Strong words indeed. I have apprehensions but I am slightly in favor of it. |

Respond militarily doesn't necessarily mean opening fire. Having PF-15/PF-16 or PCG vessels escorting fishing vessels is a also viable option. |

A military response is foolhardy. Likelyhood of the US to help may reduce as we started it militarily. If by force they mean to open fire i would say a nono to the military. It will be a bad image for the military to strike on a civ organisation. As said before were falling into a trap patience and discipline let them fire the 1st shot. If using force then counter their coastguard with our coastguard. A confrontation should be the last resort, give them the bad publicity, let us win our allies heart |

Indonesia suggests Philippine-Asean synergy on S. China Sea Bagus BT Saragih The Jakarta Post Publication Date : 25-02-2014 "We have just renewed our commitment that territorial disputes in the South China Sea, or what the Philippines calls the West Philippine Sea, be resolved through peaceful, diplomatic means, or in the case of the Philippines, through the tribunal processes that they have engaged in. Whatever the choice of avenue, the most important point is that this must be resolved by peaceful means not by others that are not peaceful. What I have highlighted is that legal efforts and political diplomacy must be synergized. We don’t want to see one as counterproductive to the other." - Marty Natalegawa, Indonesian Foreign Minister Asia News Network Edited by Hong Nam, Feb 25 2014, 11:43 PM.

Why China Isn't Interested in a South China Sea Code of Conduct By Shannon Tiezzi February 26, 2014 A South China Sea code of conduct would threaten Beijing's interests - so don't expect much progress in negotiations. China has resisted coming into to negotiations with a sample draft, and from Indonesia's proposal it's not hard to see why. China's navy routinely conducts exercises in disputed regions, and the Chinese Coast Guard also patrols the water as a way of asserting Chinese control. If a code of conduct would outlaw such activities, it's hard to imagine why China would sign on to it. China wants the U.S. excluded from regional conversations, and will not move forward on a code of conduct until the U.S. butts out. Consensus will be difficult to forge, but no ASEAN member state would recommend moving forward on a code of conduct without it. Since the U.S. has repeatedly stated it has an interest in the peaceful resolution of the South China Sea disputes, such 'interference' is unlikely to go away anytime soon. The U.S. will continue to voice its support for a code of conduct, which China will interpret as unwanted interference. U.S. involvement in the process allows some in China to deny that ASEAN itself is interested in a code of conduct, and which provides an excuse for Beijing to drag its feet on the process. China loses little and gains much by stalling the code of conduct talks - or at least making sure the final version is so watered down as to be essentially meaningless. The Diplomat |

Yes, some years back , I recall that not all of these PCE class ships were ready for sea or just sitting in dock,. not sure if they have been scrapped. otherwise, just transfer them to the PCG so they can be painted white.... or have the PCG ask the USCG for their older WMECs(medium class cutters) if they are available. I also seem to vaguely recall that the 2 PN's WHECs will replace the PN's 2 AUK-class ships(not sure), if thats the case, then transfer the 2 AUKs together with some PCEs to the PCG for ramming/bumping purposes Edited by pachador, Feb 28 2014, 04:59 AM.
