MANILA, Philippines – Several Facebook posts stirred a debate on the practices inside the Philippine Military Academy (PMA), in particular the Honor Code, just as the school prepared for the arrival of thousands of alumni for their annual homecoming Saturday, February 15.

The foster parent of graduating Cadet Jeff Aldrin Cudia said on Facebook that Cudia was in danger of being “dismissed from service” because of a “trivial matter.” Cudia was being punished for going to class 2 minutes late, she said.

“I hope they would be fair. This kid worked so hard and endured so much (never cheated) for 4 years to be among the top then for such a flimsy reason, you will deprive him of serving the country?,” wrote Ched Estigoy Arzadon in a Facebook post on February 9. Arzadon is the foster parent of Cudia who hails from Pampanga.

Cadet Jeff Aldrin Cudia should not be dismissed from the PMA over a very trivial matter. Being two minutes late for class does not warrant his being dismissed. Whoever passed judgement on the cadet was acting in a very arbitrary matter as a judge, jury and executioner. Due process prevails even in the academy. The academy cannot afford to lose cadets in this manner. It would be self-defeating since such a loss could result in demoralization. Cohesion and esprit de corps must be maintained. A hasty judgement should never be passed on a cadet as this will be contrary to leadership principles.

AFP: Cadet found guilty of lying getting another chance
February 20, 2014 10:34am

Armed Forces of the Philippines public affairs head Lt. Col. Ramon Zagala said Thursday graduating Cadet Aldrin Jeff Cudia had resigned after he was found violating the Honor Code.

Earlier, Avee said her brother received 11 demerits and 13 hours of touring as a consequence of being late, but he appealed the sanctions as he said his tardiness was not his fault.

Cudia claimed their previous professor had dismissed them late, causing him to come late to his next class.

The PMA Honor Committee considered Cudia's statement a lie since he was not dismissed late but was made to wait after class to receive a document from his professor.

Also, Cudia's family questioned why the other cadets who were also late got only eight demerits and eight hours of touring.

I truly sympathize with Cadet Cudia and his family. However being a member of the PMA, you are destined to be one our future leaders, generals and or perhaps even our president. If the allegations are true, a violation of the Honor Code can never be compromised in any way shape or form no matter how trivial it is. :nono:

That was not the first case of graduating cadets violating the honor code.

Here's an update on the Cadet Cudia case. Frankly, in my opinion, this is not a case that had to go all the way to the Philippine president. It should have been dealt within the PMA, or at least within just the AFP at the least. No need for presidential involvement.

Cudia not joining PMA graduation as PNoy hands probe over to AFP chief

MANILA, Philippines -- Aldrin Cudia will not be joining the graduation ceremonies of Philippine Military Academy “Sikab Diwa” Class of 2014 on Sunday as President Benigno Aquino III left the fate of the cadet first class hanging, deciding to hand the case back to Armed Forces of the Philippines chief of staff General Emmanuel Bautista.

This was the agreement reached between Cudia’s family and Aquino during their meeting in Baguio City Saturday afternoon, Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin said.

In a statement Saturday evening, Gazmin said he and Aquino had met with Cudia’s family “and heard them out” earlier in the day.

“They had appeals, requests and also raised some issues,” Gazmin said. “We made sure that they were given every opportunity to air their side.”

MANILA, Philippines - Dismissed Cadet First Class Aldrin Jeff Cudia left the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) in Fort del Pilar, Baguio City Sunday night several hours after the graduation of the “Siklab Diwa” Class of 2014.

“We released him to his parents, his sister and a lawyer from the Public Attorney’s Office,” Major Lynette Flores, head of the PMA’s Public Affairs Office, said in a phone interview Monday.

According to Flores, Cudia had the option to leave the PMA premises since February 10, the day his indefinite leave became effective after he was dismissed from the Cadet Corps by the Honor Code Committee for lying about why he was two minutes late for class.

In a memorandum adressed to Philippine Miltary Academy (PMA) Superintendent Major General Oscar Lopez, it said the newly created special investigation board should look into the matters raised by Cudia during his meeting with President Aquino on Saturday, a day before his supposed graduation from the academy.

The memorandum said “The board will also review and evaluate the findings made relative to the reccomendation of the Philippine Military Academy to separate CDT First Class Cudia from the Academy for violation of the Honor Code pursuant to Section VII of the Cadet Corps Armed Forces of the Philippines Regulations Series of 2008 and be barred from future appointment and/or admission as cadet and shall not be permitted to qualify from any entrance requirements to the Academy.”

It added, “The board shall have authority to summon witnesses and require submission of pertinent, documents, if any, and recommend appropriate actions based on their findings.”

Major General Crisologo Nayve of the AFP heads the said investigation board.

Insisting on military career will make Cudia a 'leper' - ex-AFP chief Biazon

By: Lira Dalangin-Fernandez, InterAksyon.com
March 18, 2014 12:34 PM

MANILA, Philippines -- A former chief of staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines advised dismissed Philippine Military Academy senior cadet Jeff Aldrin Cudia to move on, saying insisting on a career in the uniformed service would only make a “leper” out of him.

At the same time, Muntinlupa Representative Rodolfo Biazon, who also served a stint as PMA superintendent during his service, joined calls to give Cudia his diploma and transcript of records to ease him into civilian life.

"I would advise that he (Cudia) should not anymore stay in the service because he would be a leper out there," Biazon told a news conference Tuesday.
