Since 2016, Du30 had been presented "multiple time" with all diplomatic options, and had been given several revisions of the options "multiple times" and also being reminded of the options multiple times.
Du30's response: What will you do if China declares war? I cannot agitate China. Let them take what they want. I cannot make war with China.

Tanga lang ang understanding? War daw? Wait... Indo, Jap, SK, Malaysia, Viet all are protecting their areas. Was there war? Du30 is giving false information for his hidden benefits from China

Philippines, China draw 'red lines' in South China Sea dispute
Patricia Lourdes Viray (philstar.com) - May 29, 2018 - 3:46pm

MANILA, Philippines — Both the Philippines and China have identified actions that would be deemed unacceptable in the South China Sea, the Philippines' top diplomat said Monday.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano said that the Philippines has informed China of some "red lines" over the disputed waterway.

"What is our red line? Our red line is that they cannot build on Scarborough [Shoal]," Cayetano in Filipino said during a flag-raising ceremony at the Department of Foreign Affairs.

The Philippines also warned China against attempting to remove the BRP Sierra Madre, a Philippine Navy ship anchored near Second Thomas or Ayungin Shoal in the West Philippine Sea.

Philippines lost Sandy Cay to China, Alejano tells Cayetano

Patricia Lourdes Viray (philstar.com) - May 29, 2018 - 5:13pm

MANILA, Phillippines — Rep. Gary Alejano (Magdalo party-list) on Tuesday reminded Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano that the Philippines effectively lost control of Sandy Cay in the West Philippine Sea under the Duterte administration.

The Magdalo lawmaker was responding to the DFA secretary's challenge to prove that the country lost an island to Beijing in the time of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Diplomatic assertiveness should be backed by a military force strong enough to deter China. If China retaliates by starting to build a "weather station" or a "fishermen shelter" on Scarborough shoal, further diplomatic protests not backed by a credible military would just be brushed aside.

Esperon: No need to protest China's bombers in South China Sea
Patricia Lourdes Viray (philstar.com) - May 30, 2018 - 11:00am

MANILA, Philippines — Echoing China's justification of deploying a bomber aircraft in the South China Sea, National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon Jr. stressed that Beijing's activities are not directed at Manila.

Esperon said that the Chinese Air Force's deployment of a nuclear-capable bomber aircraft on Woody Island in the Paracels should not be a cause for alarm.

"Are we the target? Should we be alarmed? I do not think so because we are not at war with China and we are not at war with ASEAN," Esperon said during the Kapihan sa Manila Bay forum.

"Should we launch a protest against that? I don't think so," he added.

MANILA- The Philippines is building five lighthouses on the Kalayaan Group of Islands, a feature of Spratlys claimed by Manila in the West Philippine Sea, National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon said Wednesday.

This, amid recent reports of China's continued militarization of the disputed waters.

"We note with serious concern the growing militarization in the area, such as the deployment of military assets, especially on features near the Philippine territory," Esperon said.

Philippines' Duterte Threatens War in South China Sea
Newsweek

Two members of President Rodrigo Duterte's government have discussed the possibility of war in the disputed waters of the South China Sea, where China has built several man-made islands to strengthen its territorial claims and equipped them with military facilities.

Duterte's National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon said that the Philippines will always pursue diplomacy to defuse tensions, but that it would also be prepared to enter a conflict should their military forces be provoked or hurt. “The other night, the president said if his troops are harmed, that could be his red line,” Esperon told reporters on Wednesday, quoted in Reuters.

The waters surrounding the Spratly Islands, an archipelago consisting of more than 100 small islands or reefs around 500 miles from China's coast, see the presence of various military contingents from China, but also from Taiwan, Vietnam, Malaysia and the Philippines, all countries that make territorial claims to the area, along with Brunei, which claims it as part of its exclusive economic area.

"Properly manage" can mean a lot of things if the Chinese state media is the one saying it:
