Washington has longstanding security treaties with two of China's adversaries in the dispute, Japan and the Philippines.
In the case of Japan, Washington explicitly has said the islands Tokyo administers and calls the Senkakus - and which China claims as the Diaoyu islands - would be covered by their 1951 security treaty in the event of attack.
The Philippines has not received such U.S. assurances over its disputed islets, but is getting American help improving its tiny navy in the face of increased Chinese pressure.

Wow masyadong BIAS and :bs: naman ito! Thus UNCLOS only apply to the RICH??? :headbang:

THIS IS A MMMORE IMPORTANT ISSUE FOR OUR PH CONGRESS AND SENATE TO ADDRESS THAN ANYTHING ELSE, CONSIDERING OUR PRESENT TERRITORIAL ISSUES WITH CHINA! WHY ARE THEY TURNING A BLIND EYE WITH REGARDS TO SCARBOROUGH SHOAL OF THE PHILIPPINES???

This gives us also an idea on what kind of Military equipments, weapons and munitions they'll supply the AFP.. NON LETHAL! :armyLol: pang kiliti lang sa China...

THE PHILIPPINES should concentrate and use more of it's (AFPM Budget)money, to give priority on Military hardware acquisitions from Countries like Russia and EU Countries like UK, France, Spain, Sweden, Germany and others.

Now, this is a wake up call for PNOY, for our strategies, consultants, DND and generals. It means that Philippines shared the least priorities of US when it comes to their foreign policy. Whether we have a MDT with them, it is not an assurance of help when worst scenario occurs. It also coves why Gen. Pama react this way" with or without the US we will fight and depend our sovereignty."

^whats troubling me more AVB is the presidents' new directive to PCG, marching orders to defend panatag shoal. Without the ships from france or Japan, we simply have no means to scuttle them away.

Cont. from PN future Corvettes thread.

Do you have a link bro? :salute:

Ipag dasal nalang natin na this move coincides wih the US with their full backing para less casualty sa atin or like I said huwag sana maging "Kamikaze" move ito dahil wala tayong kalaban laban. In this case, "We need to spill our blood in order to be heard."

Either way it will still be a negative effect for P.Noy's Govt. whether we make a move or not...

PNoy's only lucky chance is that if China changes it's mind and withdraws it's new, soon to be implemented Policing law plans or if the US decides to support all the way and give China something to think about... :dunno:

Philippines Running Out of Options in South China Sea Disputes

Posted Image
MANILA — Earlier this year, the Philippines and China teetered on the brink of direct military confrontation over the Scarborough Shoal in the South China Sea, precipitating a series of high-stakes diplomatic exchanges that prevented open conflict but left the underlying dispute unresolved.

Although the episode jolted the Filipino leadership into recognizing the perils of armed brinkmanship with China, Manila’s subsequent diplomatic approach to the conflict has achieved little. After almost seven months of intensive diplomatic engagement with China and the states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), regional maritime tensions are still on the rise. Now, facing a potentially more assertive China under a new leadership, and in the absence of an effective regional approach to the ongoing territorial disputes, the Philippines seems to be running out of diplomatic options.

^^From the video itself, i see no progress in upgrading the airstrip, none at all.

Some of our authorities maybe hesitating to do so as to not increase tensions but I hope they re-consider esp. after China has inducted Sansha city. China is building a small city for heaven's sake. A paved air-strip is nothing. Let them react all they want. They always react to the smallest of things anyway.

I say improve the airstrip. Mr. Ice is right. Might as well do something as these clowns react to anything. They even reacted to the school being built in Kalayaan Island. I wouldn't be surprised if they would protest if a self-flushing toilet, hot-cold showers, and a jacuzzi are installed.
