If those working in Hongkong agreed too that would not be the problem to me, anyways its not our lost its their since according to one report we are exporting electronics part to them and that would hit their economy too. If only we can offer jobs here locally we can all pullout or workers abroad and let them find their own skilled workers.

With all the tragedies and calamities that our country experiencing.. Cant help but noticed CHINA only care but themselves. All they want is their interest while nations all over the world expressing compassion and support to us. Never in any news that they gave us aid and even sympathy. Now people here wanted us to be very careful on what we are to say towards them. Give me a break..

HK residents warned vs insulting typhoon victims (abs-cbnnews.com)

The Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC), in a press statement, said that under Hong Kong's Race Discrimination Ordinance, "it is unlawful for a person, by any activity in public, to incite hatred towards, serious contempt for, or severe ridicule of, another person or members of a class of persons on the ground of their race." <snipped> Last week, CY Leung issued a warning that he would impose the sanction if Manila failed to meet the demands of the families of the victims.

PNoy offers 'token' to HK bus siege survivor needing surgery
- Quote:
-
11/19 (abs-cbnnews.com) "President Aquino, having heard of the urgent need of Ms. Yik Siu Ling for surgery, instructed [Cabinet Secretary Rene] Almendras to turn over to HKSAR Government an additional token of solidarity to defray the cost of imminent surgeries," a joint statement by the Philippines and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region stated and was posted on Facebook page of the Department of Foreign Affairs.
The woman is among those who survived the August 2010 siege that also killed eight other Hong Kong tourists. A lone gunman identified as Rolando Mendoza took the bus passengers hostage in Luneta.
The statement said that the token was "made available through donations from Filipino businessmen as a manifestation of the Filipinos' humane consideration of the plight of the victims and their families, without prejudice to the ongoing ministerial level discussions to address the four demands".

Hong Kong cancels visa-free travel for Filipinos over bus hostage fiasco, more sanctions eyed
By: InterAksyon.com | Agence France-Presse January 29, 2014 6:50 PM
MANILA – (UPDATE2 - 7:36 p.m.) The Hong Kong government has imposed long-threatened sanctions on the Philippines over its alleged failure to resolve to Hong Kong’s satisfaction the August 2010 bus hostage crisis that ended with the death of eight HK tourists at Rizal Park in Manila, a HK-headquartered daily reported, quoting government announcements.
The South China Morning Post said in a report that “Hong Kong will cancel visa-free arrangements for Philippine officials and diplomatic passport holders in the first phase of sanctions against the country in light of the Manila bus hostage crisis.”.
HK Chief Executive Leung Chun-Ying was also quoted saying the HK government received an unspecified “negative message” from the Philippine government on Monday, and that “the discussion between the two governments on Tuesday bore no fruit.”
The current visa-free arrangement for visiting Filipino diplomats and officials will be suspended from February 5, Leung Chun-ying told a press conference.
Currently they are able to stay 14 days without a visa.
Leung described the move as the "first phase of sanctions" and said the government may take more action if it thinks it could be "effective" in securing an apology over the 2010 hostage taking.

the big chunk of Hongkong economy is based on Tourism... If this is the case, we should not be affected by this sanction. They are at a loosing end not ours...unless there's just a mere percentage of Filipinos visiting Hongkong that added to their economy.

VP Binay to Hong Kong: Spare OFWs from visa sanction (ptvnews.ph)
- Quote:
-
Binay, Presidential Adviser on OFW concerns, noted that it would be an added burden to Filipino migrant workers should Hong Kong also cancel their visa-free entry to the territory.
“It will definitely hurt our OFWs financially because they will need to pay for the visa. The payment will be deducted from the money they should be sending their families,” he said. <snipped> Binay supported the statement of President Benigno Aquino III that there is no need to issue a formal apology.
“The President said the incident was a local, not a national issue. Hence, it is not necessary for the Philippine government to apologize,” he stressed. (PNA).

- Quote:
-
"I recommend that we first appeal such visa policy. If despite such appeal HK will not budge, then it is but fair that we also require visa for HK diplomatic and government passport holders by principle of reciprocity," Batocab, kasapi ng House committee on Foreign Affairs.
"Based on information gathered, ordinary Filipino travellers are not affected by the visa requirement and the imposition is only with Philippine executives. Even so, an apology to the family of the victims will not make us less of a nation," ani Tugna.
"I hope our Foreign Affairs Department reconsiders its previous position. An apology will even make us six feet taller in the eyes of the international community," dagdag ng kongresista.
"Let our DFA handle it. In the meantime, if the VIPs must go to HK, let them comply," payo ni Belmonte.

Cancellation of Pinoy visa-free travel to HK takes effect today; PNoy maintains no apology stand
(UPDATED - 3:35 p.m.) MANILA, Philippines - As Hong Kong's cancellation of visa-free entry to the territory for Fiiipinos holding official and diplomatic passports takes effect today, February 5, President Benigno Aquino III reiterated the Philippines' stand of not apologizing to Hong Kong over the death of its citizens.
In an interview with the New York Times published Wednesday, Aquino was quoted as saying that he had no plans to seek apology for the death of eight Hong Kong tourists in a hostage-taking incident in Manila in 2010, saying an apology could create legal liability.
“In his first public response to the sanctions, Mr. Aquino said he had no plans to apologize, saying that doing so could create a legal liability and noting that China had not paid compensation to the families of Filipinos who have died in episodes there,” the New York Times reported in an article written by Keith Bradsher.
In an interview aired over state-run Radyo ng Bayan on Wednesday, Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma explained what Aquino meant when he was quoted as saying that Filipinos also “died in episodes” in China.
"The President cited two parallel incidents – one, a Filipina doctor from Cavite who was killed by a wayward vehicle; and the father and daughter who were killed by a knife-wielding man, both in Tiananmen Square," said Coloma.
"There was no apology, no government liability acknowledged for these episodes," Coloma added.
China is supporting Hong Kong's sanction against the Philippines, which according to Hong Kong Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying is just the “first phase of sanctions” over the Philippines’ unwillingness to seek apology for the August 23, 2010 Rizal Park hostage-taking incident.
Hua Zhang, deputy chief of the political section and spokesman of the Chinese embassy in Manila, said the death of Hong Kong tourists in the hostage-taking incident “affects the feelings of the Chinese, including Hong Kong compatriots.”
“The Central Government supports the efforts made by the Hong Kong SAR (Special Administrative Region) government for the proper settlement of the follow-up matters,” he added.
