1.) Is this E-bay? Defense procurement in your country is like this?

2.) It's spelled with an E - exaggerated. - Major ally - now that in itself makes a whole lot of difference to me as it debatable.

Like before you may not answer back until your freebie radar pops up, unfortunately your radar is old fashioned or too faulty.

1. @hong its better than you christmas wishlist, as we all know we get our presents for free at christmas. And i tried to avoid that. Unfortunately people misunderstood.

Somehow I won't hold my breath that Beijing's PLA-N and CMS captains will actually restrain themselves if another tense situation will present itself:

China, more than 12 countries, including PH, sign 'Code for Unplanned Encounters at Sea'

By: Agence France-Presse
April 23, 2014 3:50 PM

BEIJING -- China, the United States, Japan, the Philippines and more than a dozen other Asia-Pacific countries have signed a naval agreement aimed at ensuring miscommunication between ships at sea does not escalate into conflict.

The Code for Unplanned Encounters at Sea, which was agreed Tuesday in the eastern port city of Qingdao, would reduce the potential for "situations to arise that could lead to conflict in busy sea lanes," the state-run China Daily said.

China is embroiled in a series of territorial disputes with neighbors in the South and East China Seas that have frequently led to military jets being scrambled but not open conflict.

Beijing also feels threatened by an increase in US naval power in the region.

In December, a US-guided missile warship, the Cowpens, had to make a sharp turn to avoid colliding with a Chinese naval ship that cut in front of it, according to the Pentagon.

Gary Li, an analyst with the consultancy IHS, described the agreement as "the ideal thing for China to grab hold of -- the rules of the road."

Same here. Somehow rules apply to everyone else except them. It's a positive step though. However, what comes out of it remains to be seen. :armycheers:

1.) You do know sarcasm when you see it, right? Should have been quite obvious when I agreed with you that your country being a major ally is debatable and further reinforced by my succeeding post which stated that it should get rid of the "Uncle Sam give me a freebie... Why are they getting this and we aren't? - mentality".

2.) I was not looking for an apology.

Because you posted the same "vague" response twice - from your phone.

here: http://s3.zetaboards.com/Defense_Philippines/single/?p=8093544&t=7665062
and here: http://s3.zetaboards.com/Defense_Philippines/single/?p=8093579&t=7665062

Hence spelling it wrong twice. Which is why I wanted to point it out to you. I know those tiny phones can cause problems. They can cause the same problems repeatedly.

Hopefully that should make things clearer and easier for you to understand.

Deception, or luring an enemy into a false sense of confidence or security, is one of the tenets from the classical Chinese book Art of War, if I can recall correctly.

That's why I don't give this statement even a single iota of credibility...

China may have an interest in regional stability, but at some point their leaders may want to actually use their modernized military to demonstrate that all their sabre-rattling in recent years is not just for show. :armyeek:

WHY CHINA WON'T GO TO WAR | War is not in its interest and other reasons, from Beijing's new envoy

By: Veronica C. Uy, InterAksyon.com
April 25, 2014 6:43 PM

The online news portal of TV5

MANILA, Philippines – Going to war “is not in the interest of China,” new Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Zhao Jian Hua declared at Thursday night’s celebration of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s birthday hosted by the British embassy.

Going to war means disrupting China’s development, particularly trade and investment, he said, noting that 80 percent of the goods that go in and out of China, and particularly 90 percent of its energy and mineral sources, pass through the disputed South China Sea.

“With the territorial dispute in the South China Sea, a lot of Filipinos think that China will go to war; that is not China's interest to do that. Because once there is a conflict, no matter the scale, there will be a disruption of investment and disruption of trade.

The trade of goods being exported or imported to China that pass through the South China Sea is 80 percent; the energy and minerals that pass through the South China Sea nearly 90 percent. When we talk about the freedom of navigation, I think South China Sea is most important for China,” Zhao said.

The top Chinese diplomat in the country said a major factor in China’s current prosperity is the peace and stability in the region, and maintaining these in its neighborhood is in its interest.

China Is Fine With Obama's Trip to Asia - Except for Japan
By Shannon Tiezzi
April 29, 2014

Even with regards to the new U.S.-Philippines defense cooperation agreement, Qin's response was restrained. He noted Obama's repeated reassurances that the U.S. does not intend to contain China, and again said that China will be watching "what the U.S. says and does" to evaluate this claim. Qin also added that the U.S. and China share "a wide range of common interests in the Asia-Pacific," a more optimistic note than might have been expected after the U.S. inked a defense agreement with one of the most vocal parties in China's maritime disputes.

