Duterte clueless on Chinese harassment of Filipino troops on Ayungin Shoal

Patricia Lourdes Viray (philstar.com) - June 6, 2018 - 10:04am

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines quietly filed a protest against China's harassment of Filipino troops conducting resupply missions to Ayungin Shoal but the country's chief diplomat appears to be unaware of the incident.

When asked if he got mad that the Chinese harassed Filipino soldiers, President Rodrigo Duterte said he did not know about the incident as he was busy talking to Korean officials.

"What kind of harassment in the first place before—before I commit myself to answer the question, what kind of harassment was this?" Duterte told reporters upon arriving from South Korea Tuesday night.

Duterte added that it was the first time that he heard about the harassment of Filipino troops on Ayungin Shoal in the West Philippine Sea

Duterte on South China Sea dispute: Why will soldiers fight a war they would lose?
Dharel Placido, ABS-CBN News

Posted at Jun 06 2018 06:08 PM

MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte has again asserted he would not want to go to war with China over unresolved disputes in the South China Sea, saying soldiers may not be willing to fight a war they would surely lose.

Duterte, criticized for his friendly stance towards the Chinese, insisted that the Philippines is not capable of confronting China's military might and that the Philippine military is aware of this.

“Madali sabihin ‘yan. Kung ako ang military, ako ang general, utusan mo ako na pumunta ka doon, magpakamatay ka, samahan mo ‘yung sundalo mo, sabihin ko, ‘f*** y**. Why do I have to do that?’” Duterte said in a press briefing upon arriving from South Korea Tuesday night.

(That’s easy to say. If I were a military general and you told me to go there and commit suicide with my soldiers, I will say, ‘f*** y**. Why do I have to do that?)

As again.... a no-brainer alibi and cover-up.
Why go to war if he is fully-supporting China? Lol.

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines will file a protest against the reported taking by Chinese coast guard of the catch of Filipino fishermen on Scarborough Shoal if the incident is "established," a spokesman for President Rodrigo Duterte said on Friday.

In a report by GMA News, Chinese coast guard speedboat approached the boats of Filipino fishermen where its news team was also aboard.

The Chinese coast guard personnel could be seen asking for fish from Filipinos and went aboard their vessel and opened containers of their catch.

Alejano says Duterte stopped AFP patrols in South China Sea, military denies
ABS-CBN News

Posted at Jun 09 2018 02:53 PM

MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte ordered government troops to stop patrols in the disputed South China Sea but was met by opposition, Magdalo party-list Rep. Gary Alejano said Saturday, days after the commander-in-chief said that waging war against China would result in a "massacre" of Filipino soldiers.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) was not in favor of the directive to halt its watch amid continuing Chinese militarization in the area, said Alejano who attributed the information to his sources.

"Ang sabi ng Armed Forces, 'Teka muna that is our mandate. We will [be] remiss [in] our mandate to protect our sovereignty," Alejano, a former Marine, said in a forum in Quezon City.

No Duterte order to stop patrols in South China Sea - aide
ABS-CBN News

MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte did not order government troops to stop patrols in the disputed South China Sea, his special assistant, Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go, said Sunday.

Magdalo party-list Rep. Gary Alejano claimed Saturday that Duterte issued the halt directive, but that the military was not in favor of the order and and compromised with the Palace to limit its patrols to the strategic waterway to once a month.

This is now what we call washing of the hands. As per required by China, yes, there was a verbal order and there was a prepared written order to the to stop the patrols. But it was not acceptable, and it was scrapped. Now, DuRoqCay are trying to deny it to save their own a$$ and to protect the interest of China.

Filipino fishermen ask gov't to act on 'barter' with Chinese coast guard
Patricia Lourdes Viray (philstar.com) - June 11, 2018 - 3:35pm

MANILA, Philippines — Local fishermen called on the Philippine government to address the fish-taking incident with Chinese coast guard personnel at Scarborough Shoal in the West Philippine Sea.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque on Monday confirmed that the Chinese coast guard has been conducting a sort of barter trade with Filipino fishermen in the traditional fishing ground off the coast of Zambales.

Speaking in a Malacañang press briefing, fisherman Romel Cejuela narrated how the Chinese have been boarding their boats and taking away their catch from Scarborough Shoal.
