Our media lacks investigative reporting and pretty much just "quote reporting" w/o knowing if it even makes sense or not.

That's quite true. Sadly more often than not. A recent example would be that report about MRE's sold at "Cash and Carry" - then immediately assuming that they were diverted from Typhoon Haiyan relief efforts.

Even I knew that MRE's / C-rations have been sold there for ages.

Hong, icefrog, we could not blame the media; the purpose of media agencies is to sell their stories, and accuracy is just a bonus.

Meanwhile, being :btt: , I wonder if this base could accommodate submarines, media reports notwithstanding?

Of course we can blame them. Just like any physician or surgeon... It is their moral duty to do what is right, for it is what is expected of them.

If you truly believe that you couldn't blame them, then I say you are being screwed many times over if you reside your fate to this belief.

Akbayan, Bayan, Bayan Muna, Pamalakaya, Gabriela, etc....THEY ARE ALL ON THE SAME PAGE... to criticize government initiatives and works(particularly if GI's are involved). That is what they are. And who pays them? Well, we as tax payers!!! Just imagine how many congressmen/senators they have in the Legislative Branch of the Govt!

I am an activist myself during my early years but never i fought a government that is doing the right thing! They need to fight if gov't is doing wrong, that is a REAL ACTIVIST. They are all the same as NPAs, only they don't have arms to fight with. They have good media relations for them to be heard. How much do they pay the media? Well, better ask them.
Exclude akbayan from your allegations. The latter 3 are legal fronts of NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC Movements ( means they are the legal front of the NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC FRONT) we usually call them the "white fronts" while their armed sister movement is the NPA that we usually call the red front.

On the other hand, AKBAYAN is a SOCIAL DEMOCRATIC movement, with its roots that can be traced from anti- marcos movements in 1986, AKBAYAN was then known as BISIG. MOreover, AKBAYAN follows it socialists ideologies from the democratic-socialist form of government of SWEDEN, SPAIN, & GERMANY. while those 3 were embracing the marxist-leninist-mao zedong thought or in short communist/ totalitarian ideology.

Bayan is short for BAGONG ALYANSANG MAKABAYAN, an umbrella organization of the BAYAD MUNA ( their party - list political party standing as multi sectoral party) gabriela - their women's party, kabataan - their youth party, Suara bangsa moro- their moro party, KATRIBU - their IP party, ACT - teacher's party. PAMALAKAYA - fisherfolks party, KMP OR KILUSANG MAGBUBUKID NG PILIPINAS - farmers party, and KMU as workers party, ARMAS OR ARTISTA AT MANGGAGAWA NG SINING - artist party. All of those are under the BAYAN that follows MLMZT brand of socialism. While AKBAYAN is alone in its fight for social democracy in congress, it aims to form alliance with PDP - laban of nene pimentel and with PDSP (philippine democratic socialist party) of former NSA adviser and DND secretary Norberto Gonzales.

Let us not forget that AKBAYAN fights for the SPRATLYS AND SCARBOROUGH AND EVEN FOR SABAH. Cong. Walden Bello of AKBAYAN IS THE FIRST CONGRESSMAN TO ARRIVE IN PAG-ASA ISLAND. AKBAYAN widely supports AFP MODERNIZATION PROGRAM. Morever, AKBAYAN and PDSP were partners of the AFP in its OPLAN BANTAY LAYA II but were politicized and set aside by the aquino administration. The oplan bantay laya II aims to defeat communist terrorist in 3 years time.

Hope this will enlighten you and the other posters in this forum.

If they have to build a base at Oyster Bay, why not include an airstrip that will be long enough to accommodate our C-130's or even aircraft as big as the A320 or 777? In fact, it can double as a civilian airport to serve the civilians there.

Its near in the city airport. With our meager budget, its not practical at this time to build another airport in puerto princesa city. The port in the downtown of puerto princesa city will give our ships additional 6-hours sailing time to reach balabac straight in southern palawan before it can turn and make its course to the KIG, having a base in ulugan bay will greatly reduce the sailing time of our ships going to KIG since as get out of the bay, you can sail directly to it.

I can't find the link but I know there is a heli pad (for obvious reasons), a ramp and a couple of pier terminals being built but not a strip.
