‘Too much, too soon,’ expert warns on PH-China sea study
By: Redempto Anda - @inquirerdotnet
Philippine Daily Inquirer / 07:08 AM March 04, 2018

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY — A maritime expert has questioned Malacañang’s pronouncement that it is considering a “joint exploration” with China for potential energy deposits in an undisputed Philippine territory some 50 kilometers off Busuanga town in Palawan province, identified as Service Contract (SC) 57.

Lawyer Jay Batongbacal, director of the University of the Philippines Institute for Maritime Affairs and Law of the Sea, said in a social media post that the government’s plan to include the area in a deal offer made by China to jointly explore the Reed Bank area in the West Philippine Sea (WPS) was “giving too much, too soon” to the country’s favored neighbor.

Malampaya gas fields would run out in a few years time. This probably the reason why the ph govt is looking for an alternative energy source. They want to know ASAP if Reed Bank could be a feasible alternative and then prepare their energy plans accordingly.

Considering China's continuous aggressive behaviour and illegal activities in WPS, Filipinos are super st%pid, especially the present Govt. if they allow a Joint Exploration of any kind with China. :headbang:

PDu30's reasoning regarding his Govt's approach and "mala-patriotic" words of "bola" accompanied with a "kambyo"(shift) that always favours Beijing are acts of unbecoming of a leader of a Country and UNPATRIOTIC in reality..

AND If ever the Du30 Govt. will allow this to happen, it pretty much describes what this present Govt. is all about.. A SELL OUT? :dunno:

WE are NOT asking him to go to war with China in WPS, but for him to REALLY PREPARE to strengthen the Country's Military that is enough to give caution to China, NOT to concede anything that involves China in PH Territories & Rights in WPS and Benham Rise.

"Alam na pala niya na dehado ang mga kawal niya, eh bakit wala siyang ginagawa o binibili na talagang makakatulong sa pagpapalakas ng kanyang Hukbong Sandatahan.

Pinag yayabang niya ang pakikipagkaibigan sa Russia pero wala naman malinaw yata na plano at puro delaying tactics lang ang nangyayari..?"

If PDU30 really is sincere on his so called "INDEPENDENT FOREIGN POLICY" and sincere in defending and protecting his Military, the Country's interests and the Filipino People, he can easily ask Putin to sell PH some of the ff which require minimal training/ waiting compared to buying WARSHIPS, Submarines etc..

FYI, The first thing that he should have done in the first place is to strengthen his Country's Military, IF he really means to and wants to change n engage into an INDEPENDENT Foreign Policy.

For starters for PN: (For Self Defense Purpose)

-(Russia) MANPADS, Mobile Anti Air and Anti Surface Missile Systems and MLRS, something that can be easily deployed/installed on current PN Ships PF-15,16 and the SSV's as SDP/ CIWS.

For PAF: A possible request to order n purchase (12) SU-30 MRFs and at least (8) Attack Helicopters with initial weapons.

-Install PROPER "AIR n SURFACE Search Radars", Missile Defense Systems on all of these PN Ships above.

Any "Current" and "Future" acquisitions of Defensive Military Assets like Frigates etc. MRFs, AHs and the (6) Super Tucano CAS should arrive with it's initial proper weapons and ammunition as package.

If Russia really is sincere and meant every word of what their Govt. Reps said on helping the Philippines, all of these possible request should be easy peasy for PH to get a hold of what it is longing for, to have an instant credible defense for it to start with...

As the President of the Republic, he must ALWAYS uphold the Philippines interests & rights FIRST, ALWAYS, according to Constitution.

P.S.

I do agree with putting the WPS Issues aside to defuse tentions, while giving TOP PRIORITY to (Immediate) AFP's "Territorial Defense" Modernisation, BUT, while also NOT to engage on any negotiations of what so ever with regards to JOINT EXPLORATIONS of any kind with China in any PH Territories.

China sea dispute still a challenge, defense chief says
Reuters

Posted at Mar 27 2018 12:55 AM

MANILA - The territorial dispute with Beijing over the South China Sea remained a security challenge despite an improvement in bilateral ties, the Philippine defense chief said on Monday as he accepted three maritime surveillance planes from Japan.

Delfin Lorenzana, in a speech at a naval base south of the capital Manila, said the three Japanese donated second-hand TC90 planes will definitely boost the navy's capability to gather intelligence in the disputed South China Sea.

Public Treason by Du30: "I will sell you the WPS if Philippines is very rich and if there is no threat of war for us to have peace"

WTF, a piece for peace!? No stup!d or insane rich country or its head of state/president or without war ever sold or gave away its own piece to other countries.

A little bit to late but still worth posting:

Lorenzana also said that if China indeed put up or place the signal jammers it’s because they knew the US Navy ships are armed.

He also admitted that the country cannot stop China from putting signal jammers.

“Hindi nga natin sila napigilan noong mag umpisa silang mag reclaim (We cannot even stop them from their reclamation),” he said.

It's already a white flag for the Philippines against China.

1 island = 1 project/loan from China. After the term of PDU30, we would no longer have the count of 7,100 islands since most of it would be payment for the loans that China has offered and worst that includes Benham Rise.

Will Manila protest military planes?

GOTCHA - Jarius Bondoc (The Philippine Star) - April 20, 2018 - 12:00am

In landing air force transport planes on Panganiban Reef, Beijing lied to the world about not militarizing its artificial islands in the South China Sea. It reneged on promises to Manila of non-provocative acts. The region is watching what the Duterte administration will do.

Two Chinese military aircraft were photographed on the landing strip on Panganiban, internationally known as Mischief Reef. Parked meters apart, the planes apparently arrived together early this year. Panganiban is within the Philippines’ 200-mile exclusive economic zone, and 600 miles from China.

Diplomatic protest is in order, experts say. Asked by reporters, Foreign Sec. Alan Peter Cayetano avoided talking of such action. He said he has yet to verify the photos, published by the Inquirer Wednesday. He supposedly does not know if the photos, dated Jan. 6, 2018, came from the Philippine military.

Cayetano: Government has more info on South China Sea than in media reports
Patricia Lourdes Viray (philstar.com) - April 18, 2018 - 7:17pm

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine government is on top of recent developments in the South China Sea, Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano said Wednesday.

The secretary made this statement in response to a newspaper report that Chinese military transport aircraft have been spotted on Panganiban, or Mischief, Reef, where Beijing has installed military facilities.

Cayetano said that the US and Japan have been helping the Philippines monitor the country's territory.

"In fact, we know much more than what is published in the newspapers or released by US think tanks because we see the bigger picture, so I have to first thank them because the starting point is fact-finding and being able to monitor," Cayetano said in a press briefing.
