What the conspiracy theorist in me is afraid of is since federalism is being pushed mightily by this government, it is an opportunity that our "honorable" lawmakers will take to modify the constitution to enable the working out of an agreement that heavily favors the chinese without violating the constitution.

Certain congress leaders had been going to china the past months to meet with their counterparts. and then there is mickey joe de venecia who is suddenly out of retirement lobbying heavily for joint exploitation of the WPS. So it is possible, and we should be vigilant.

Philippines spurns advice over South China Sea row
Kyodo News

The Philippines does not want to hear from other countries, including Japan and the United States, what to do over a territorial dispute with China in the South China Sea, the country's top diplomat said Tuesday.

"We are a sovereign nation. We will decide what is good for us and what strategy is good for us," Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano said. "We respect their views but the problem of a territorial dispute between China and the Philippines is between China and the Philippines."

China followed plan on disputed sea, former envoy says
Gillan Ropero, ABS-CBN News

Former ambassador to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Orly Mercado on Tuesday said China will agree to the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea because it has already reclaimed and militarized some of the disputed areas.

“They have followed their plan. They have already been able to establish their presence and they have now practically two aircraft carriers that are unsinkable,” Mercado said in an interview with ANC.

“They have de facto control over quite a large area and militarization of existing facilities to which we have not really spoken against loudly,” he added.

Thank you unnamed ASEAN members for doing our foreign affairs secretary's job and looking out for our common interests.

DFA Secretary did not want land reclamation, militarization mentioned in Joint Communiqué

The Philippines did not want to mention land reclamation and militarization in the joint communique of the foreign ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano revealed on Tuesday.

In a media briefing, Cayetano said the phrase in the draft of the communique was "not reflective of the present position."

"I didn't want to include it... They're not reclaiming land anymore, so why will you put it again here?" Cayetano said. "But since there was reclamation in the past, and you can start to reclaim again, and that was the general sentiment, I accepted it." ...

"If I insisted that that won't be there, there's a possibility it won't be there, there's a possibility we won't have a joint communiqué," he added.
God grant me the courage not to give up what I think is right even though I think it is hopeless.

China followed plan on disputed sea...
1. They followed the plan to ignore the ruling and continue to fabricate an island.
2. They followed the plan to prevent fisherman and let Chinese vessels fish in the area.
3. They followed the to militarize covertly
4. They followed the plan to finish the island building and structures then tell the int'l community that they have no construction.

"WE" referred to the executive branch, not referred to the people, not referred to the Philippine nation.

What is good for the country to to seek advise and listen to the recommendations. Hwg na mayabang.
When there was recommendation based on intel on the terrorist, did they listen? Hind. Nagmayabang. Then they blame others.

So what will happen soon, PDU30 will again blame US and intl community for not helping. Parang utak China, binabaliktad ang situation, ginagawang t4ng4 ang mamamayan.

"I didn't want to include it... " Basically, when there had been an ongoing reclaimation, the new PH govt did do anything and used the blaming game.

We have the most epic leaders this period... a lawyer who does not follow the law, and foreign affairs who is not a diplomat. Worst, they are here to please China, as they have supported in the past. DFA Sec was one of those critics (few years back) of the F-16 coz "he was sure that China will not invade mainland PH". He seems to have assurance as long as PH will not increase military external defense capacity.

President Duterte has expressed willingness to temporarily set aside the ruling to improve the Philippines’ ties with China. But he promised to bring up the tribunal’s decision before Chinese leaders within his term.

But remember that one of China's pre-conditions: Recognize that SCS within the 9-dash line is China's ownership and control.