Likewise, a commentary in Xinhua warned that the Philippine government might use increased defense ties with the U.S. as leverage to confront China. However, Xinhua framed this as a common danger for both China and the U.S.: "A more assertive or even reckless Manila would stoke regional tensions and in turn upset Obama's policy of rebalancing," the article said. The article even noted approvingly that Obama had "Shattered (its allies') illusion that Washington might support them at all costs in their territorial disputes with China."

This sentiment was in direct opposition to the flurry of articles condemning Obama's reassurance to Japan that the Senkaku/Diaoyu Islands would be covered by the U.S.-Japan defense treaty. "Obama's defense commitment would leave the United States hijacked by Japanese rightwing forces and turn Japan-U.S. military alliance into a war machine," one commentary in Xinhua warned. An article in People's Daily argued that "America's pursuit of its own private interests at the expense of postwar peace is encouraging Japan's excesses."

The different media responses may be sending a message to Washington: Beijing is willing to accept the pivot as long as it does not result in a militarized Japan. Obama's visits to South Korea, Malaysia, and even the Philippines were met with fairly mild responses from China's media and officials. It was only Obama's stop in Tokyo that China took serious issue with.

FOCUS: Philippines draws up plan to ensure access to hydrocarbon reserves the S. China Sea
By Dario Agnote
MANILA, May 6, Kyodo

The Philippine military has drawn up a four-year plan to beef up its security fence in the South China Sea to deter China from occupying more features, including those in the energy resource-rich areas in the disputed sea, a senior military official told Kyodo News on Tuesday.

The move is to protect the Philippines' "national interests" in the wake of China's "increasing poaching activities within the Philippines' exclusive economic zones, harassment of Filipino fishermen and increased presence of Chinese vessels and aircraft in the disputed sea."

"(The plan includes) beefing up the forces of military's western command in occupied islands while increasing the presence of northern command units in (Bajo de Masinloc). It is highly evident now that the recent incidents are already on the east of the Mischief Reef. This shows that the foreign intrusions are closer to our shorelines, which increase the threat level to our country," according to a classified assessment paper seen by Kyodo News.

'CHINA WANTS REED BANK'

"China will occupy Reed Bank. It is highly possible that China is determined to assert its claim politically and militarily."

Citing China's strategy, the official said it also plans to occupy Sabina Shoal, Amy Douglas Shoal and Boxall Reef, which the Philippines considers part of its exclusive economic zone. "Occupying these shoals and reef is vital in creeping towards Reed Bank."

"Occupation of Boxall Reef will restrict our activities in Second Thomas Shoal (Ayungin Shoal) and could put pressure for us to abandon that shoal. To address this situation, our current efforts are geared towards the forward deployment of two patrol vessels and two reconnaissance air assets at Pag-Asa Island (Thitu Island)."

KALAYAAN TASK FORCE

"(There is a need to) beef-up forces at the Philippine-held islands and the activation of a Kalayaan Island Group (KIG) joint task force utilizing a marine brigade of troops. With the projected gas exploration at Reed Bank, we need to develop Nanshan Island being the closest to it. There is a need to build a pier and helipad in that area and improve the buildings to bolster our security on this island," says the paper.

The military also plans to repair the airstrip on Thitu Island and the construction of a pier to accommodate its air and naval assets.

"There is a need to improve the naval support facilities at naval stations Carlito Cunanan, Narciso del Rosario and Balabac to boost our defense capabilities at the backdoor. Rehabilitation of Tarumpitao airstrip is also vital in support of our operations in the South China Sea... This air strip was formerly the Loran Station of the U.S. forces and at present it is occupied by the Philippine air force. We also need the repair of Samariniana airstrip for joint combined operations."

"We need to achieve a good satellite communications, radar monitoring system with full command and control and coast watch stations to all (nine) Philippine-held Nanshan Island, Thitu Island and Commodore Reef by the end of this year. Parola (Lankiam Cay) will be the second in order of priority being in the northernmost part of the KIG. Likas (West York Island) will be on 2016, while Patag (Flat Island), Panata (Northeast Cay) and Kota (Loaita Island) will be on 2018."

There is a need to launch a "sustained information strategy. We need to initiate and information strategy that will mainstream and raise awareness in order to gain publicity and generate more supporters globally," the paper says.
