
Paterno Esmaquel II
Aug 11, 2014

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippines criticized China on Monday, August 11, for rejecting Manila's plan to freeze provocative activities in the South China Sea even as its Southeast Asian neighbors, in a "unique" move, posed no objections.

"The TAP, if you take a look at it, is DOC-centered. And the message that I wanted to deliver is, TAP is good because it's DOC. If you don't accept TAP, then you don't believe in DOC. So let's stop talking about DOC, right? We're just humoring ourselves, right?"

"Everyone agreed that there was a problem, that we needed to come up with a solution to the problem. And when we put the TAP on the table, there were no objections. This is unique for ASEAN that an initiative does not encounter objections. I think people in ASEAN understood that we need to do something. Some spoke out. Some spoke out loudly. I know that there were sectors that believed in quieting things down, but as I said, from some sectors, the reaction was muted. There is a difference between being quiet and being openly supportive. I think if you're quiet, it's also a manifestation of support. You can support something quietly. You don't have to be vocal about it."

"The fact that there were no objections, I take that to mean that ASEAN was fully supportive."

- Albert del Rosario, Philippine Foreign Secretary

The DFA earlier said at least 3 countries - Vietnam, Indonesia, and Brunei - support the TAP.

Beijing hints it may stop activities in South China Sea if Manila drops arbitration
CLIFF VENZON, Nikkei staff writer

NAYPYIDAW -- China would be willing to halt its activities in disputed areas in the South China Sea if the Philippines backs out of international arbitration it initiated last year, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Saturday.

Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert Del Rosario proposed at a regional security summit here what he termed a "triple-action plan" in a bid to resolve territorial disputes and escalating tensions in the region.

Manila's proposal calls for the imposition of a moratorium on all unilateral actions in disputed waters on an "immediate" basis; the full and effective implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea and the early conclusion of a binding Code of Conduct on an "intermediate" basis; and ultimately, an arbitration process to settle disputes.

But Wang said Manila violated its proposal when it filed its case before the United Nations in January last year. China has declined to participate in the arbitration proceedings.

"If the Philippine side would like to carry out this plan, then it should revoke international arbitration in the first place, because that is the third step of its plan," Yi told reporters following the ASEAN-China meeting, one of the many sessions in the three-day event which started Friday.

"MAY" stop, they say? thats not even a sure thing. if we drop the arbit now, it will be too late if we refile it again later

imo ,whatever happens, china still and will declare the whole wps as theirs. and may even continue to do whatever they want in the wps because its "theirs" :brrt:

i say let unclos rule over it first before anything else. its too late to back down now. let china bury itself first and lets see what happens. im very optimistic that unclos will rule in our favor. and dont forget, the whole world will be watching :demon:

i see china getting desperate. i wont be surprised if they offer some loans :lollol:

i remember reading that china issued a statement regarding how to appease grp, offer gifts as a sign of goodwill

Proof that their claims to the South China Sea will not stand in the eyes of the international court. Drop your claim and you get no guarantees? Who was that who said:

Reasonable and sensible - that's your country.

Ventajoso - that's China.
