MANILA, Philippines – Philippine National Police chief Alan Purisima said the PNP would buy aircraft and maritime equipment in anticipation of disasters.

Quote:

In a command conference, Purisima cited the importance of having an airlift capability following an assessment of the PNP’s performance in recent calamities where it encountered difficulties in transporting its personnel to affected areas.

“The PNP was having difficulty with transportation. Our vehicles are mobile cars . . . our sole chopper crashed in Kalinga,” said Purisima, referring to the accident last June 19, when the PNP helicopter carrying three police ffficials crashed while on their way to Kalinga for a marijuana eradication drive. The three policemen were hurt in the incident.

“We need military-type vehicles that can climb mountains when roads are damaged,” Purisima added.

The police chief said the PNP has proposed the procurement of aircraft and maritime exquipment.

“I’m not very particular how many but we are trying to get fix-wing, rotary wing, and water assets also,” he said.

May I suggest for the helo that the PNP should just choose between a Bell412 and a AW109 variant so that they have commonalities with the PN and PAF. For the fix-wing either a variant of who ever wins the seaplane or the light-lift w/c ever fits the budget also for commonality and logistics reasoning. Water assets? Riverines sana pero not sure of US will give it to PNP. MPACs na lang siguro minus sophisticated equipments and more for SAR role.

Check on the water capabilities of the PNP here

BTW, I remember a few months ago the SILG said that helicopters are not a priority with the PNP Modernization program.

why not get AW109P as well. I think FLIR and a spotlight will be good option. Atleast the PNP can maybe use some local training to save money.

I remember the PNP wanted troop carriers for their COIN operation. The Huey or it's variants like the 412 comes to mind which are good as troop carriers and for SAR ops.

MD helicopter is enough for the PNP.. Dont give them anything that will make them comfortable. Im afraid that they will just use the choppers as their service.
Leave the SAR to our AFP..

Sobra ka naman maverick... Kung tutuusin mas mahirap ang trabaho ng pulis, lalo na mga pulis probinsya.

PNP are the usual targets of rebels for ambush for they are poorly armed. Once areas are cleared by the AFP, it the PNPs task to secure it to avoid militarization but in most cases this cant be done since the police will just be overpowered by the rebels.

Search and Rescue is everybody's concern. Actually one of the responsibilities of LGUs in their own AOR. The police is an agency in LGUs. SAR duties is secondary for our AFP. It so happens that they are the Gov't agency that has the assets to assist LGUs when needed. Equip the LGUs with the needed assets, they could respond quickly than going over the red tapes in getting assistance from the AFP.

Whenever there's a talk of PNP acquiring helicopters, my sentiments of modernization dont extend to them.
Their latest acquisition of "new" helicopter from the past administration still lingers.
Anyway i dont want to further my thoughts on the topic, just wanted you guys to know that given a choice of who would i want to have a chopper between the AFP and PNP. I would rather give it to our armed forces.

We are talking of 2 different agencies here. One who has a civilian function and another military. Both got their shares of corruption. It's time to modernize. Hopefully, sa daang matuwid. :drunk:

pnp needs to modernize as well mav. dont worry about that lingering thought about the last time they bought helos. the bills collector is collecting already :rifle:

a light helo for them will be great. maybe more fennecs / squirrel or sw4 will be of great help for their cause. maybe a few 412 for for hq for greater sar need
